MacBook Pro :: Spell Checker Is Not Working - Underlines But Doesn't Correct?

My 3yr old was playing a game and when she was done it appears that she was also playing with my Mactop. My spellcheck is not working right, it underlines the word but when I right click nothing happens. The folders on my desktop are all shrunk and I cannot find a way to make them bigger. Most of my Apps are gone from the doc, and when I put them back they are not there when I turn the computer back on. What did she do? Is there a way to 'lock' the computer when she is playinga game on it?

When opening Word 2011 I get a message coming up that spell checker is missing and as a result I can close the dialoge box and use the program. It has been working fine until today.

I have an iMac, my wife and daughter have macbooks. All work OK except that my daughter is unable to have any application do spell checking.
How is spell checking set up? What should I tell my daughter to do to set it up, she is away at Uni so I have to be precise.

I have a 2007 MacBook, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS 10.4.11 (which I got free of charge from a friend who didn't like dealing with the "unrecognized" battery).
I would like to know how to unghost the Spell Checker "learn" button, if that is possible. There does not appear to be an option in the preferences.

On my Macbook running Leopard, I mostly write in French. When the OS is set to French language, the built-in dictionary spell checker is also obviously set to French. But I prefer running the OS itself in English. Is there a way to have the English OS, but the spell checker in French ?

My wife's iMac. Upgraded from Tiger to SL. She tries to reply to email. Spell Checker wants to check every personal name in the original message. She starts telling it to ignore. it will move through first few, then go into Beach Ball and all is hanged up. only way out is to hold down the power switch!

For some reason many of my typing includes double letters not wanted, like a double "i" (ii) as in "askiing". My spell checker does not pickk up on this all the time. Have I told the Mac to ignore double i's or something? I have it set to red-underline mis-spelled words as I type. It has underlined both 'askiing' and 'pickk' words above, but in emails it does not.

I normally use 4 different languages in a day and a spell checker keeps you alert.

I have Snow Leopard, I went to the Dictionary application and changed the preference to "British English (IPA)" but it still checks things like colour as misspelled. is there something I am missing? I went to System Preferences>International and under the Text tap changed spelling to "British English" but still it flags colour as wrong... am I missing something?

I'm having trouble with my late 2013 13" MBPr display, it's displaying low colour spectrum, something like 16 bit colours. I took a photo of my screen right now, and it display something like this. As you can see the cat colour look really washed out and the spectrum doesn't look smooth at all.
Compare to this screen capture that I took (using ctrl-cmd-shift-4), you can see the cat colour is more "life" and the colour spectrum is smooth (I send the screenshot to my iPhone to make sure the screen capture have correct colours).
It's happen after I do an airplay mirroring using Apple TV that connected to HDMI to VGA adapter to my projector. I never do that before, as my apple tv usually connected to my TV.
This are what I already did after that thing happens: reset the NVRAM, try to reconfigure colour profile, restart my MBPr, and nothing happens. But when I try to mirroring either using airplay or direct hdmi connection, the display in other screen are perfectly normal while the display in my MBPr still washed out.

For some reason spell check does not work on my mac. I have Microsoft Word 2004 and as far as I can see I have the spell check on and it should be functioning correctly. No matter how many words I spell incorrectly, I'll hit Check Spelling, and it'll say that there aren't an errors. I click ok and that's it.

For the past few weeks (maybe months) I've been experiencing a problem with my spell check while typing feature. Up until this evening I could even have it checked off in Adium, but after I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5 file (something someone suggested in another thread) the spelling options are all greyed out completely. I have restarted Adium a few times to try to fix it to no avail.
The checker works fine in Safari, but when I use Adium it doesn't work. I found a thread on another site that suggested moving one of the Dictionary files to the desktop, and also holding option, command, p and r down at the same time. That second tip seemed to work a while ago, but since then I can't get it to work again.
I read somewhere that the spell check was messed up because of one of the recent apple updates. I feel like I've had it in other programs too I just can't think of them at the moment.

