Dec 22, 2008I was planning on installing Win7 on it and using Parallels for the times I have no Mac option (specific games or apps).
Should I install it as a boot camp partition and then link it in Parallels or just do a clean VM install in Parallels? I'm curious as to what the experiences are and what is my best course of action when my machine shows up.

Windows On Mac :: Installing 7 In Parallels?
Mar 24, 2010I have Windows XP and Vista loaded on my Macbook using Parallels.
Both run fine without any issues.
I loaded Windows 7 and it too runs fine except it won't pickup and recognize the Mac's network adapters. I cannot connect wirelessly to the Internet with Windows 7.
Both Win XP and Vista connect wireless - no problem.
In the Windows 7 install I get a code 10 error. I have tried getting the network adapter drivers from the Mac by install DVDs and "Computer" (right clicking on network adapter and installing Broadcom adapter.
Anyone else experiencing this problem. I have checked out Parallels and they have nothing on it yet. I have submitted a ticket of complaint to Parallels today to see what they say...
Windows On Mac :: Installing A Printer In Parallels?
Nov 3, 2007I am having a problem installing a printer on XP within parallels. I am using the bonjour setup wizard to install the printer. When I use the setup, I am able to see the printer and go through the necessary steps to set it up. When I choose to finish the install windows tells me I don't have permission to install the printer.
How do I change the permissions so I can install the printer?

Apr 5, 2008Has anyone successfully installed WindowsXP within Parallels on their MBA? I created an ISO of the WindowsXP CD-ROM, put it on a flash drive, and tried to install it, but Parallels is telling me that the boots from the various drives failed. I've read all of the documentation on the Parallels website and it should be working to install using the ISO.

I then installed Parallels, and instead of installing an OS from a CD (I have Win7 fresh install CD), I decided to instead install Windows XP onto my VM from Bootcamp since my specs aren't as fast and I heard Win7 may lag a bit more than XP.
My question is, in the future if I want to install Win7, what would happen in these 2 scenarios:
1. I install Win7 onto my bootcamp partition (would my parallels copy of windows become corrupt/unusable?)
2. I install Win7 onto VM via Parallels

Dec 28, 2009I have a MacBook, 2Gig memory, 2.18 mhz, running leopard. My best Bible software has to be windows (Logos) Mac version is no where near its potential here, everything PC has crashed in last 8 months. I pulled out o;d Parallels 3 and a whole bunch of old software, getting ready to get to migrate to Win 7.
I have ordered Snow Leopard.
I have ordered Parallels for Mac ver 4 (OLD VER ?)
Getting free upgrade to Parallels 5
Will probably get an OEM version of Win 7 Ultimate.
1- Can I just install the upgrade to parallels 5
2- if I have to install parallels 4, all I have is XP.
3- My Logos Bible software will 'Sing' on Win 7 need to get there
4- Do not want to reinstall XP as Win 7 has to gut it.
I would rather just not do any of this and wait for my first SS check! But I have to and do not know what to do first. It would seem Snow Leopard but I do not want to do Parallels 4 then parallels 5 if I do not have to. I am canning all my PC stuff and love the intuitiveness of all Apple stuff including software.

Jun 2, 2010New to macs here actually new to apple also. I had a few questions regarding installing windows 7 on my late 2009 macbook pro 15". What is the difference in bootcamp and parallels is it? Does one run like a virtual windows in the background while bootcamp let's you boot in either osx or windows? I have a xps desktop from Dell that has windows vista pre installed. Now I bought a copy of windows 7 when it was released fro newegg. Now I assume I cannot use that disc and serial, is that correct? Since I use it on my xps desktop? I would need to purchase another copy of windows correct? With that said, which version do I purchase? 32 or 64 bit? My Macbook pro is pretty much already setup (apps, pics, music, etc) can i still install windows 7 or will it format my HD and i would need to then reinstall everything on the Mac side? What are the "major" cons to installing windows 7 on a mbp? So far I have gathered battery life being the biggest con, any others?

