Has anyone successfully installed WindowsXP within Parallels on their MBA? I created an ISO of the WindowsXP CD-ROM, put it on a flash drive, and tried to install it, but Parallels is telling me that the boots from the various drives failed. I've read all of the documentation on the Parallels website and it should be working to install using the ISO.

I was planning on installing Win7 on it and using Parallels for the times I have no Mac option (specific games or apps).
Should I install it as a boot camp partition and then link it in Parallels or just do a clean VM install in Parallels? I'm curious as to what the experiences are and what is my best course of action when my machine shows up.
I was trying for a long time now to play old games like: Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and even newer ones like POP:Sands of Time, Hitman: Codename 47 and so on, on my iMac using Radeon HD 2600 Pro video card. All of these games aren't working well, I've tried everything, spent a lot of time trying to get appropriate drivers and make it work. I'm sure there are some of you that have/had the same issues like me, ofcourse using the same video card.

Both run fine without any issues.
I loaded Windows 7 and it too runs fine except it won't pickup and recognize the Mac's network adapters. I cannot connect wirelessly to the Internet with Windows 7.
Both Win XP and Vista connect wireless - no problem.
In the Windows 7 install I get a code 10 error. I have tried getting the network adapter drivers from the Mac by install DVDs and "Computer" (right clicking on network adapter and installing Broadcom adapter.
Anyone else experiencing this problem. I have checked out Parallels and they have nothing on it yet. I have submitted a ticket of complaint to Parallels today to see what they say...
I am having a problem installing a printer on XP within parallels. I am using the bonjour setup wizard to install the printer. When I use the setup, I am able to see the printer and go through the necessary steps to set it up. When I choose to finish the install windows tells me I don't have permission to install the printer.
How do I change the permissions so I can install the printer?
I'm currently running BootCamp with Vista, but I'm getting tired of rebooting. If I install Parallel would I have to reinstall Vista again, or can I use my current partition?

View 6 Replies View RelatedBefore I installed Parallels 5, I had a 2.4ghz 13" MBP w/ 4GB RAM that was dual-booting Windows XP. I then installed Parallels, and instead of installing an OS from a CD (I have Win7 fresh install CD), I decided to instead install Windows XP onto my VM from Bootcamp since my specs aren't as fast and I heard Win7 may lag a bit more than XP.
My question is, in the future if I want to install Win7, what would happen in these 2 scenarios:
1. I install Win7 onto my bootcamp partition (would my parallels copy of windows become corrupt/unusable?)
2. I install Win7 onto VM via Parallels
I have a MacBook, 2Gig memory, 2.18 mhz, running leopard. My best Bible software has to be windows (Logos) Mac version is no where near its potential here, everything PC has crashed in last 8 months. I would rather just not do any of this and wait for my first SS check! But I have to and do not know what to do first. Does one run like a virtual windows in the background while bootcamp let's you boot in either osx or windows? I have a xps desktop from Dell that has windows vista pre installed. Now I bought a copy of windows 7 when it was released fro newegg. Now I assume I cannot use that disc and serial, is that correct? Since I use it on my xps desktop? I would need to purchase another copy of windows correct? With that said, which version do I purchase? 32 or 64 bit? My Macbook pro is pretty much already setup (apps, pics, music, etc) can i still install windows 7 or will it format my HD and i would need to then reinstall everything on the Mac side? What are the "major" cons to installing windows 7 on a mbp? So far I have gathered battery life being the biggest con, any others?

I am trying to set up a Parallels 4 VM for a Windows 7 x64 Build 7000 boot camp partition, but parallels tools will not install. Half way through the process, a windows unsigned driver security box pops up, and when I tell it to install anyway, it still rolls back the installation process and I get the message "An error has occured while installing parallels tools, click OK to restart your computer and try again." or something to that effect. I have tried this about 15 times, and I have tried uninstalling/deleting the VM and re-creating the VM to no avail.
What I want to know: Is there a way to manually install Parallels Tools while running in the boot camp partition, just like installing any other application? I want to install it outside of Parallels, since for some reason it keeps screwing itself up when trying to set up the drivers as a VM.

