My OSX got crashed after a update with error. So I re-install Leopard, all the old files put in the "Previous system" folder, then upgraded to snow leopard, got it all updated. I found that all my old mail are gone. I was using hotmail and run it in Mail. So all the old mail has been downloaded to Mail before, and I can not find it in hotmail site again. is there any way I can get back my old mail from the Previous System folder?

I've been obliged to reinstall ALL my data.On a brand new hard drive, I did a clean DVD install of 10.6.5, and then a clean Software Update install of 10.6.8, in my MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4 MB of RAM.I have NOT been able to rely upon my Time Machine backups (long story).Instead, I've been obliged to do a raw copy of all my data from an external hard drive.Everything seems to be back where it was except Mail 4.5.Mail launches fine, it can see all my accounts, it can pull down new mail, and I can see all my Mail folders, as evidenced by this screen grab:The problem is that ALL my Mail folders (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, Junk, etc) appear to be empty.Â
So, for example, the Mail folder called 'Newspapers' shows that it has 20,418 unread messages within it.However, when I click on the 'Newspapers' folder, I can't see ANY messages, either read or unread.Instead, I just get a blank white screen.All my Mail accounts are running on standard POP configs. No IMAP complexities, or anything like that. I've installed EXACT copies of these three folders, all of which worked fine before I was forced to reinstall all my data:

We're using Mail 2.1.3 on a Mac Mini (OS 10.4.11), and having problems with email accounts misbehaving in Mail.We've been checking 6 accounts (2 gmail, 1 yahoo, 3 from US Cable). Now I've tried to add 2 new gmail accounts (we're losing the USCable accounts in a few days), and started having problems. Even though the settings in both new gmail accounts are correct, they will not send email via the smtp.gmail.com server, and give me the message:
"Cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com" and it asks me to send the message using a different server.
Additionally, as I've been trying to troubleshoot this, my 2 formerly working gmail accounts have both started not working. Connection Doctor says the login for one failed, and the smtp for the other "could not connect". Though Connection Doctor says that connection and login to server succeeded for the 2 new gmail accounts, it does not even list the smtp attempts for the new accounts. I've tried deleting and recreating the new email accounts within this main user's version of Mail several times, no success.
All the email accounts are using the POP protocol, and we don't want to change to IMAP (we have multiple users checking the same accounts from different devices). I've verified the settings being correct 2 ways: Setting them up on a different machine (my MacBook running Mail 3.6, OS X 10.5.8) and on the same machine via a newly-made user on the Mac Mini. Both ways can send and receive mail just fine from these new email accounts.
I think something's hopelessly corrupted, and that I need to somehow reinstall the Mail program, or at least get rid of all the accounts and preferences or whatever needs to be deleted, and recreate all the email accounts again. How can I do this, without losing our many messages that we have filed in a number of folders?

I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.
It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.
Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.
For the last week I find that after sending an email with attachments that it remains in my draft box after sending. The mail shows up in the sent box, but it never get's deleted from the draft box until I resend it. This is happening on both my MBP and iMac. Both machines connect to iCloud for mail.

I am running Lion (latest ver) on my iMac (2011, i7), and have icloud set up to sync mail (and other stuff) with my iPhone 4. My iCloud account Sent Mail and Drafts are being syncronized between the cloud the iPhone, but not the iMac. So for example, I see 2 items in my Drafts folder when I log into icloud.com, and I see them in the drafts folder on iPhone mail, but they do not appear in the drafts folder for my iCloud account on Mail.app on the iMac. Also, I don't see emails I sent from icloud.com on my Mac's mail. I have iCloud enabled on the mac, and mail syncing is specifically turned on. Â

Hi, I have a major problem. Windows XP was started to be installed on a new imac not using boot camp, this was a school teacher. The xp cd got stuck in the dvd drive. I had to pull the computer apart and remove the cd manually. Now I need to reinstall 10.5 whatever I do I cannot get it to boot from the mac cd.

I would like to make a fresh and clean install of Snow Leopard. I have a MacBook Pro Late 2008 and it came with 10.6. I did upgrade to 10.6 last year when it came out but now I would like to wipe everything off it, format it and reinstall 10.6 so it looks brand new. How do I do that? Do I need to install 10.5 first and then 10.6 or can I directly install 10.6? And what application do I need to load?

i have snow leopard and had some issues with safari. I uninstalled it and now i can't find where to download it from. The link on the apple website is for either tiger of leopard. I downloaded the leopard one, but it will not install on my computer because it is 10.6.1 instead of 10.5.8 or later. I have looked around, but can't find where to download it.

