MacBook Pro :: Way To Put In Different Password For The Folder Than It Is For The Log In

What sucks is that lets say i protect a folder with a password, (command i and then sharing...) well it uses the same password that i log in with when i start up the computer, it doesnt let me choose a different one. So lets say someone finds out my log in password and logs in, then they can access that folder with the same password. Very very stupid that you can't choose different passwords. Ughh the stupidest thing ever, doesnt Apple think? Man that just makes me mad. Not that im worried about anything, but just stupid design. They didnt think it thru.Unless theres a way to put in a different password for the folder than it is for the log in.??

On the snow leopard is there any way to set a password on a specific folder and all the contents in the folder so when others click it the password is asked?

I have a desktop folder with documents in it that I want to password protect. How do I do that? I know how to do it with a pages document, but not with an entire folder. I have Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.

I recently purchased my first Mac Book Pro. I generally have content on my laptop which I would like to keep password protected. I use Disk Utility and create a new .dmg file, encrypt it and then password protect it. It will make a new virtual drive in which i can add my files, folders etc. and once ejected, it can't be accessed without entering the password. All was good, untill i realised that I cant delete that Virtual Drive ever. As in. if i just delete the .dmg file from finder, then that file is deleted but at the same time that space from the hard disk is lost. I can't recover it. I tried erasing the disk from the Disk Utility, but it kept recreating it.
I made a new virtual disk on my external hard disk and then moved the .dmg to the trash, but the 3 GB that i had used to create that Virtual Disk was gone and absent. It still shows free space as watever -3GB. What did i do wrong? what is the right way to delete those virtual drives.

I have a new MBP and every time I want to create a folder or move a file or folder, it requires me to provide a password. How do I disable this? I'll never get any work done if I have to provide a password every time I want to do something.

Within a user account, is there a way to prevent someone from opening a folder (in documents or images, for example) without a password? Ideally, anyone can see the folder, but when someone double clicks to enter the folder, a password pop up would appear before continuing.

So I have some sensitive documents in a folder on my Mac that I'd like to restrict access to. For some reason I keep being asked a password when trying to access my PC through finder (under shared) I have tried all my passwords but none of them work!What's the best course of action, I have file sharing enabled, although there was no option to enable 'Windows Sharing' could this be the problem?It was working perfectly before I reformatted my PC (running XP)

I have not needed a pasword in the past and I remember years ago in was not possible for a P/W for a document folder.Has there been any changes that now allow for passwords for a document? If not, any free apps out there for it?

I don't know how to make a folder password protected, I know how in OS 9, but, I haven't had the need forever and now I do, I'm runnign Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.3. What I need to have protected is a folder that holds a backup of my website.
Any applications or something?
I tried using it in Keychain but, I don't know what I'm doing in there.

I have no password on my idisk public folder. When I connect via a web browser (safari, firefox, ie 6) it still asks for a password. I have set and removed the password countless times. I connect via: ([URL], the public as user and the password). Only in firefox it asks for the password, I hit cancel without typing anything, it asks again, I hit cancel again and then I get access.
In IE6 and safari it asks once for the password, doesn't accept whatever I type and then loads forever without ever showing me the contents. It seems there is a permission problem or so. even when I set a password it will not accept it. i turn password off and still no luck. Why do I pay 100 bucks and then I can't use the idisk public folder? Logging into the idisk itself via a browser works fine. I just can't give anybody access to my idisk public folder even when I use the recommended browsers.

I'm a photographer that stores all of my photos on two external hard drives. They are 2- 1TB drives that share 1 enclosure and 1 USB that connects both drives simultaneously. Drive A is an exact copy of Drive B.

Four separate folders. I recently got an Airport Extreme for the sole purpose of accessing my photos wireless. I have a roommate in my apartment, who I plan to share the drives with, however, I would like to create some kind of read/write rule so that he cannot access anything on the (PHOTOS) folder. I've tried the app, "Hide Folders", which is great, but will not let me work on the folders while the folders are hidden. I need the PHOTOS folder to be visible, but not accessible by anything other than myself.

I figured out that using disk utility is the best method to create a password protected and hidden folder, but i can't seem to find clear instructions on how to do this. I'd like to be able to have a folder that's password protected and hidden if possible. I'd also like to be able to add files and delete files from that folder in the future as well.

I created a password protected folder in Snow Leopard. I created a new blank disk image with 128-bit encryption. Now I can mount the image, enter my password and: Access to secret files!
Question: I selected the disk image and deleted it. A password was not necessary...is this true? Can anyone just delete the disk image without entering a password?
