Dec 21, 2008I noticed that my system stopped making system (i.e. Mac OS X) sounds for some reason. Sounds from applications are fine. I checked and unchecked the "play user interface sound effects" check box in the preference panes to no effect.

when I use a torrent client... when port 52025 that works great download full kb of my conection BUT the hd sounds a lot every kb sounds sounds sounds... I dont why, when downlaod a simple .dmg with safari dont sounds any... why torrents make work a lot the HD.
if I use other port dont sound but donwload are really sucks 20kb or minus.

Oct 30, 2009One of the front fans on my early '08 Mac Pro sounds like it's grinding. When I first boot up the fans are whisper quiet as they should be, but give it a few minutes and there is a distinct grinding sound and I've narrowed it to the top fan on the front of the case. When the system is turned of, the fan whines to a stop. Is there any way to lubricate the fan to solve this? The access doesn't seem very easy, and I'd rather not have to mess with the case assembly. Or do I have to pay some kid at the apple store a hundred or so to do it?

Sep 3, 2009Since upgrading my MBP to Snow Leopard over this weekend, I have lost some of my system sounds. Specifically, I don't have any sounds for sent mail or when you empty the trash.
I've scoured over several forums where this problem is highlighted, but none of their fixes have worked for me. For instance: I've checked my 'Sound' preference pane to make sure sound effects are on; I've restarted my machine; I've checked the hidden preferences using Tinker Tool; and, repaired permissions through Disk Utility.
Has anyone got any solutions to this problem? Is anyone else experienceing the same issue?
MacBook Pro :: New 17'' MBP Makes Odd Sounds When Restarting
Sep 13, 2009I bought a new 17 inch MBP tonight. When it started up, it made a very odd sound that was similar to a CD/DVD being processed or ejected.I thought maybe it was a one time thing, but since restarting it a few times, it's made the same sound each time.Is this normal? I've never heard it before. It's like there's a CD or DVD in there, but of course there isn't.

Oct 2, 2009I have a iMac g5 and have problems with MSN messenger. Since about 1 week, the sound alert when a contact in my list comes online, doesn't sound any longer. All the other sound alerts still work normally and all the alerts in MSN preference are activated and work when trying them out. I just did a complete reinstall of Leopard and only did the system update and installing the msn messenger and still, that same problem is there. Why is this happening? Is this a bug in msn that started recently?

OS X :: Apple Mail Makes No Sounds?
Dec 14, 2009I have configured Mail.app to make a sound (a short MP3 file) when new mail arrives. This used to work a few years ago.
For the past few years it hasn't worked. User interface sounds are switched on and everything is activated in System Preferences and Mail preferences.
When I check the settings for the MP3 file in Mail preferences, it even plays the file there. But when a new mail arrives it does not.
Simiarly, and I don't know if this problem is related or not, Skype has stopped making user interface sounds. Again, this is the same Mac, which is configured for user interface sounds in System Preferences, and Skype is configured to make a ringing sound when I call someone and some weird sound when I receive an instant message in a chat window.

Jun 5, 2010 17" i7 500GB 7200rpm MBP machine a few days ago... it's great.
However, my internal mic is having some major problems. The sound quality from it is just awful.
It sounds like it is barely picking up my voice and it is just getting static and other strange sounds.?

Macbook Air 3 Beep Sounds When Turning Off
Mar 31, 2012Macbook air, when turning it off, it started to make 3 beep sounds. The fans blow heavily and it keeps on 3 beeps and a pause and the 3 beeps again and again. Some pages say that when it is three beeps it is something with bad blocks, which means something is wrong with the RAM.
1) How can something suddenly go wrong with the RAM just turning it on.
2) How can you fix this yourself?, Instead of going to the Macstore Repair? I tried resetting the PRAM by (by pressing Cmd+Opt(ALT)+R+P) Nothing happens!
3) Saw on another page that it had been an issue for a MBP user and changing or taking out the ramblocks could fix the issue, anyone tried this with Macbook air?

MacBook Pro :: Can Only Hear Sounds From Messages
Apr 6, 2012I hear the various sounds involved with Messages in Lion 10.7.3, when sending a msg, receiving, contacts becoming available etc. I am not hearing *any* other audio at all: No sound from Chrome with: Facebook videos, Youtube, Soundcloud or Vimeo. No sound from any media in Safari. No sound from any media in iTunes. No sound when playing files with Quicktime. No sound when increasing/decreasing system volume.I can only hear Messages sounds! Everything was working fine last night, the last thing I was able to hear was an .m4a file that I played through Quicktime. This morning - nothing. Where should I start troubleshooting? I've already restarted a couple of times, will do a full shutdown and restart again.

MacBook Pro :: Output Sounds For It Don't Work
May 20, 2012The built in speakers for my mac don't work. Speakers are just fine, but there is a red light in the headphones socket and when I go to system applications and sound, the bar for output is grayed out. When I turn the MacBook on I hear the sound that macs make when they turn on, but other than that I hear no noise from the in-built speakers. What can I do?

OS X :: Alert Sounds (all The Stock Ones - No Custom Ones) Messed Up
Oct 16, 2010All of a sudden my alert sounds (all the stock ones, no custom ones) are messed up. The one I use the most (Basso) just sounds like static now when it is triggered (e.g. backspacing at the prompt in terminal). Also, the individual .aiff files will not play in any player. Haven't been able to find anything remotely like this with extensive googling. System specs in signature. [edit] the "pop" sounds you get when you adjust the volume is stuffed up too!