For starters, note the weird graphics on the dock in the attachment. Secondly, my mac doesn't always shut down, it sometimes stalls on the blue screen with the spiral thingy and other times it just stalls on a blank desktop. Then I get other strange, irregular problems from time to time, I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or if I should just start again. I have a RevA MBA, running Snow Leopard.

It started to install 10.5 but part way through the install, it froze at a time. I let it sit for about an hour. No change. Trying to click any of the menu icons at the top resulted in beach balling. I then, after reading advice, hard shut off the machine and rebooted to retry the install. Now, I just get a folder with a question mark and, when pressing "c" to have it boot from disk, it reads it, then ejects it. I need help to fix the problem. This is on a Macbook Pro Late 2007 edition.

When I attempted to turn it back on I was stuck on the Startup Screen with the Apple and have not been able to get past that for several days. I had tried every solution I could look up without the use of the Mac OS X CD , which was not available to me at the time. I finally have the CD and first I tired to run disk utility on my HD (Hitachi HTS545032B9SA02 Media). Under First Aid I have no options present, not Repair Disk, nor Verify Disk, and not even Verify Disk Permissions or Repair Disk Permissions. At a loss there I attempted to reinstall Mac OS X. When I attempt that, I am brought to "Select Destination". The "Examining Available Disks" process runs but finds no options for me to reinstall Mac OS X. Again at a loss I attempt to erase the hard drive, as nothing drastically important is on the Hard Drive, when I attempt to do so. After about one second I get this message "Disk Erase failed with the error: Operation timed out". So... now. I'm completely at a loss. Is there any advice anyone can give me before I bring this to an Apple Store or is it completely hopeless. The version of OS X I have is 10.6. If any other information is needed for you to solve this problem I'll get it to you.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy MBP (early 2008) seems to have a corrupted SMC.Operations that i think are managed by the SMC like booting and sleeping are having big issues:Â First, to boot OSX needs about 10 minutes.After presing the power-buton the chime sounds and the apple logo appears. OSX starts loading.
Then it suddenly stops and a blue screen appears. This blue screen stays there for several minutes. Then i can hear a little sound from the hard disc  and the desktop appears as always and i can use OSX without any problems. Second, to get the MBP to sleep isnt working at all. Closing the MBP leads to a black screen, while the fans etc are still working. There is no way to wake it up again, so i have to do a force shut down. Â
I already formated the hard disc and reinstalled OSX 10.6 twice, but the problem still occurs.And I already tried to reset the SMC (pressing 5sec power button etc) and tried to clean the PRAM. I have no clue if the resets were actually done. I didnt have to enter passwords etc again like i was expecting to do after a PRAM-Reset. Is there a way to reinstall the SMC? I tried to but i got the message "Firmware is already up to date. No update necessary."Â

Safari 5.1.3 is a disaster. Ever since I upgraded a week ago I have had nothing but heartache, with multiple issues cropping up, all of them seemingling unfixable. As it turns out I have a backup of my system that has my previous, non-heartache version of Safari 5.1.2. My question is simple: Now that I've "upgraded" to Lion 10.7.3 and Safari 5.1.3, can I simply overwrite Safari 5.1.3 with the previous 5.1.2 version and get on with my life? Or will various changes throughout the system cause me more misery? Otherwise, I may just roll my whole system back to last week's backup and get on with my life.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently installed an AT&T 2Wire modem (both wireless and ethernet). It setup OK and the wireless network works perfectly with my wife's iPod Touch. For years I've also had and Airport Express with Airtunes that I use to send iTunes to my stereo. I opened up the Airport Network configure panel and tried to add the Airport network to the 2Wire network. After several minutes, I got a response that said it could not join the network. After that, my Airport network disappeared. It does not show up in the Airport Utility and it doesn't show up anywhere. I have the original CD that came with the Airport Express, but I can't reinstall the software because it requires OSX 10.3 and I have 10.4.11. How can I get the AE network back?