I'm getting Win7 this week. I'm getting it free from school and unsure at this point whether it will be 32 or 64 bit. That said, here's what I want to do with my setup.
1: School. I have to use Office 2007 for my classes. Office 2008 for Mac is not supported, because some of the formulas that you create in 2008 won't convert correctly into 2007 format and I can't have that. I will also use IE due to the fact that neither Firefox nor Safari will play my Mediasite classes correctly in Silverlight. Only IE allows me to speed up the playback. I am going to use Parallels 5 for this.
2: I game, but not much. The one game I love and will definitely put on my Mac is Morrowind. I want to use Boot Camp for this reason.
Soooo, I have been told that if I'm going to install Windows under Boot Camp that I should do that install first. Then install Parallels. I'm really not sure how to do any of this. I understand that I will only need to install Windows a single time and that it should work under with Boot Camp or Parallels.

i'm abit ocd with stuff on my computer, so stuff like this really bothers me. i had parallels one my computer for a little while whilst i needed windows. now i don't i got rid of the partition and uninstalled parallels. but, .exe files and some other files still show the parallels logo, as if it wants to open them in parallels.
is there any way i can change this? i've removed everything i can think of in preferences, application support, startup items, receipts, etc to do with parallels but to no avail.
I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.
I just downloaded the latest update to Parallels. I shut down Parallels before running the update, and I even did a reboot of the computer.And yet every time I run the update program it keeps telling me to "shut down these running and suspended virtual machines" and refers to "My Boot Camp"Like I said, I rebooted the computer first. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.
But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.
I've got a 2,1, 2.0 GHz MB with 2GB RAM, and I'm thinking about adding more RAM. I'm just wondering why this is? If there is a virtual machine does it evade the 3GB limit, and if so, if I'm doing a lot of work in Windows on Parallels would it be worth going for the extra GB?

I've read that you get better performance if you install the virtual machine onto a separate disk. So I'm wondering is it even possible to install windows through bootcamp + parallels onto an Express Card SSD and run it off of that?
Or would I be best just installing it all onto the local disk drive using a separate partition for bootcamp? I'm new to running virtual machines so don't really know how it all works or the best route to go. I'm trying to decide between 13" macbook pro using separate partition on disk or a MBP with express card slot. Also, I'm assuming the SD Card is too slow for this?
I am merely hours away from making my first mac purchase! I have settled on the 15" 2.4 i5. This should be more than enough computing power for my needs in the next 3-4 years. However I was wondering if I will be able set up parallels 5 AND bootcamp and just choose when to use one or the other? If I am able to do this, would anyone recommend it?
My thinking is that, many of my windows programs are not very demanding(rosetta stone, ms office, etc...) and it would be more convenient to switch back and forth using parallels. Boot camp, from what I've read on a few previous threads, would be more suited for some casual gaming or more demanding tasks(engineering program/reservoir modeling program) on windows. I've been using VMWare up until now as my Hackintosh does not support intel-VTx or whatever. I think parallels looks much better, but don't know how it is with performance. So does anyone have experience using both on their machine and can recommend either one? I'm looking for best performance mostly as I run in single window and not Unity.

The compromise is that I can just add Windows to my Mac. I know that this is possible through Parallel, but am really concerned about performance issues and viruses. I have the entry level computer, not the Pro, so I'm very concerned about this proposition. I'm hoping to fight them on this issue, so I'm really looking for your adding Windows to an entry level Mac horror stories.

Or if I already have it on bootcamp, I have to install it all over again with Parallels? And I was thinking of only having RC as my secondary OS until my Windows 7 disc comes. When that happens, do I just delete all my RC stuff from bootcamp to make room for Windows 7? I'd also lose all my documents and whatnot right since I can't upgrade to Windows 7 from an RC.
