When downloading gzip files (.gz) with Safari 4.04, the files automatically get unzipped. This makes it impossible to verify file integrity with MD5. This automatic unzipping does not happen when downloading files with Firefox. How do I disable this feature with Safari and unzip after MD5 verification?

OS X Leopard :: How To Stop Attachments Compressed Automatically
We have Microsoft Office for a Mac, which we need for interaction with all of our corporate clients. Proposed solutions that involve not using Entourage will not help me. When I try to send a document in Entrourage with attachments, Stuffit (a program that apparently comes with Entourage) automatically compresses the attachments. It adds a .sit to the file name. The problem is that recipients cannot open the compressed files and I do not want to try to educate the rest of the world on how to use Stuffit.

It does not seem to matter how large the files are (or are not) nor now many files are being attached. I went to Entourage settings (Preferences | Mails and News Settings | Compose) and set it for do not compress as well as "encode for any computer." Yet Stuffit keeps on compressing attachments. I need to stop having attachments automatically compressed. Anyone know how to do this without completely uninstalling Stuffit? (I can find any option for just turning it on or off, or disabling it, etc.) Life on a Mac just isn't supposed to be this complicated.

My mac recognizes it as bonjour printer and everything is ok. I can even see the status of the printer (i.e. ink levels, paper, etc of the printer). When I send a file to print, it automatically stops it. Why is this?

OS X :: Stop ITunes From Adding Songs Automatically?
I've been trying to figure out how to sort this for ages now, and I just can't get to the bottom of it to save my life. This is the situation. I've just downloaded an album, and it ended up in my Downloads folder, so I moved it to the desktop, then played one of the songs in the album. s soon as I played the song, it opened up in iTunes and then automatically added the song to the music library. I don't want it to do that, I've spent the last couple of hours sorting out my library, adding album artwork, name changes etc and the last thing I need is things getting automatically added to the music library and cluttering and messing things up.

Safari :: Stop From Opening 99 Tabs Automatically
When I first start up Safari - it automatically opens a huge number of tabs (the drop down menu on a tab right click shows an option to bookmark 99 tabs - and there are more tabs opened than I care to count). They appear to all be existing bookmarks; but could also be history.

At one point it would not let me close it at all & because it wouldn't close the OS would not allow a shutdown. So I had to do a hardware power off instead.

I played around with the setting and finnally - after severl hard reboots and a lot of try this & try that - I got it to allow itself to be closed.

But the 99+/- auto opens continue to be a problem.  I've tried to completely clear my history, and several other property adjustments - but overall the behaviour remains very very flakely.

I want to make it my default browser on all my Apple things (Macbook / iTouch / iPad) but the very bad behaviour keeps pushing me back to Firefox - sigh. It feels like a very bad user design that cannot be trusted.

Are there some obvious know gotcha's with this browser? Or some standard settings that should never be touched? Or are these common bugs that just don't work right?

OS X Leopard :: How To Stop Mail Automatically Zipping Attachments
Is there a way to stop Mail automatically zipping attachments.

We send attachments to clients and some (inexperienced users) have real trouble with unzipping.

Is there a way to prevent Mail from auto zipping attachments? We need this sort of "retro" functionality urgently.

Also, if anyone knows how to get rid of the annoying pop-up warning every time you go to open an attachment - that would be great !

Beginning to worry that Leopard is taking on Vista-like rubbish features.

Snow Leopard :: Stop Application From Starting Automatically?
I recently configured a backup utility to auto-start at 2am ET, from within the application's settings.

Unfortunately, when I changed the time to start at a different time, it didn't work. My computer still autostarts the app at 2am.

I've sent an email to the developers, but in the meantime, does anyone know a terminal command or 3rd party application that will let me view the auto-start times of different applications, and configure them?

OS X Leopard :: Can't Stop Applications From Opening Automatically At Login
A few months ago I tried the "open at login" feature for 4 of the applications in my dock. I have decided it is more of a hassle than it's worth and unchecked "open at login." That didn't stop them from opening automatically. I went into Accounts and made sure the "Login Items" tab was empty. That also didn't work. I even added the programs into the tab, restarted and deleted them. I searched the Apple website and read that you can bypass applications launching automatically by holding shift at the blue screen on startup and then again after typing the password. I set the computer to not login automatically and hold shift every time I start the computer up. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. Is there a way to stop them from opening without having to log in every time?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Get Imac To Stop Automatically Searching For Updates

Furthermore, once it's checked for updates I cannot dismiss the ones I do not need or want. It constantly asks me to install the updates even though I would have no use for them.

Apple wants cash to solve the problem. Since it began occurring  after my last paid OS update, that's BS.
