OS X :: Finder Internal Network Connectivity With SMB Shares?

I've been having some very odd internal network connectivity issues the last few weeks.First, here's what I'm working with:-1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini running Snow Leopard 10.6.2File server running Windows Server 2008 64bit-Two SMB shares I access from the file server for archive storage and backup purposes from the Mini-All networked together into a Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT v24-sp1
So here's the deal. I can start up the Mini from a fresh boot and access my SMB file shares with no problems at all. The file server is pingable, and I can RDP into it with Remote Desktop. But put the computer to sleep? One third of it breaks--the SMB shares become inaccessible until after a reboot, BUT I can still ping the file server AND I can still RDP into it without any issues. It's for this reason I think it's a Finder-specific issues. It seems to "forget" my SMB shares after putting the computer to sleep, then can't "find" them again.
FWIW, I thought it might be a name resolution issues, so I tried all this using the straight-up IP address but nothing changed. The SMB shares aren't accessible, but I can still ping and RDP into the file server without issue.It's getting very frustrating rebooting my Mac virtually every time I need to access my file archive. It's also makes a consistent backup plan difficult, if not impossible. Oh, and one more data point. I've got a work laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. When the Mac has issues accessing the SMB shares, I can access the file shares just fine (both by hostname and IP address) on the Windows 7 machine.I'm quite at a loss here. I'm contemplating a fresh install here, but not really confident it would make a difference.

So I see all these weird PCs in my Finder, and I wish to not see them at all. I only want to see the Macs. Is there a way to hide PC network shares?

So on my Mac Pro, when I get into my NAS (linux based), the files take like 3 seconds to actually appear in the window after I click on the share. On my Windows 7 machine, that is next to the mac, on the same switch, takes not even a second, it's instant. I have always had an issue that the Mac is slow when browsing network shares. Even if it's another Mac.

I've had this problem going on two months now, so I would not recall what program could be causing it. A cloned share, "eve-2" (the name of my iMac is "Eve") shows up across the network as a PC share. OS is Snow Leopard, fully updated. Model iMac8,1. Screens of finder and running processes attached if it helps.

when I open any network shares on my macs, they will open up but then start expanding certain folders. This keeps happening every time I open them. I have tried compacting them again, but everytime I open them from new it just expands them again.Â

I was working on a clients machine yesterday and he has OS X 10.6.4. For some odd reason the network shares just randomly disappear, also Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (and Reader) crash whenever I attempted to open them.

I've successfully installed XP on my Macbook (Late 2009) and now need to install the drivers to get Network connectivity etc. However I don't have my mac disc at hand as I am away travelling at the moment. Can I download the drivers either from my mac or from the internet to USB, then transfer and install them into XP? I have the latest version of OSX and am up-to-date with everything afaik. Running XP Pro SP 3.

It takes about 2 minutes to have network connectivity after my system starts up. Is this normal for a macpro? I don't have that problem on my macbook pro.
I have the early 2008 release MP. get the network connectivity to start as soon as desktop is displayed like my macbook pro?

I've been using a wireless adapter to connect a PC and a laser printer to my Apple based network. The laser printer is always available but the PC only shows up occasionally. I am not making any changes to cause it to show up when it decides to.

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running Lion. I installed the recommended 2.7 EFI update (which was advised by the system update utility) and after the reboot, I could not access any network resources (couldn't ping the router). The information provided showed that I was connected to the WIFI AP and had a good IP Address (provided via DHCP). I connected an ethernet cable and got a new IP address in both cases, I was unable to ping the gateway IP address.
I tried clearing the PRAM and NVRAM but no success. I booted into the restore console and the wifi access there showed my Time Machine backup (connected to my Airport Extreme). I was confused by this as when fully booted, it wouldn't show anything on the network, but in the restore mode it could. I have begun the process of restoring from the previous backup which will take a few hours.

I know how to disable the displaying of all Bonjour shares using Finder's preferences but how would I go about hiding specific ones independently? I have a bunch of Windows computers and a couple printers on my network that show up and fill up my side bar. I want the few Macs on my network to always be there but it's a nuisance having all the other ones.

