In my Finder window the Shared Section is missing. Its even checked under Finder>Preferences>Sidebar. Do I need to edit something in my Library. If so, what file? in what folder? I rebooted, reset, etc to no avial.

I've googled and search here, and I just can't find the answer to this.
I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?
I have almost given up on this but one last try :
I have (inadvertantly) created 2 connections to the same NAS storage device, 1 SMB and 1 AFP - both work but I would like to remove the SMB one.

I am getting my MacBook Pro running Yosemite ready to sell. After deleting all old information and reinstalling OS X, I still see my old computer's name as a shared device in the finder sidebar.

I have tried to restart finder and everything else I can think of. Why can't I see "Shared" in Finder. I know I have at least one thing that should show up, but it does not.

I'm trying to find ways to get rid of the Windows XP operating system as a means of sharing some data on the network and thought I'd try and experiment in Linux.
I installed OpenSuSE v11.0 and gave it the name, "mediasrv" as the NetBIOS name. Well, the experiment didn't succeed and I rebooted Windows off of the old drive and everything is just fine with the exception that the "mediasrv" NetBIOS name and the Windows XP NetBIOS name BOTH show up in the finder.
Yeah, I know it doesn't hurt anything it just drives me crazy. So, how do I remove the "mediasrv" name from showing up in the finder?
A couple of months ago I was at the head office and connected to the in house Wifi. When I did, a bunch of shared drives or folders showed in my finder under "Shared". I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.

Does iCloud save pictures shared from other devices to my hard drive? When I look for a picture on my hard drive, it's not there. When I go to copy the picture from iCloud to iPhoto, a pop up box asks me if I want to duplicate this picture or not. I don't want duplicates on my hard drive, but I don't mind having duplicates on the iCloud and the hard drive, combined.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now. When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhat are these "shared" computers? Are they other computers spying on my personal files? (is that even possible?) How can I remove these shared computes and make sure that they don't latch on to my computer again. I changed my airport password but they are still there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that on the left side of each folder, there is a section titled "Shared" and it is showing what looks like the computer names of two PC laptops from someone I know. I have never actually done file sharing with these computers, so I'm not sure why they are displaying here? Why do these display here? I come in contact with lots of people all day long and I do not see their computers in this list.

How can I permanently remove the awful new U2 album from everywhere it shows up on my Mac, phone and iPad?

I am having problem with my Mac Air. For some reason when I go to Finder, there is no list of Shared computers. However, when I open Finder on my MacBook Pro it shows all shared computers in the area. From my MacBook Pro I can see the shared Mac Air, but nothing in shared of Mac Air. All shared setting on on MacBook Pro. Plus there more shared computers on the network. I think something wrong with Mac Air settings.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNew user here, I'm showing "your-w92*******" I blanked out the rest, with a little monitor icon under "SHARED" in my finder? Any clue as to what it is and how I can get rid of it? If I right click I only get Open or Get Info as options. If I click Open I get "Connection Failed". If I click on Get Info it displays "PC Server" under kind. I did try to get my MBP to print in my PCs HP printer (unsucessfully) using cups. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'd just like to delete it but don't know how.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and installed the updates for the OS and now there is no "shared" section in the finder at all. Shared items are checked in the preferences. Selecting "go" and "network" doesn't do anything. I checked in the system preferences and the name of the workgroup is correct. The other computers in the workgroup can see my shared folders, but I can no longer see anything shared.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find out how to change the way finder presents itself while it is looking at a shared computer, because it appears to be doing this incorrectly, or is messed up some how. If you look at the screen shot of the highlighted drives of this shared computer, you will notice there are multiple instances of drive J and I would like to remove the repeated link. Also some of the drives have names associated with them, while others do not. I cannot figure out why some take the name given to the drive under windows in the macs finder window and why some do not? To throw another odd question in, drive G is not labeled movies anywhere, but rather is a drive labeled TV Shows under windows. Rebooting does nothing, as this has been there for months, even after a restore.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got an iMac. For the first few hours it was turned on, my MBP showed up in the iMac's Finder, and vice versa. However now, for the past two days, neither Mac has shown up in the others Finder. Connecting to afp://[their ip address] lets me see the public folders, but I still can't use the shared iTunes libraries, or share screens.
The same thing happened with the MBP and other Windows/Linux devices on the network, as well as my jailbroken iPod with Netatalk installed, but I just chalked that up to the klugey nature of mixed networking. Guess that wasn't the problem.
These have been appearing for a while in my shared column in Finder as 'PC Servers' - I'm aware they're duplicate references for my actual computers but how do I remove them?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell, I've never seen this before. I did not (intentionally) connect to this server listed under Shared in the sidebar... so where did it come from and how can I ditch it? Get Info only tells me it's a PC server
My file sharing is turned off, etc. Little Snitch is not flagging any unexpected network activity. I'm very puzzled.
I'm connected via Airport to my company's wireless network. Last week I was able to connect to this network via my Macbook. Went home this weekend, come back and now I can connect and browse the internet, but I can't view the "Shared" folder with other people's public folders and shared files. Any idea what may be wrong?
I don't believe anything has changed, as over the weekend all I did was connect to two wireless networks at my house.
I have no idea what's causing this, and it's making it difficult to retrieve files I need for certain projects.
As a new Mac user and as the result of my machinations in the iMac Lion OS, I managed to wind up with an extra PC showing in the Shared section of the Finder Sidebar. I show my wife's PC and Time Capsule but I have an extra PC named Gerry581e of which I have no idea. I would like to know how to delete it from the list.

I try to buy music in iTunes. I learned that I have not set correctly the rights on the shared folder in the Finder. I tried to correct the rights to read and write for all three user groups, it´s still not working.I figured that one of the three users is not correct:
1. system (me)
2. wheel
3. everyone
In my case, it´s not showing system, but it´s stating "loading" with a ?.I think I can´t buy music cause of the missing name in the shared folder, right?
