When I want to lock a folder (Pressing Command-I) and change everybody's access into: No Access. Finder says that the operation can't be completed because I don't have the necessary permission. What do I do to get the necessary permission?Mac Os 10.9.4

I have OS X on my desk at work. Multiple users are set up, but is usually logged in under me. Other support reps use the machine from time to time. I noticed that if multiple users are set up then I can not lock a folder. Is there a way around this, or am I not doing something right?

Occassionally I also have files on the desktop that I am working on for the day. Whenever I arrange by name (or any other criteria) the files and folders on my desktop move all around. My completed folder is now mixed in with files I'm working on and my current projects folders are all over the placed depending on what I named them. I would like a way to pin certain folders to their place on the desktop (similar to how the hard drive icon is pinned), so when I arrange the desktop files by a certain criteria these "pinned" folders would not move.

I just updated the OS to 10.9.4, and in the ~6 hours since doing so, my computer has locked up twice. Right in the middle of doing a task, all response ceases except for mouse movement. Three-finger salute is ineffective, and the only solution is the power button.
Is it possible to roll back to 10.9.3?

I've been running across a bit of a problem with Mavericks of late. Just re-installed it on my MBP too!
If I choose Login Window or let the screen turn off/lock, the wifi disconnects while on AC power.
I really don't want that to happen as I sometimes need to connect to it remotely to check on the status of a photoshop process, data transfer, etc.
My cap lock is reversed. PRAM reset was of no use. Restart was useless. also reinstalling maverick was useless. what can it be? if I disable the caps lock from the keyboard preferences, the led turns on, meaning that for my mac the lower case is set when the led is on.

This has just started happening a few days ago. I think it has something to do with bluetooth. Every time I have to restart my iMac, the mouse and keyboard freeze. I work around this by unplugging the mouse from the keyboard and plugging it into one of the usb ports on the back of the imac. I used to have a wireless keyboard and mouse and I'm typing on it now because the regular wired keyboard no longer seems to work at all now. I think the bluetooth setting sin system preferences which are all checked, may have something to do with this but not sure. Everything else on the machijne is fine. How can I set things so that I can use my wired keyboard?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a hard drive on my 2008 MacPro that's problematic and so I bought a new drive and installed Mavericks on it and am booting just fine on the new drive. There is however, one folder in the Library/Preferences folder that I need to copy over to the new drive. All the tricks for accessing the Library folder work great on the start up drive, but I can't seem to access the Library folder on the old drive (both drives in the MacPro as it has 4 drive bays), even though the drive will mount. How can I see that Library folder on the old drive? Note while I can mount the old drive, I can't boot to it.

Working with OSX Mavericks 10.9.1. Can't update b/c I'm not an admin.
We know how to make a new folder, and then change its icon by going into the Get Info panel, and dragging an object on the desktop into that upper section.
When we do this with a jpeg, what happens is that the icon of the new folder becomes the default icon for a jpeg. Is there any way to change the folder icon into the thumbnail of that specific jpeg?
when displaying with the Finder (MacOS X 10.9.3) the "Downloads Folder" content in list mode, It didn't display the small triangle in front of the folder which are present. I have a Macbook Pro and iMac on the same network. I'd like folderX on the MBP to be basically mirrored on the iMac. If the MBP goes down or I need to send it in for repairs, I want the iMac to always have an updated version of folderX so I can continue working on this content from the iMac. Then when I get the MBP back, I'd like the MBP to be updated with latest changes from the iMac and then have the MBP once again become the primary and ship folderX updates to the iMac.
I believe a Time Machine from the MBP to the iMac might work? I do have a 2TB TimeCapsule and TM is in use on my MBP. But can I only have 1 TM per computer?

By Right-clicking on the selected files and choose “New Folder with Selection (x items). The process was new to me and in the middle of it, I cancelled it. View 2 Replies View RelatedCame in this AM to find power had been lost some time last night. After I booted up, I could not see anything in my Documents folder... I get a message "The folder 'Documents' can't be opened because you don't have permission to see the contents." Permissions seem to be fine:

group:everyone deny list,delete...I also cannot see it in my Time Machine, even for older dates when everything was OK. I can see the contents with an account with sudo privileges. I verified and repaired permissions. I booted into safe mode and ran an fsck Googling led to several discussions where people were using different UIDs or had otherwise lost privileges, which does not appear to be the case here.