I have a home network running 3 PC's(with XP) and 2 Macs (with Tiger OS X 10.4.8). Mysteriously one of my Macs(MacMini) refuses to show a Network icon in the Finder sidebar? I have used the Go > Network menu to try to get a Network icon, but this does work. Yesterday I did a scheduled Mac OS system update, and it seems that since then I have not been able to see/get a Network icon in my Finder.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? PS - I am able to use the old 'GO > Connect to Computer' method, then type in the smb://myOfficePc, and access shared files on other PCs on the network. So networking is configured properly on this MacMini.

So I just received my Nehalem Mac Pro today, and I successfully installed three new hard drives in it, and I can access all four of my drives in Finder, but NONE of them (including the Boot Drive that came with the computer) are showing up on the desktop! I can't figure out why so I thought I'd ask here.
Oddly enough, my Firewire 800 Drive shows up on the desktop. Anyone have any ideas why this would happen? And how to fix it?

I have 4 Mac's in my household, 2 MBP's, a Mac Pro ,and a Mac Mini. I can find the Mac Pro and both MBP's on Back to my Mac but the problem is with the Mac Mini.I am able to see any of the computers from the Mac Mini but the Mac Mini won't show up on any of the computers. This would be the case using Back to My Mac and won't even work on the Finder within the home network. The Mac Mini simply won't show up in the Finder.
I have Leopard on the system with the latest updates and have gone through the settings and can't find anything that is turned off.

I hope that this post is original, but if not I apologize. I did some searching, but found nothing specifically in the area where I'm having networking problems.First, I very much enjoy using the newest MacMini (10.6). I got it a few months ago, and have been slowly migrating from Windows. This is where I am having difficulty solving an issue.
In the beginning I was able to network the three computers I have together and was able to "see" the two windows machines in the Finder under "network"; the laptop (Vista) and the desktop (XP). Soon there after, the Finder stopped listing the two windows machines in the Finder's "network" category. The odd thing about this issue is that by this point in time I was able to "see" the Mac from both Windows machines (dragging files from windows to the mac), but not the other way around.
Now, and the reason for this post, neither lists each other (Mac vs. Windows). I can still "see" the windows machines from each other's Explorer, but alas not the Mac.To wade through allot of questions that may crop up, I have gone through all three machine's networking "sharing" setups, and I cannot locate where the problem lies. I can also use the networking utility from the Mac and be able to "ping" the other machines. I can use Safari and "address" (http) pages from the machines, but nothing in the way of "drag-n-drop" files from the Finder.I greatly appreciate this forum, and in other areas I was able to solve other issues.

Have become aware that the Network Folder is not showing up in the Finder Sidebar.
Have attempted to select the Network folder and use the 'Add to sidebar' but the Add function is greyed out when selecting the network folder,
The network folder used to be in the sidebar so not sure what happened.

(I think) but here we have a NAS (Network Access Storage) that everyone can access. Anyways, on a PC you go to network under my computer (or just computer or 7 now) and in there it is listed along with the other computers on the network. That's all good. On the Mac side you can see it as well, and that's all good. Here is what I am trying to figure out; on a pc in the computer navigation bar you can type addresses. For example the drive was not popping up earlier under the "network", so I just type "//DriveName" into the bar and it opened it up as if I had clicked it.

Network Section in Finder shows "nstest.tzo.com". I've never used any service at this address or installed any questionable programs. Has anyone ever seen this sort of thing appear in their networks or know could I get rid of it? Spotlight search shows nothing except the google searches I did once I saw the entry.

Wondering if there's a way to make the "Copy" window that pops up show KB/sec or MB/sec transfer rate when transferring files from computer to computer or via wireless to a computer on my network.
I feel like I've seen screen shots of people copying files over a network with that information displayed.

