I recently found our old Performa 575 Macintosh computer in our basement. It was from my childhood and none of us have touched it in a number of years.
The problem is we all have passwords for all the accounts, but none of us remember them. (it is at ease 2.0)
Does anyone know how to reset the password? Or any other ideas how I can get into the computer?
I purchased a used 1.42 GHz G4 Mac Mini, with OS X 10.4 installed. It came with the system disks. My problem seems to be with the password and user name when trying to download software.
Is there a way to reset the user name and password?
give very specific directions, as I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to Macs.
I was given a G3iMac OSX, but the only problem is that the person who put in the password has passed on. I was given a few to try, but no luck.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI set my fn key to display all windows (same as F3 default). I would like to remove this, but it doesn't show up on the system preferences shortcut list. Pressing "Restore Defaults" does nothing to alleviate the problem. Is there a way that I could reset all of my default shortcuts through terminal or something more powerful than system preferences?

My MacBook Pro 17" 10.5 has been working flawlessly for almost two years. I am in an RV resort and their WiFi system has been updated. Prior to that everything worked fine with the old WEP password. However, with the new system and new WEP password my Mac Book Pro will not acknowledge the new password. I know the info I'm inputting is correct because my old iBook is working fine with the new password. I can only conclude that I need to clear every thing out in respect to the old name (The new name hasn't changed), IP address, and WEP password, so Airport will see the new info as if it is for the first time.

Lately I've been noticing that when logging into our SnowLeopard miniserve after "fat-fingering" the password once, I am prompted to reset the Master Password. When doing this you are also informed that the keychain will be updated. Is there a system level setting that is causing this? It doesn't seem like you should have to reset the Master Password/keychain after one failed attempt to log into the system...?

I have a new-to-me G3, OS 10.3. The keyboard is set up with foreign characters in place of the following keys: `~[]{}|. (There may be other keys replaced with foreign characters but these are the most problematic). I tried resetting using preferences, international, input but this did not work. How can I restore the keyboard to it's original character set?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my MacBook Pro for just over a year now and it's been awesome (it was my first Mac after being a PC user for 20 yrs).
As soon as I got my Mac I modified the mouse & keyboard to act more like windows:modified the control key to work as commandenabled secondary (right) click on the track pad
This worked fine for a long time, then all of a sudden in the last month or so these preferences keep being lost and I need to go back in and set them up again.
Have I 'unlocked' some setting that allows these preferences to keep resetting? Or is my mac suffering from windows-like OS issues?

How do I password lock a folder in Tiger 10.4.2?
View 24 Replies View RelatedLong story short, bought a Mac, running Tiger, went to install leopard, need the admin password, seller wont get back to me. How would I reset it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently did some work to a 15" 700mhz G4 iMac I got as a gift. I put in a new hard drive, DVD burner and an airport card. Now I'm at the point where I need to install Tiger. I have the original owner's disks, but the only form of input I have for the iMac is an old USB keyboard which was used for the PlayStation 2.
I tested the keyboard on my MacBook and found that it works fine, but only after I had to run a test to recognize what kind it was. I'm pretty sure that since I can't plug and play with this keyboard (without running a test) I won't be able to use it to install Tiger.
So this is where I'm stuck. Is my problem as easy to fix as borrowing a more modern, made-for-a-computer keyboard? And if so, does it have to be from Apple, or will a Logitech or Dell work nicely?

i started my imac 10.6.2 this morning and for the first time it has asked me for my password, which is fine, but the keyboard will not work, i just get that 'bonging' sound when i type. can anyone help as i am effectively locked out of my own system and am using a friends laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBrand new macbook air. Got a coffee spill on it.
Immediately shut it off and cleaned what I could up, but some coffee got in the keys on the right hand side.
So now, when booting, there is no 'BONG' start up. It asks for a password to login, but it won't accept the right password (like the keys are pressing the wrong buttons) - pressing the 'enter' key during this process puts a character up in the password screen like a different key is being pressed.
Can't log into it. Haven't disassembled it yet to see what I can see, but looking for advice. My wife just bought this for her business (first nice thing she's ever bought herself) and is mortified to have spilled coffee in it after only 4 days.
