Dec 31, 2009I just picked up a Mini display port to DVI adapter for my Macbook Pro so that I could hook it up to my 32 inch 1080p tv that I use as my main desktop monitor. It works just great in OSX (though for some odd reason I have to put the laptop to sleep then plug it in for it to work correctly. Can't be on or off otherwise I don't get the full picture not sure why) but in bootcamp it instantly causes a blue screen. If I plug it in then reboot to windows I get a blue screen even before its loaded windows all the way. I assume this is a driver issue but I'm using the latest boot camp drivers.

Apr 5, 2007My brother's iBook G4 (I think it's a 2003 model) has a problem with the screen. When the computer is turned on, the screen stays black, although the backlight is on (the apple glows). Sometimes, on start up, the screen works normally for a random amount of time before going fuzzy and then black again.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it likely to be a problem with the hardware in the actual computer, or just the screen? Or is it a software thing?

Dec 8, 2009I recently made 2 hackintoshes. Now I was trying to get the AMD kernel for my hp in my office, but i ran into a little trouble. 2 days ago, I backed up my mac with time machine. Anyway, I was messing around with it, and I guess it thought my mac was a hackintosh, and it came with that nice wonderful welcome screen movie when u first get ur mac when I logged out. I had typed up a letter to a pen pal for school earlier, and hadnt backed up since before that letter. So I went into my windows 7 partition, and I tried to access my files from there, but when I went into macintosh hd, users, my account, it said there weren't any files. Now this means that this hackintosh kernel deleted my mac account.
Anyway I booted from the disk and it took an extremely long time to boot, and it take an extremely long time to boot into macintosh hd. Now if any of you are familiar with reinstalling the windows bootloader on a pc using vista or 7, then you might be able to relate. I kinda need the mac version of that boot into disk go to command prompt and type
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
to reinstall the Darwin Bootloader. It takes like 3 minutes to get off the apple logo, and before it took like 30 seconds.

Apr 30, 2010How to I reinstall the os x bootloader without the osx-CD. The thing is: I tested Ubuntu just for a sec to see and try out, ya know? So I did this dozen of times before, and all worked, no problem. But now I get this stupid message, some like: "there is no bootable device, please press the "'any-key'". I couldn't find the any key, so I just pressed any key, but nothing happened. After some reboot thing, I don't know what to do I can't get into my osx, ya know? I have no osx-CD, cause I left it at my other house, quite 9 hours away.

Sep 10, 2009I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 onto a small 10GB partition that I quickly made in Disk Utility (resized my HFS+ partition while leaving my Windows 7 one intact). Upon reboot, I hold Option, and it only shows the 2 partitions (OS X & Windows). I was hoping it would show the Ubuntu partition. Since it doesn't, I have to use the Windows 7 bootloader to boot into Ubuntu. So, is there a way to edit my MacBook's bootloader to show all 3 partitions?

Jun 19, 20126 month old MBP 15", been running 100% fine, plugged it into a projector the other day and it auto changed the screen resolution. I unplugged the device, went into settings and changed my screen resolution back to it's factory size as well as command & the minus key to make sure I wasn't zoomed in on anything.
I then did a system update for the following; Airport utility, Safari, Ricoh Printer, Digital Camera Raw, java, Itunes.
Restarted the computer as the updates had finished, then when turning back on the loading screen with the grey background, apple symbol and rotating loading symbol was zoomed in as much as the resolution would allow. So i restarted a couple more times, still the same thing - every time i turn the computer on the loading screen is massivly zoomed in, once it's done loading and moves to the log in screen it is fine.
I've tried plugging into the projecter again and editing my settings, that did nothing. It's like because i updated while the settings where wonky it's saved it somehow?

OS X :: Bootloader / Cloning Drives And Restore Function
Jan 5, 2011I have just bought a 1.5tb hard drive for my G5 powermac (Dual Core 2.0, pc4200 ddr2 model) and I was wondering how the best way to transfer over would be. I would be putting both drives in, but then what. Can I use the Disk utility to "restore" onto the new drive from the old? Trouble is, I can't find my Leopard discs, all I have is a Snow Leopard and a Panther retail set, so it really has to be done from inside OS X. If I were to clone using the "restore" function, what would happen in terms of a bootloader? I would put the 1.5tb in slot one then, but if I left the 250gb in there for now, would that give problems? How would it know which to boot from?