Is it possible to keep a folder from a network as a favorite in the Finder Sidebar, even after the networked computer has been restarted? In the course of the week, the folders I place in my favorites remain (we keep our computers on all week), but we shut down on the weekends, so come Monday morning, all of the networked folders are absent from the sidebar. I'm attempting a work-around by creating folders in my user/Home that then have aliases of the respective folders, then placing that in the sidebar, but I'd love to avoid this work-around.Â
I'm on a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac, but the computer I'm trying to remain linked/favorited to is a 2.8 GHz Quad Core tower (both running Yosemite).

After downloading a few new apps tonight, both off the App Store and Safari, I noticed that s6761bm0t3r1 had been newly listed under shared.
One of the apps i downloaded ended up changing my homepage and search engine which was annoying but not too unusual.
After changing things back to usual I went to look through finder to see if anything unwanted had been downloaded and that's when i noticed it. I know it's not my printer because i turned my printer on and it showed up under a different nameI have never had any other machines connect like this to my mac that i know of besides my printerWhen i try to click more info it just keeps on fetching and won't show anythingWhen i try to double click on it it tries to connect and soon after says Connection failedI don't know if it's from something i downloaded but I first noticed it immediately afterwards so I'm thinking it is

The AFP and SMB shares provided by my machine (OSX 10.6.5) seem to be messed up. Specifically:
1) There are shares which are visible from other machines which do not exist in System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing
2) There are share listed in System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing which cannot be deleted
How can this be cleaned up? What drives the set of shares? /var/db/samba/smb.shares is clearly a generated file. What generates it?

I have a number of shares on my NAS that I have linked in my login items, and when I log into OSX I get these on my desktop. The "server" is "afp://NASNAME(AFP)._afpovertcp._tcp.local/SHARENAME". This has worked great for ages, and all that happened when I logged into OSX was that these shares got an icon on the desktop. However, since the "upgrade" to 10.5.8, these shares open up when I log in. This is so irritating; I do not want these shares to open up, just to have an icon on the desktop. What "feature" did Apple screw around with, and what can I do to get back to status quo?

Basically, I'm trying to get all of the files off a hfs partition on an external harddrive so that I can reformat the drive. The problem is that my Windows machine is the only one with enough space to do this, and, of course, Windows cannot see the hfs partition, and I can't remove it. So I've been trying to copy the files from my Macbook Pro across the network. Unfortunately, this is the part that has proven difficult. My Windows machine does not show up in the list of shares in Finder, so I need to use Go > Connect to Server. While this works initially after first booting up.
It seems to disconnect after a few minutes and all attempts to reconnect just display a connecting box for a short while, and then an error message; "Connection Failed. There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address and try again." I can ping my Windows machine, so there is nothing wrong with the IP, or the connection on a basic level, but for some reason I cannot connect. I've tried disabling Firewalls on both machines, and that hasn't helped. One thing I did notice is that the connection seems to remain stable as long as I do not access the network on my Windows machine. For instance, earlier this evening it disconnected as soon as I tried to use the internet.

I would like some software (can be web based) for tracking trends, making predictions, possibly buying through the software. I'd prefer Mac Compatible software but if there is good windows software I'd like to hear about that too. What do the 'professionals' use? Is that either very expensive or bespoke?

I'm using Viscosity to connect to our VPN at work. I'm able to establish a connection just fine, but I have a few issues. It appears to be assigning me a local IP address; however, I'm unable to ping the gateway. I'm also unable to ping the local Samba domain.

On my MacBook Pro I have set up a bunch of shares to mount upon login. They then are presented by icons on the desktop, all using server "afp://BMK-rnp (AFP)._afpovertco._tcp.local/SHARE NAME". The shares are hosted on my Infrant/NetGear ReadyNAS Pro, which uses the AFP protocol, and advertises the AFP service over Bonjour. However, when I have had the MBP sleeping for a few hours, not just a few minutes, and I open it back up, it has lost the connection to the shares. I get a message that the server is unavailable, and that the shares are disconnected. I can't do anything about it, except disconnect the shares in the pop-up, open up finder, and click on the "BMK-rnp (AFP)" icon under shared, and then reconnect to the shares. Is there a way, using std. OSX tools, to "re-connect" to the shares? I have tried a small utility - "Bounjour Mounter" - but I never got it working right.
