I was planning on installing Win7 on it and using Parallels for the times I have no Mac option (specific games or apps).
Should I install it as a boot camp partition and then link it in Parallels or just do a clean VM install in Parallels? I'm curious as to what the experiences are and what is my best course of action when my machine shows up.
I have a Unibody Macbook and was wondering which one would be a better choice to do occasional gaming. using Bootcamp since I have tried it before and didn't like the whole restart the computer after done playing the game.
I heard crossover is great for gaming but Parallels 5 came out recently so was wondering if it has any improvements.
I have installed parallels 5 desktop onto my macbook pro and am trying to set it up to run win XP. All goes well untill it gets to the part of the windows installation that highlights "installing windows" the everything just stops, and stays stuck on "setup will take approximately: 36minutes" At the very bottom in the grey area it says: "Parallel tools are not installed, when I click to install these, nothing happens!
View 3 Replies View RelatedNew to macs here actually new to apple also. I had a few questions regarding installing windows 7 on my late 2009 macbook pro 15". What is the difference in bootcamp and parallels is it? Does one run like a virtual windows in the background while bootcamp let's you boot in either osx or windows? I have a xps desktop from Dell that has windows vista pre installed. Now I bought a copy of windows 7 when it was released fro newegg. Now I assume I cannot use that disc and serial, is that correct? Since I use it on my xps desktop? I would need to purchase another copy of windows correct? With that said, which version do I purchase? 32 or 64 bit? My Macbook pro is pretty much already setup (apps, pics, music, etc) can i still install windows 7 or will it format my HD and i would need to then reinstall everything on the Mac side? What are the "major" cons to installing windows 7 on a mbp? So far I have gathered battery life being the biggest con, any others?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm abit ocd with stuff on my computer, so stuff like this really bothers me. i had parallels one my computer for a little while whilst i needed windows. now i don't i got rid of the partition and uninstalled parallels. but, .exe files and some other files still show the parallels logo, as if it wants to open them in parallels.
is there any way i can change this? i've removed everything i can think of in preferences, application support, startup items, receipts, etc to do with parallels but to no avail.
I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.
I'm getting my Mac in a week and I would like to know it I can drag files from my Leopard desktop to my Parallels desktop. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Windows XP virtual machine is 'stuck' in suspend. All items in the 'Virtual Machine' menu are greyed out except 'Suspend' which is ticked. The VM window itself is just black, and the VM list has a spinny gear next to the virtual machine. It's been like this for days.
I've used Time Machine to restore to a previous known good VM file, but that didn't work. So I'm wondering if it's a cache file or some such.
I desperately need access to this for my work. No point asking Parallels support, they don't speak English (I discovered after paying).
I'm using my first MAC, an mini, and trying to install Parallels Desktop 4.0 for the first time. I've installed the software and I was starting to create my virtual PC, but the screen came up with a message telling me it would allocate hard drive space and I got scared and stopped the installation. I'm worried about how much hard drive space it's going to take up. I was expecting to be able to tell Parallels to use 20 gigs of my hard drive (or something like that). But the last thing I want is for it to use all of the free hard drive space and then I'm out of luck. I've always been a PC user and since this is my first MAC, I sure don't want to screw it up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I have Safari running, and then launch Windows via Parallels Desktop, everything slows to a crawl. If I quit either Safari or Parallels Desktop, everything goes back to full speed. It seems like some kind of degeneration. I had this problem a while back. I created a new user account on my Mac and started using that and voila, Safari and Parallels worked fine together again. But over time the problem has crept into my new account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to to know and make a post comparing VMware Fusion 3 and Parallels Desktop 5 with the new updates. Which one is better in running multiple OSs at the same time. Do they support hypervisor. Cause i want to create a virtual environment to learn Server 2008 and Mac Os Server. Which one would be better to use VMware Fusion 3 or Parallels Desktop 5. As I said before I want this thread to be used to compare the two programs so if anybody else has question post them more question the better, of coarse if we get answers.

