View 1 Replies View RelatedI figured out that using disk utility is the best method to create a password protected and hidden folder, but i can't seem to find clear instructions on how to do this. I'd like to be able to have a folder that's password protected and hidden if possible. I'd also like to be able to add files and delete files from that folder in the future as well.

One that no one would be able to get in at all? I've read where someone could use the install disc and set a new password. There's no way at all to make my computer totally safe from someone getting into it?

(like a transparent screen lock app) I think you got the idea, can you recommend me a software that does this?

I need it so when you open the folder you're immediately prompted to enter a password, without even being able to see the folder's contents.

I have OS X on my desk at work. Multiple users are set up, but is usually logged in under me. Other support reps use the machine from time to time. I noticed that if multiple users are set up then I can not lock a folder. Is there a way around this, or am I not doing something right?

I got a mid-2011 Macbook Pro (OS X 10.7.3) and I have never set a firmware password for it, and now, out of the blue, when I boot using option I get a grey screen with a lockpad and a password field, I typed every password I can think of and none of the are correct. I have never set a firmware password, I would remember that, maybe it's a new malware?
Tried everything to boot to a different state but it would rather boot normally to OS X or I would get that grey lock. I can boot to DVD by choosing the DVD in the Start Up disk option, but it's useless, since I need the old password to turn off or change the firmware password. It will go to a grey screen with the lock if Option key is pressed during boot, so, that's useless too...no need to say cmd-opt-o-f is useless. Is there any other way?

On my desktop I have 1 folder that contain completed projects as well as multiple folders to manage current projects I'm working on. Occassionally I also have files on the desktop that I am working on for the day. Whenever I arrange by name (or any other criteria) the files and folders on my desktop move all around. My completed folder is now mixed in with files I'm working on and my current projects folders are all over the placed depending on what I named them. I would like a way to pin certain folders to their place on the desktop (similar to how the hard drive icon is pinned), so when I arrange the desktop files by a certain criteria these "pinned" folders would not move.

I recently purchased a used imac g4 from a friend but I cannot seem to get it started. I tried to log in with the master password but do not have the password or install disk for OSX. I asked my friend about it and he said the same thing, he lost the user and master password including install disk. I took the comp from his hands anyway, it's in new condition and he never really used it, just forgot about it I suppose. It also seems that on startup the mac searches for disks and servers, so it could of been a part of a network system???????
I would like to know if there is a way to get into the bios and reset the whole system without password prompts and all that. Which is the best way to do this?
I have the mac osx install disk from my ibook but I tried to boot the disk and it's not booting. I also have the install disk for os tiger and that's not booting either. There must be a super secure lock on the system.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook intel(black) it originally came with tiger, i installed leopard on it a while ago. How ever i dont like leopard i want tiger back. I lost the original grey cds that came with my macbook so i hooked it up to my imac with target disk mode. I erased the disk using disk utility. Then i installed tiger with an original copy of tiger bought in a mac store. My imac rebooted i follow the installation menu and it installed. the internal drive of my macbook booted on my imac asif it were an external drive.

The problem is that it wont boot properly it just goes to the white screen make the startup sound and starts flashing a folder with a questionmark in it. ive tried resetting the pram etc but it doesnt seem to work. i tried holding alt at boot up all i get is the cursor and nothing happens. i can still connect it to my imac but that it. how can i get my macbook to reboot properly again?"

View 24 Replies View Related I am trying to password protect a folder. I have read the previous threads and stuff and I got the encrypted disk image, and now I have the .dmg file on my desktop and the disk.
From here how do I password protect the folder that I want to password protect?
What sucks is that lets say i protect a folder with a password, (command i and then sharing...) well it uses the same password that i log in with when i start up the computer, it doesnt let me choose a different one. So lets say someone finds out my log in password and logs in, then they can access that folder with the same password. Very very stupid that you can't choose different passwords. Ughh the stupidest thing ever, doesnt Apple think? Man that just makes me mad. Not that im worried about anything, but just stupid design. They didnt think it thru.Unless theres a way to put in a different password for the folder than it is for the log in.??

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a replacement keyboard on ebay for my MBP and just installed it. It's been about a week, and just today, I noticed the capslock key doesn't work.. I'm not sure if it has been this way, or if it recently just stopped. The light doesn't come on at all.
I was curious if this was a common problem? If not, is their anything I can do as a substitute for caps lock? Another key perhaps? Or, a button on the task bar or something?
Tried looking it up in my Mac instruction book I bought. How do I or can I password protect my whole document folder?