Sep 15, 2009I just purchased a new iMac (2.66 c2d & 4gb of ram), Parallels 4, and Windows XP. I would like to get great performance whenever I use Windows XP and would like to know which installation procedure would help accomplish that.
Would Parallels provide me with a better user experience by installing Windows directly via Parallels OR by having Parallels utilizing a Boot Camp Partition? Which is better and why? Also, how much memory should I allocate to Parallels/Windows XP?
Windows On Mac :: Installing Parallels Tools While In Boot Camp Windows 7
Mar 2, 2009I am trying to set up a Parallels 4 VM for a Windows 7 x64 Build 7000 boot camp partition, but parallels tools will not install. Half way through the process, a windows unsigned driver security box pops up, and when I tell it to install anyway, it still rolls back the installation process and I get the message "An error has occured while installing parallels tools, click OK to restart your computer and try again." or something to that effect. I have tried this about 15 times, and I have tried uninstalling/deleting the VM and re-creating the VM to no avail.
What I want to know: Is there a way to manually install Parallels Tools while running in the boot camp partition, just like installing any other application? I want to install it outside of Parallels, since for some reason it keeps screwing itself up when trying to set up the drivers as a VM.

Feb 22, 2010I have a 15" MBP. Hardware in my sig.
I'm getting Win7 this week. I'm getting it free from school and unsure at this point whether it will be 32 or 64 bit. That said, here's what I want to do with my setup.
1: School. I have to use Office 2007 for my classes. Office 2008 for Mac is not supported, because some of the formulas that you create in 2008 won't convert correctly into 2007 format and I can't have that. I will also use IE due to the fact that neither Firefox nor Safari will play my Mediasite classes correctly in Silverlight. Only IE allows me to speed up the playback. I am going to use Parallels 5 for this.
2: I game, but not much. The one game I love and will definitely put on my Mac is Morrowind. I want to use Boot Camp for this reason.
Soooo, I have been told that if I'm going to install Windows under Boot Camp that I should do that install first. Then install Parallels. I'm really not sure how to do any of this. I understand that I will only need to install Windows a single time and that it should work under with Boot Camp or Parallels.
i have the Boot Camp install PDF from the Apple site, but I'd love some tips, tricks, help, advice, words of wisdom, etc., from this forum. Please tell me what you think about which to install first, what approach to take, how much HDD space I should partition when I install under Boot Camp, etc.

OS X :: Unable To Uninstall Parallels / Certain File Types Still Associated With Parallels
Aug 28, 2009i'm abit ocd with stuff on my computer, so stuff like this really bothers me. i had parallels one my computer for a little while whilst i needed windows. now i don't i got rid of the partition and uninstalled parallels. but, .exe files and some other files still show the parallels logo, as if it wants to open them in parallels.
is there any way i can change this? i've removed everything i can think of in preferences, application support, startup items, receipts, etc to do with parallels but to no avail.

Aug 29, 2009I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.

I shut down Parallels before running the update, and I even did a reboot of the computer.And yet every time I run the update program it keeps telling me to "shut down these running and suspended virtual machines" and refers to "My Boot Camp"Like I said, I rebooted the computer first. Jan 27, 2010A recently acquired hard drive - a basically new drive - appears to have been causing my mbp to shut down randomly (different drive and the problem goes away). I ran a surface scan on it using tech tool pro 5 and found just one bad sector on the drive.
I zeroed the drive using the binary 0000 pattern option in tech tool (1 pass) and ran the surface scan again and this time the surface scan gets the all clear. Should I be worried about the drive? Is it likely to cause the same shut downs on my mbp? I know the only way to know for sure is to try it, but I tell ya, installing a hard drive on the mbp is time consuming!!

