This hasn't happened before. My Mac (MacBook running OS 10.5.6) will flash instead of a "bloop" noise when I get a notification. When I get an alert, I won't get a noise anymore. Or when I hit a button on my keyboard that does nothing my computer won't make a noise. Now my displays just flash white for a second. I have no idea how this happened.

Right now I am in Safari, but mail is running in the dock (I clicked the red X button). - - Just for reference of how I am using Mail usually.

I don't want to rely on alerts being added at to the subscription itself, I want to be able to customise on my end when I get an alert for an entry, and when or what that alert will be. Is this possible? I don't see any options for it. If not, anyone know of any good alternative calendar applications that are like iCal?
is there a way to turn off audio sound effects/ notifications when you chat with somebody on Skype? As well as when people signin?
The only settings for audio is just for when signing in but there's no option to shut off any other sound effects.
Any suggestions?
Using ClamXav, I keep getting phishing alerts. Even as I scan each day there are at least 7 new alerts, all of which I've instructed to be quarantined. Any ideas on what I can do to protect myself? How worried should I be?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using iChat to connect to Facebook's IM protocol and cannot figure out how to turn off all the little notifications windows popping up in the top right corner telling me about people signing on/off/idle/etc.It is annoying to have a few hundred friends and constantly see it telling me about people getting on/off but I'd still like to be connected to the service.

This morning for example I turned on my iMac and I only had Safari open but I heard a two tone alert, but I seriously doubt that alert came from Safari. I'll hear that every once in awhile but I could never seem to figure what it's for? Do you guys have any idea where I can find out where that alert is coming from?

I was looking at Web Secretary, but it's a *nix app that doesn't have a GUI and I'm not entirely sure it would do what I need. I would rather have something a bit more user-friendly anyway, and preferably free.
I use Sync on two machines to keep iCal on both synchronized. It works fine, except for one small annoyance. Sometimes I create an alert attached to a calendar entry, to send me e-mail sometime before the event. And, yes, I get two messages, one from each machine.

I add an alarm at say 30 min prior to the event, but when the even is added to their iCloud calendar, no alarm/alert added so the only notification they receive is the email they get when I create or modify the event.Â
Is there any way of enforcing the alarm to be shared, or configuing the other users settings to always have an alert. At the moment they all have no alarm at all. Â
I have tried ticking/unticking the 'ignore alerts' on the shared calendar on their Macs, but to no avail..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Mavericks, and now the iMessage notifications that I get on my Macbook Pro are different, and I'm not sure how (or if I can) change them back to before. It used to be that when I got an iMessage and was using my laptop, the Messages application would bounce on the dock and show a "1" or however many new messages I had. Â
Now, with Mavericks, it doesn't bounce on the dock or show the number of new messages. It will only play the sound or display a banner if I want it to. Is there any way to get a number to show with the new messages I have, or can it not do that anymore with Mavericks??Â

Since I got the computer which was about 2 months ago, I haven't been able to get a "new" mail notification on new emails. It has notified me but very few times. Why is that? I thought it had to do with me having my email also setup on my bb phone but I didn't have that problem when I was using Tiger on my old Powerbook computer. I don't open or even check my email on my phone and still I don't get the "new mail" notification. Is Mail broken?

So I made a backup to a new mac (the15" retina one, mid 2014). On my old mac with mavericks(v 10.9.4) notifications were working. On this one they are not. They are not showing up in notification center.
In the system preferences they are added, also in the notifications they are added to show up to 10 recent items.Â

It started occurring yesterday. I hear the notification sound but don't see the new messages in any of Mail folders. Sometimes my SpamSieve app shows a figure of messages of unknown nature, sometimes not, but nevertheless I hear the sound but don't get new messages. In Mail Preferences when moving the pointer over check-box with smith like "Enable the sound for other actions" (or whatever it sounds) a yellow commentary box briefly popped up which said that the chosen notification sound could alert about some other actions like sending a message, when neither message is received (?!!!), or there some error occurred during receiving or sort of. Is it possible to know specifically what messages couldn't make their way to my Mailbox (through Console app maybe?)?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMine is only a month old after being replaced due to a fault and now after the IOS 5.1 update it freezes when I try to unlock it and it has also frozen at the end of a call meaning I couldn't finish the call. I had to hold both buttons to reset it which doesn't always fix the freeze the first time.Also I have noticed that all my calendar notifications on the dashboard have gone too. No matter what I do with the notifications in the settings the calendar won't appear.
