Is there a way to put a password lock on folders?Â
I need it so when you open the folder you're immediately prompted to enter a password, without even being able to see the folder's contents.
One that no one would be able to get in at all? I've read where someone could use the install disc and set a new password. There's no way at all to make my computer totally safe from someone getting into it?

I got a mid-2011 Macbook Pro (OS X 10.7.3) and I have never set a firmware password for it, and now, out of the blue, when I boot using option I get a grey screen with a lockpad and a password field, I typed every password I can think of and none of the are correct. I have never set a firmware password, I would remember that, maybe it's a new malware?
Tried everything to boot to a different state but it would rather boot normally to OS X or I would get that grey lock. I can boot to DVD by choosing the DVD in the Start Up disk option, but it's useless, since I need the old password to turn off or change the firmware password. It will go to a grey screen with the lock if Option key is pressed during boot, so, that's useless too...no need to say cmd-opt-o-f is useless. Is there any other way?

I figured out that using disk utility is the best method to create a password protected and hidden folder, but i can't seem to find clear instructions on how to do this. I'd like to be able to have a folder that's password protected and hidden if possible. I'd also like to be able to add files and delete files from that folder in the future as well.

I have some files in my download folder, in my macbook's hard drive, but the problems comes when I am trying to move files to my folder called ''Documents'' and the system's requesting my personal password. And after it's copying that.... That's a huge problem because they are really heavy documents.

I asked my friend about it and he said the same thing, he lost the user and master password including install disk. I have the mac osx install disk from my ibook but I tried to boot the disk and it's not booting. I also have the install disk for os tiger and that's not booting either. There must be a super secure lock on the system.
I tried to make a folder write-only, then save my preferences by locking the folder and securing changes, but I can still change it from write only to read only in the information section.

Passwords, usernames, information, etc etc. I've created a .numbers document with a lot of my usernames and passwords for various websites / any information I need. This file has no lock on it, so if anyone would be able to get into my computer, they would be able to get that file with a little perseverance or a little spotlight search. I've tried going to "get info" on the file and tinkering with different options there with no luck. I've googled it, and the only (somewhat) promising thing that came up was to use Disk Utility and create a disk image. It states that is best for transferring through a flash drive. Since I am updating this almost weekly, I do not think that is the best solution. Is there a program, or a setting which would enable me to set a password on a file(s) or folder(s)?

I recently bought a replacement keyboard on ebay for my MBP and just installed it. It's been about a week, and just today, I noticed the capslock key doesn't work.. I'm not sure if it has been this way, or if it recently just stopped. The light doesn't come on at all.
I was curious if this was a common problem? If not, is their anything I can do as a substitute for caps lock? Another key perhaps? Or, a button on the task bar or something?
I have an appointment to bring my iMac in tomorrow for service at an Apple store.I think all I need is for the inside of the front glass to be cleaned, and they told me I shouldn't need to leave it, but who knows. I just realized that I haven't ever brought any computer in for service in 20 years of owning them (I've been lucky, I guess).I want to do everything I can to protect my privacy.I've moved sensitive documents and information off both internal hard drives.I've emptied the trash.I've also cleared the history and cache on all three browsers I use.
I'm not going to go to the trouble to move all video files and pictures off my internal hard drives.It's way too much data.There is definitely stuff I consider private that I don't want others to look at, but I just can't see moving all of it.I'd love to password-protect the folders so nobody can get in them, but apparently that isn't possible (I don't want to go through creating encrypted disk images--again, way too much data). Is there anything else I should do to protect my privacy before I bring my computer in for service?Is there any easy way to password-protect folders and files? I went in Finder and locked one folder, but it still opens up with no problem, so that didn't help.I presume this is because I'm the only one who uses my computer and I don't require a password on startup.I also presume that such a password wouldn't prevent techs from looking at something if they were so inclined.
I'm not as worried about all of this as I would be if I were bringing the computer in to some independent servicer (instead of the Apple store where I'm bringing it).But I really don't like the idea that the techs will have access to everything on my hard drives while they are servicing my computer.

I have folders apperaing in all of my documents folders. I can not click on them. They are typically called "folders," "PDF Documents," & "Speadsheets"Â

I'm looking for software that can silently sync local folders with remote webdav folders.
It would also be nice if I could just relate to the local folder, and the software would automatically synce new files in both directions.