I'm running Mac OS X (Version 10.5.6) on my PowerBook G4.
My Spell Check in Mail (3.5) hasn't been "Checking as I type," even tho that setting is checked. I've done everything from restarting mail to shutting down my system and completely restarting the computer. That normally works when I've had this problem in the past. Not this time.
What's IS happening, is that Mail is doing a red underline in the first word of every new line of my email messages, even when those words are spelled correctly. However, aside from underlining the first word of each line, other misspelled words -- in the body -- are not being caught.

My spell check is completely broken. It wont correct or highlight misspelled words. I cant even go into the spell check preferences (it's just grayed out). And there's no spell check item in the toolbar, or menu bar.
I came across this thread but the method explained there did not work for me. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

When I started using Firefox with my macbook, If I mispelled a word, It shows a red line under it, and I would double click it and it give me a list of words to choose from. Now it doesnt do this and just gives me the regular right click window.

I have an annoying problem with application switching since I have upgraded to Mac OS Lion from Snow Leopard.Now switching between applications doesn't work as good as it was in Snow Leopard.
Right now I have Finder and Xcode opened. Xcode is assigned to only one specific Desktop and Finder is assigned to None. And when I am in Xcode for example and use Cmd-Tab to switch to Finder, it deactivates my current window, but doesn't move to the space with Finder or makes Finder active. Then, I press Cmd-Tab again, and it makes Finder active (My top panel controls show Finder now) but I still stay in the space with Xcode. And further switching doesn't do anything. So I then need to manually to click on the Finder icon in the Dock. And the same is vice versa when switching from Finder to Xcode.
If I switch by clicking the Finder Dock icon it then works in two steps: first time it deactivates current window, and after second click it moves to Finder Desktop and makes Finder active.
Another issue is with Safari when I am in Fullscreen mode and have also Activity window opened. If I am in Finder and switch with Cmd-Tab to Safari, it just shows me the Activity window in the same Desktop no matter how many times I Cmd-Tab. To switch to Main Safari window I need to click on the Dock icon.If I switch only by clicking the Dock icon, then I again need to click it twice.
Option for moving to space with selected application in Preference Pane is switched on and Automatically rearrangement of last used applications as well.

Well just installed XP on my boot camp partition. Here is my issue:1. The trackpad doesn't seem to be working properly. It's showing under device manager fine but the 2 finger right-click option isn't working. 2. Is the keyboard supposed to be backlit in XP?3. I have bought Macbook Pro last year. Its 2.4 Ghz Intel Core i5 machine with 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3. Of late it used to go to sleep randomly even while working. Last week I took it to Apple store who was not able to diagnose the cause of the problem but as a precautionary measure has changed, as per him, a bus connecting harddrive to the logic board. However the problem was still not solved. Few hours ago suddenly the machine went off and on starting it I found that it is not detecting the batteries. On the battery icon it displays an X, states "no batteries are available" and randomly switches the power source from battery to adapter and back. There is no light on the adapter. [code]

yesterday i bought MIDI keyboards it's M-AUDIO Keystation Mini 32
The problem is that when i connect it to right USB port it works flawlessly, but when i connect it to my left USB port - my macbook pro recognizes the device but it doesn't send any midi data - to put it in other way: it is not working.
I have checked, everything is working fine In the LEFT usb port( wireless mouse, external HDD, Flash drives, Iphone) except my MIDI Keyboard.

I bought an oldish MacBook 13' Unibody (late 2008) and when I got it one of the first things I did was to install Mac OSX Lion.
Everything was working fine, until I applied an update that made the trackpad stop working (it only accepts clicks, no touch is recognized).
This is the "Trackpad Firmware Update" from the automatic updates.
When starting this firmware update it appears a window with a status message, cancel and Update buttons. After clicking the update button, it starts installing, appears to complete, status changes to "Finishing...", and Update button comes back active at some point.
After that I have tried (unsuccessfully):downloading and installing the update directly from Apple Support [URL] thing, but using the 'root' accountleaving the computer on overnight to see if actually "finished" the processReset PRAM PVRAM - [URL] - [URL] palm pressing over 30 seconds on the trackpad (read this on another thread...?)
