I can not deselect mute all computer sounds on my Imac with Lion I went into preference and for output the only thing I can select is headphones is there away to get the built in speakers back on this drop down list?

I noticed that my system stopped making system (i.e. Mac OS X) sounds for some reason. Sounds from applications are fine. I checked and unchecked the "play user interface sound effects" check box in the preference panes to no effect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI punch my iTunes music through an Airport Express to a remote set of speakers in the kitchen, which works wonderfully, but I'd like to know if there's a way to run the system sounds through the AE as well. In particular, I listen to Pandora (through a browser) on my laptop, but would love to listen in the kitchen. Any way to do this? System 10.4 I believe...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new 17 inch MBP tonight. When it started up, it made a very odd sound that was similar to a CD/DVD being processed or ejected.I thought maybe it was a one time thing, but since restarting it a few times, it's made the same sound each time.Is this normal? I've never heard it before. It's like there's a CD or DVD in there, but of course there isn't.

However, my internal mic is having some major problems. The sound quality from it is just awful.
It sounds like it is barely picking up my voice and it is just getting static and other strange sounds.?
Do you think I should contact Apple?
Macbook air, when turning it off, it started to make 3 beep sounds. The fans blow heavily and it keeps on 3 beeps and a pause and the 3 beeps again and again. Some pages say that when it is three beeps it is something with bad blocks, which means something is wrong with the RAM.
1) How can something suddenly go wrong with the RAM just turning it on.
2) How can you fix this yourself?, Instead of going to the Macstore Repair? I tried resetting the PRAM by (by pressing Cmd+Opt(ALT)+R+P) Nothing happens!
3) Saw on another page that it had been an issue for a MBP user and changing or taking out the ramblocks could fix the issue, anyone tried this with Macbook air?

I hear the various sounds involved with Messages in Lion 10.7.3, when sending a msg, receiving, contacts becoming available etc. I am not hearing *any* other audio at all: No sound from Chrome with: Facebook videos, Youtube, Soundcloud or Vimeo. No sound from any media in Safari. No sound from any media in iTunes. No sound when playing files with Quicktime. No sound when increasing/decreasing system volume.I can only hear Messages sounds! Everything was working fine last night, the last thing I was able to hear was an .m4a file that I played through Quicktime. This morning - nothing. Where should I start troubleshooting? I've already restarted a couple of times, will do a full shutdown and restart again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe built in speakers for my mac don't work. Speakers are just fine, but there is a red light in the headphones socket and when I go to system applications and sound, the bar for output is grayed out. When I turn the MacBook on I hear the sound that macs make when they turn on, but other than that I hear no noise from the in-built speakers. What can I do?

I asked my co-worker the other day, i heard that the mini displayport to HDMI with audio will NOT support audio played through anythign but video players.
Is this correct?
For example,
If I'm using my macbook air plugged into via HDMI to the TV,
I play music thru Itunes, do i get the sound pass thru to the TV?
How about if i'm playing a game on my browser with sound, does the sound go through the TV?
How bout youtube or other flash based videos?
I'm sure there is something obvious I have missed, but how do I record sounds (such as voice notes) with my MBA?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got home today and went to turn up the audio to have it not do anything. When I hit the volume keys the icon appears on the screen but it doesn't move up or down. I can't move the volume control in the menu bar either. I've tried restarted and my system is up to date.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a really weird problem with my sound on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. The only sounds I can hear from the internal speakers are system sounds. No other audio can be heard from iTunes, VLC, browsers, etc. The only sounds I can hear are the ones found in "System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects" and iMessage notifications. For a while, I could hear the volume up/down chirp, but even that's gone now.
Everything is fine when I plug in headphones. I thought it was the microswitch in the headphone port, but the Macbook Pro defaults back to "Internal Speakers" when the headphones are removed. Resetting the SMC and running the normal Disk Utility routine doesn't work either. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with the speakers, either, or I probably wouldn't be able to hear only these specific sounds.Â

Sometimes when I move it it almost sounds like there's some water in a tank somewhere in my laptop.

I bought this computer (Macbook Aluminum 2.4 GHz - currently running Snow Leopard) last October - my warranty ends Oct. 16th. Anyways, I put a disc in the drive earlier today, and the computer took it right away. That was unusual because half the time it doesn't wanna take the disc (someone at the genius bar assured me all of these Aluminum Macbooks are this way). So continuing with my story, I took the disc out when I was done and I heard slight clicking noises coming from the side where you put discs in. I closed the computer because I thought it would stop it, reopened it, and it was still doing it. So then I restarted it, and I didn't hear it. Now I'm hearing it every so often.

I bought a 15" macbook pro in june of 2011 and its been working fine. However a couple days ago it started beeping at me. This only happens when I'm listening to music on iTunes, and it is a series of three beeps.

I have had some issues with my macbook pro lately:Â A few weeks ago, my Macbook started freezing and making alarm sounds. I didn't do anything about it because it happened only a few times per week. Â Â
Suddenly it happened 4 or 5 times in a row, and after x times my Macbook wouldn't go past the grey start-up screen (Apple logo loading). So I was unable to login. I solved the ''issue'' by erasing the disk. My Macbook worked again, but all data was gone. The freezing issue was gone as well.  But 2 days ago, it started.. again. And today, my Macbook suddenly crashed/shut down. Now, I am not even able to start my macbook. It doesn't show anything, if I press the power button, nothing happens. Â
I did a SMC reset, and my Macbook worked, but only for 15 minutes. It just happened again. Something is clearly wrong and I don't know what. my Macbook instanly freezed when I connected the power cord. And I think the power cord is broken, last few days it barely charged the Macbook. Â
Every time I watch a flash video in especially HD.. I get these sounds! (see video), any idea what they are?

with the keyboard. I was so happy! That is, until I closed the lid to make it sleep. That's when something horrifying happens. The Apple logo flickers after a little noise from the SuperDrive. It's as if it doesn't really want to go to sleep, but the little light is glowing.I'm really concerned; I do not want to send this one in to Apple again. The process is too long to bare without my MacBook!

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MBA gives out squeaking sound around bass beats. Doesn't happen all the time, but when it does happen, it irritates me. When I listen to the same song on the iphone, I get a very clear sound. Can anyone do this for me? Can you listen to "Speak to me/Breathe" by Pink Floyd on your headphones / earphones if you have that track? Along with the first few heartbeats, I hear squeaking noises. Do you hear anything like that?
This squeaking noise could also happen sometimes when I am minimizing / maximizing windows, or doing something processor intensive.