Actually I have some sort of annoyance with boot camp. It works as it's intended (with windows 7, which is a miracle, because everyone complains about that combination). But whenever I boot up and press "alt" to select the hard drive i want to boot, it always shows Windows. Can i change it for something else? and, how can I do it? Both of my partitions have names of their own... they're not generic... but still, they are not working, what can I do??

Apr 30, 2007My iBook will not display anything on its screen. Rather, it just remains black. One time, the screen did come on, but then shortly after booting, it flickered a lot and then went black again. A year ago, something similiar happened and when I took it to be serviced (when I had AppleCare), they had to send it away and have a new logic board installed. Now this machine is out of warrenty and and I am not sure what to do, or even if it is the same problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Windows On Mac :: Cannot Find Windows HD On Startup Holding Option?
Sep 9, 2009I've used the bootcamp assistant to create a 200 GB partition for Windows. I installled windows 7 x64 on this partition, everything is going well so far. I'm able to press the option key after installation and run windows and perform some updates (note, I couldn't install the required software IN windows from the snow leopard disk, let's hope this is not the source of my problem).
Everything went well so I booted back to OSX and I noticed that I needed some more partitions, so I've split my Macintosh HD further into a Media and a School partition. I didn't touch the windows partition though.
After experiencing (before) with hackintosh computers I know that i have to rewrite the boot configuration of the harddrive. Because now I'm not seeing the Windows HD anymore while holding the option key at startup and therefore unable to boot into Windows anymore. Even parallels can't discover the Windows partition.
I've tried repairing permissions, and nothing. I've tried to use the repair option on the Windows 7 disk which states it can't be done.
What can I do? Do I have to repartition it again in an different order (bootcamp states that it can only create a Windows partition if there's only 1 partition in the harddrive, so it's logical to repartition the drive after bootcamp created the Windows HD or even after the installation of Windows itself). Perhaps I need to rewrite the boot config of the mac, which I don't have a clue about.
Being 64 bit windows is not an issue, because it worked at first (before repartitioning)

Jun 21, 2009Something really simple I'm sure. I've just reformatted and setup an iMac for my parents. With the existing Admin account I created another one with Admin priveleges. So my mum had one and my dad. However when I turn on the iMac it doesn't display a logi screen so that my mum or dad can select which account they want to use and enter their password. It automatically loads into the first main admin user account.
The only way to switch to the other one is to click the apple at the top left and select log off.
Question: How can I get the login screen upon startup so my parents can select their own account?

Oct 5, 2009upon startup i see a gray screen, the apple logo, and spinning gears. Then the apple logo turns into a circle with a line through it and stays that way forever. I call apple support. They got me to run disk utility by booting from install disk. Then running repair disk and repair permissions. Then boot into safe mode and computer works fine...for a few restarts then does the same thing.

Windows On Mac :: Old Dell Computer Will Not Startup
Sep 7, 2009I have an old dell computer...about three years. And recently (like a few months ago) it kinda died. When I boot it up it comes up with the "DELL" loading screen, except this time it has about a dozen green lines going down the screen. And then after that screen the computer just dies. I think my only choice is a complete wipe of the drive since I can't even get into bios or anything but thought I might post here first.

I am trying to install Windows 7 via bootcamp. I opened Bootcamp Assistant, and when i click continue, i get this popup.
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition" The startup disk must be formatted as a single mac OS Extented volume or already partitioned by boot camp assistant for installing windows.
I click OK.. And same message reappears
I cannot go ahead.
I have my 1 TB Disk partitioned as follows
500GB for Mac - Which is Mac os Extended (Journaled)
408 GB for Movies - Which is Mac os Extended (Journaled)
91 GB for Windows - Which is Mac os Extended (Journaled)
Now what do i do to get bootcamp work.

Feb 10, 2010my windows side of my macbook pro 2.4 GHz, Intel core 2 duo, 3 gigs ram ddr2sd, now enjoys freezing at start up. Some sites have mentioned that it is an issue of software incompatibility in drivers, some have said that my windows system files are corrupt, and others just say give up and rejoin the partition, erase old data and start anew. I would have liked to avoid the last one but it got the point where nothing worked.So! I have tried booting in safe mode, (to maybe run checkdisk etc) I got onto desktop to choose yes/no for system restore and then it would randomly freeze and cause me to have to turn the power off manually. Safemode now freezes when loading mup.sys