Jan 15, 2009I recently bought an ipod touch (32G) and began the installation process on my Mac Pro (8 core 1st release). Upon hooking up the ipod, the OS (Tiger) told me that I needed to update to 10.4.11 (as well as itunes), since I was currently running 10.4.9. I proceeded to download the update, and the installation began once it had downloaded. Here is where the problems began. What I failed to notice was that I had less than 300 MB of space left on my hard drive. The installation got to a point where it couldnt go any further when I realized what the problem was.
I tried adding things to the trash to free up space, however, when I tried to dump the trash, it crashed Finder and restarted it, never allowing it to empty the trash. Hence, I was halfway through the installation, and my 8-Core was STUCK. After several hours of it doing NOTHING, I had to force quit the installation, and reboot the system. Needless to say, the Mac was pissed. I repeatedly go the kernal panic, without fail. (That made me PANIC too but I tried to remain calm as I had a lot of work on the main drive that was irreplaceable!) I ordered up a new SATA drive, and upon arrival, I hooked up my older Powerbook G4 to the Mac Pro via firewire and booted up the Mac Pro so that the Powerbook recognized all of the drives. Thankfully I still had all the data there, so I made a copy using Carbon Copy Clone to an external USB bare drive, in case something else happened.
After the cloning was completed, I ejected the clone drive, and using disk utility, I erased the OS drive in the Mac Pro, got my Tiger install disc, and rebooted the Mac Pro to do a fresh install. But the Mac Pro just flashed the file with a question mark on the screen. The SuperDrive was spinning away, but it never engages the install process. So I put the Mac Pro back into firewire mode to see if the disc was there. This time I hooked it up to a G4 tower via firewire, and it recognized the original OS drive (now bare), the two additional drives in the Mac Pro, as well as the Tiger install disc.
So I though, maybe I can try installing it from my G4 via firewire. NOPE! Not an option! So I ejected everything and tried to boot the Mac Pro to the install disc again, both by just starting it up and also by holding down the C key to try to engage the install disc, but NO LUCK. I am so frustrated and cannot figure out a solution! Does anyone have any ideas of what I could try? I have some pretty time sensitive work that needs to get done, and the deadlines are looming quick. I would hate to think I have 8-cores of JUNK
IMac :: Fans Are Dumb, Run When Not Needed, And Don't When Do?
Nov 7, 2009Any tips on how to fix this?Usually, the CPU fan is stuck at 4500RPMs constantly, CPUs 28?? it runs the fan at 5000RPMs.But whenever the CPU is cooking, such as 92?, it won't run at all, but the other two fans will be at full blast.
Any tips on how to fix this? I took the computer to the apple store 3 times for this issue but every time they "could not recreate the issue". The last time the replaced the fans in the computer, but that didn't fix anything.Anything that would point me in the direction of fixing this? It's just melting itself. Alum. iMac.

I need to be able to record on screen activities so I can add in clips of the desktop and what not to my iMovie files. I have found a not so free program called Snapz Pro which seems to have what I need. I'm more interested in freeware of course, so are there any similar programs to this one?

Aug 28, 2010i am in very awkward situation.
i have old dell desktop (without monitor), lexmark all in one printer (which does not support Mac OS), Samsung laser printer (which also does not support Mac OS), Windows Laptop and a NEW iMac with wireless broadband router.
Question is because the old printers are not compatible with new imac, I need some solution to print and scan.
My options are:
- Connect old printers to desktop PC tower and connect PC tower to router via ethernet and use printers via sharing.
- Connect printers to windows laptop as needed but this restricts the use.
- Get rid of the two printers and desktop tower (which is not needed for anything else) and buy a new wireless all in one printer which works over both mac and windows. I can get �30 for the old desktop at local trader but nothing for printers as they are deemed worthless.
MacBook Pro :: When Dealing With Genius Nagging Sometimes Needed
Jan 14, 2011Figured I would share my recent apple genius bar apt. I went in due to a annoying line on my late 2009 15" macbook pro. Noticed it anytime that the screen was dark or dimmed. So I took in the MacBook pro and the genius look at the issue examined claimed he could not see a thing and made me feel rather stupid. Also pointed out that my mbp was making a crack sound ever since I installed my incase hard case. He sad that is too bad its the case nothing else. Funny thing is when it made the sound another genius look at the computer and said hey that's not normal. So he felt rather dumb, but continued on with his genius opinion that it was fine. He hand it back and says everything looks and works perfect sorry you wasted a trip. So I get the mbp back open it up in the apple store and go over and tell him the mark is right on the screen and he comes ever and says nope, so he calls over two more genius and they look at the screen and say yep write him up a repair order.
I smiled exactly when the guy said that from 30 seconds of observation. The other genius just walked away and ignored me after that happened. Today I went and picked up the MBP and they replaced the screen and found out they also replaced my super drive. I was not aware there was any issues with the drive at all, but they fixed it. Also my computer is under applecare if anyone was wondering. Trying this up has made me notice I need to work in sentence structure and I cant help to think how many people don't nag the genius after they get a deny from them. Its almost like a god complex they say no its a no. Repair bill came to just under 700 dollars and I was wondering if there is anymore issues with this MBP can I request a replacement system? My apple car expires in Nov.
PowerPC :: TiBook 667 MHz - Replacement CDRW Needed
May 11, 2007Fixing up my old TiBook to sell and discovered the CDRW is playing up reads some dics OK but makes a horrible crunching noise when ejecting, not good. The original drive is a Matshita CW-8121 but I can't find any for sale, what can I replace it with that's current and supported? And pref cheap on Ebay.