I just downloaded the latest update to Parallels. I shut down Parallels before running the update, and I even did a reboot of the computer. And yet every time I run the update program it keeps telling me to "shut down these running and suspended virtual machines" and refers to "My Boot Camp"Like I said, I rebooted the computer first. There are no virtual machines running. Zero, zilch, nada. So why in the ******* is Parallels telling me that there is? "My Boot Camp" isn't even a VM that I use
View 1 Replies View RelatedParallels Desktop 5.0 was released Wednesday, with its developer claiming the latest virtualization software runs 64-bit Windows 7 22 percent faster than its nearest competitor on a MacBook Pro. Parallels said that the tests, conducted by Crimson Consulting Group, also found that the new Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac is up to 300 percent faster for virtual machine operations than its predecessor. In addition, 3Dmark 2006 Professional test scores perform up to 7 times better for 3D and graphics performance. "As the OS battles rage between Microsoft, Apple and Linux, we provide a completely customizable solution that enables people to use the applications they need with the fastest performance available, regardless of the operating system," said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels. "Parallels continues to build on its proven track record of innovation, responding to our customers by providing the fastest, smartest and most powerful Windows-on-Mac experience available."
The latest version of Parallels Desktop features more than 70 new features, including a new "Crystal view" mode, which can make Windows completely disappear. The new software also allows users to enable Apple multitouch trackpad gestures -- such as pinch, swipe, and rotate -- within Windows. Features within the new Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac include: Full support for Aero in Windows Vista and 7 through Windows WDDM driver, including Aero Flip 3D. Virtual machine size automatically optimized for best performance with Parallels Compressor. Improved performance for Linux guest OS from KVM paravirtualization. A more Mac-like experience in Windows applications through Apple trackpad gestures technology, horizontal scrolling and the application of full-screen active corners and curl page effect. Copy and paste fidelity for formatted text and complete layouts including images, even between Windows and Linux guest OSes. Freedom and flexibility to run Windows and Mac applications across multiple monitors.
Seven times better graphics performance for games and 3D applications than the previous version with Direct X 9Ex with Shader Model 3 and OpenGL 2.1 support. Superior graphics performance for Linux guests through OpenGL 2.1 support. Full hardware resources can be utilized with support for 8 virtual CPUs, 64-bit Windows and Snow Leopard Server 64-bit. Easily move PCs (including Windows 7) and third-party virtual machines to the Mac with the enhanced Parallels Transporter. Parallels is also offering users a free trial of the software, which the company has touted as faster, smarter and more powerful. The software is available now in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish, and localized versions in Chinese, Czech, Hungarian, Japanese, Polish and Russian are expected in the coming weeks. At $79.99, Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac includes $175 worth of additional software: Parallels Internet Security 2009 by Kaspersky with a one-year subscription, Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0, and Acronis True Image Home 2010.
Can VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop run operating systems other than Windows? Not that I need it or want it, I'm just curious.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am an architect and I will be mostly using my new imac to work on Autocad 2010 along with a couple of other windows based applications. I understand the concept of the three methods of using windows but I do not know which would provide the best performance whilst working on Autocad, without it becoming a laborious task to load it up everyday.
I will be rocking dual monitors so I quite like the idea of Parallels or VMWare so that I can have Windows open on one monitor and Leopard on the other. But will this have a negative effect on the performance of Autocad? Also, which of these two is the better?

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I have downloaded Parallels Desktop to my Macbook Pro, and my brother brought a CD of Windows 7 to install there. At first, in the coherence mode, the taskbar was working amazingly until I turned off my computer. When I turned it back on, Windows 7 started to run, and the taskbar started to disappear and reappear after awhile. Then I restarted Parallels, then the taskbar completely disappeared. I have tried to modify its settings, and it still didn't work. So, I changed the coherence mode to window one, the taskbar was there. And then I changed it back to coherence, it disappeared again.
What should I do to get it back in the coherence mode?

I was thinking about running parallels with XP alongside my other apps. Likely to have four users logged on and perhaps at least six apps open along with parallels running XP. Will my 4GB be enough or will the system get bogged down? Be interested to find out people experiences of using parallels and how the performance is on a 3.06Ghz imac.
