View 3 RepliesMy brand new Macbook Pro's screen keeps dimming the screen all the time regardless of which setting is it on. Its the first time it does that today and it's so annoying!I have the following options: Put the hard disks to sleep when possible, slightly dim the display when using this power source, automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep and restart automatically if the computer freezes. The only thing that is check marked is Put the hard disks to sleep when possible and automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep...

My computer has recently started auto dimming when in darker rooms of the house, i know its an issue with the light sensor because I've held a flashlight to it and it instantly brightens, however, i have unchecked the "automatically adjust brightness" box in the system settings and it continues to dim it's self even when unchecked and brightness is on full. It isn't the result of any recent updates, as there haven't been any in some time and it's only started in the last two weeks.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a brain fart, but since I've installed 10.6, if I don't touch my mouse for 1 minute or so, the screen dims. It didn't use to do this before, and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to fix it. My cord is plugged in, and under energy settings I can't see anything related to this...how do I fix this? Is it acting as though I am running off of battery power, and dimming after a minute. I even changed the settings to NOT dim, even on battery power. On another topic, this update actually cost Apple money, because I was planning on buying a new MacBook Pro, but I zeroed out the hard drive and did a clean install, and my old Mac is so fast now, it is as if I DO have a new MacBook!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI reset my PRAM yesterday to fix some issues with videos being choppy. It has helped somewhat in that regard, but I've noticed a new issue with my display becoming dimmed. I have my screen saver set to kick on after 5 minutes of inactivity. My display is set to turn off after 15 mins. My display is dimming, however, after 2 minutes of inactivity? It's very frustrating, and is actually causing me headaches because of the differences in brightness.

I have a MacPro and a Macbook. Recently I used the sharing function to play a game with my friend where I connected the two computers to a shared folder. I also installed Hamachi and used that for creating a VPN-network. Now I have erased the shared folder, uninstalled Hamachi and disabled the sharing function, but my MacPro still automatically tries to connect to my Macbook. The message is as following "There was a problem connecting to the server "MickiMacbook". "The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP adresss, check your network connection, and then try again". Â
I don't really understand why it keeps doing this as I've deleted all of the previously used programs. I've also deleted all of the files in /Library/PDF Services: but that did not work.
When I click to open safari on my new MacBook Pro it opens multiple windows at once. How can I stop this?

I have a recurring problem where my screen (built in or external monitor/projector) will just go blank at random times. It is an unrecoverable situation and I have to do a hard power reset to get working again.
After testing several theories without success I struck upon one that showed promise. The blanking tended to occur when I was in Lion Fullscreen mode, or using a gesture to start expose - so I figured maybe it was a graphics switching issue.
So I went into System Preferences and disabled 'Automatic graphics switching'. I then ran trouble free for several days (I was typically crashing 1-2 times a day)
Then several days later it happened again and I thought I was back to square one. However, a colleague suggested I check the graphic switching setting to see if something had changed it back, and sure enough it was re-enabled.
Now I find myself in a constant battle with the system to keep disabling the 'Automatic graphics switrhing' in System Preferences.
I have tried setting it and locking it, but sooner or later it reverts. I need to know if it is possible to force it to stay disabled.

I've been trying to figure out how to sort this for ages now, and I just can't get to the bottom of it to save my life. This is the situation. I've just downloaded an album, and it ended up in my Downloads folder, so I moved it to the desktop, then played one of the songs in the album. s soon as I played the song, it opened up in iTunes and then automatically added the song to the music library. I don't want it to do that, I've spent the last couple of hours sorting out my library, adding album artwork, name changes etc and the last thing I need is things getting automatically added to the music library and cluttering and messing things up.

I'm currently connected to shared internet which does not require me to enter a password.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I first start up Safari - it automatically opens a huge number of tabs (the drop down menu on a tab right click shows an option to bookmark 99 tabs - and there are more tabs opened than I care to count). They appear to all be existing bookmarks; but could also be history.
At one point it would not let me close it at all & because it wouldn't close the OS would not allow a shutdown. So I had to do a hardware power off instead.
I played around with the setting and finnally - after severl hard reboots and a lot of try this & try that - I got it to allow itself to be closed.Â
But the 99+/- auto opens continue to be a problem. I've tried to completely clear my history, and several other property adjustments - but overall the behaviour remains very very flakely.Â
I want to make it my default browser on all my Apple things (Macbook / iTouch / iPad) but the very bad behaviour keeps pushing me back to Firefox - sigh. It feels like a very bad user design that cannot be trusted.Â
Are there some obvious know gotcha's with this browser? Or some standard settings that should never be touched? Or are these common bugs that just don't work right?

I am a new Mac user (had my macbook for 2 weeks, loving it, but still learning how to use it). I am really annoyed by Preview app. Anytime I save a photo in my Download folder, it automatically opens it with Preview, whether I want it or not. When I quit Preview, it still opens the next time I download a photo. I can't find anywhere in Preview options such option to disconnect automatic opening of photos. How do I turn it off please?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot get my imac to stop automatically searching for updates. I set preferences to monthly, or turn it off - it doesn't matter I cannot change it from checking for updates constantly. Furthermore, once it's checked for updates I cannot dismiss the ones I do not need or want. It constantly asks me to install the updates even though I would have no use for them.
Apple wants cash to solve the problem. Since it began occurring after my last paid OS update, that's BS.

Parental control is active, but no restrictions on which applications they can use; just website restrictions and time limits.Allowed them to modify the dock. Each time they log in various applications automatically start and removing them from the startup list does not seem to solve the problem, and one is not even on the list. The "re-open windows" check box is NOT selected when they log out and I watched them quit the applications before logging out.
Example: for one account iTunes Helper always shows up on the startup list... I try to remove it in their account and it just pops back up... this appears to cause iTunes to autostart each time the log in... annoying.
Example: same account, the System Preferences always start up... fortunately it is locked so the kid can modify anything. But again, annoying.
