OS X :: IChat Sounds Just Stopped Playing?

OS X :: System Stopped Making System Sounds / Sounds From Applications Are Fine
Dec 21, 2008I noticed that my system stopped making system (i.e. Mac OS X) sounds for some reason. Sounds from applications are fine. I checked and unchecked the "play user interface sound effects" check box in the preference panes to no effect.

Jan 2, 2009It might be just a minor problem, but Mail stopped making sounds. No new mail sound, no reassuring jetplane sound when a mail is sent, no blip when there's nothing going on. I've checked the preferences, and they should still be turned on.
Also, I've got the impression something hapened to either my keychain or my cookies in Safari, since I had to login to a bunch of forums and other sites that I can normally just check. Firefox doesn't seem to have this problem, but I prefer Safari as my primary internet browser.

Nov 21, 2009I got home today and went to turn up the audio to have it not do anything. When I hit the volume keys the icon appears on the screen but it doesn't move up or down. I can't move the volume control in the menu bar either. I've tried restarted and my system is up to date.

May 24, 2010I have the aluminum unibody macbook from I think 2008 with the 2.0 ghz and 2 gigs of ram. I was on iChat with a friend the other day and wanted to record our conversation. So I fired up QuickTime X and started the screen recording function. When we were finished (a good 15 mins later) I pressed stop on the screen recording and everything seemed fine. I went back today to make notes and it only recorded 6 minutes of our conversation!! My computer was really working hard on the fan keeping it cool from all the cpu usage but I thought everything was fine. Could it have overheated and caused QuickTime to stop recording? Or another explanation?

Oct 28, 2010Out of the clear blue sky, VLC just stopped playing MKV files. I was watching a .MKV file just 15 minutes prior. I'll click on a MKV file and it'll just hang... or I'll open up VLC and open the .MKV file from there and it'll hang. Have the most recent version.
I went to preferences and changed the preload so it wouldn't load all the videos in the directory and it still doesn't work.

Mar 25, 2012My iMac has suddenly just stopped playing the videos in YouTube. Up until today I have been watching them no problem, now every single one i have clicked on says 'This video is currently unavailable'. However I can watch them over the same wifi connection on my iPhone4 no problem. I havent downloaded any new software or been on any sites other than Facebook, so can't imagine whats up with it. Please help I've only has it 5 days.

May 28, 2009I was listening to a podcast on itunes, paused it, closed the MacBook, opened again a few minutes later and now there's no sound at all. There's sound from the rest of the mac, online etc., but not in itunes, it just plays the podcasts/songs mutely.

Nov 27, 2009I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

when I use a torrent client... when port 52025 that works great download full kb of my conection BUT the hd sounds a lot every kb sounds sounds sounds... I dont why, when downlaod a simple .dmg with safari dont sounds any... why torrents make work a lot the HD.
if I use other port dont sound but donwload are really sucks 20kb or minus.

Oct 30, 2009One of the front fans on my early '08 Mac Pro sounds like it's grinding. When I first boot up the fans are whisper quiet as they should be, but give it a few minutes and there is a distinct grinding sound and I've narrowed it to the top fan on the front of the case. When the system is turned of, the fan whines to a stop. Is there any way to lubricate the fan to solve this? The access doesn't seem very easy, and I'd rather not have to mess with the case assembly. Or do I have to pay some kid at the apple store a hundred or so to do it?
