I've tried resetting the router and various other things that I found on the internet. I know its not a router problem as I am using my MBP to post this discussion. It won't even connect to the router's internap page.

My boyfriend is using a 2 week old MacBook Pro on OS X Lion (10.7.3).
He came in from work and was using it on the internet with no problems, it had spent the whole day downloading a patch for WOW from Blizzard... However, suddenly, he asked Safari to open a new page and BAM! Safari cannot connect to the server. It cannot connect to any website, iTunes store cannot connect, Blizzard updater keeps complaining that it has lost the internet connection, so it's not just a Safari issue.
We've checked the network connections and everything is fine, Network Diagnostics says there is nothing wrong. We've reset Safari, rebooted the Mac, rebooted the AirPort, deleted the network connection and added it again... no joy. Also we've plugged the Mac into an ethernet cable and it is still the same, so not an AirPort issue either. I'm using a MacBook on the same network, so it's not the network.
I think it's something wrong in his network settings

previously the MBP used to log in no problem. Hard disk went, Apple installed new hard disk, we installed OS Lion and now it will not connect to a windows based server, what can be done

After the re install i was unable to get my wireless internet to work. It worked 100% before i had the crash, all other pc's still work wirelessly. Here is a little rundown of my situation.
1. I can connect to my network with a full strength singnal.
2. I can't connect to the internet through the network.
3. I had it working before i had to reinstall my os
4. My dads powerbook, my windows pc, my ipod touch, all work wirelessly still through the network.
I tried to copy setting from the powerbook but it has tiger and im running leopard it does not have the same options. I connect using PPPOE but when using the assistant it will either,
1. keep telling me to reboot the modem (nothing found)
or
2. cant find pppoe host (Im with sympatico - canada DSL)
one of the coffee shops that i frequent has wifi, and recently i haven't been able to get online. it says i am connected to the network will full strength, but am not connected to the internet. i even bought my ipod touch tonight to check, and it worked just fine. everyone around me is surfing as usual... why am i experiencing this? it's been this way for a few weeks now. did they somehow block me from connecting?

i am trying to hook up a mac mini to a local wireless network (airport express) so that i can access a shared iTunes library but i do not want the mac mini to be able to access the internet (other macs on the network need to be able to access the internet). is there a way to change the settings on the mac mini so that this is possible?

I have the new 15 MBP and just installed windows vista 32bit on bootcamp 3.0. I cant get connect with my internet wireless or ethernet. It states that I need a network adapter NIC. Where can I go to download it? also the sound problem as well, no sound in windows. What steps to take???

I can see that i'm connected to the network in windows and the mac and i can access the internet in both. We have 3 computers in the network, two are PC's and one is the macbook. When the PC creates a game in the same network, the other PC can see the game and join it. But the mac, which is connected to the same network, can't see the game and cannot join. How can I fix this network problem?

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter more than 5 years of having to constantly reboot my router because of lost connections to the Internet, I thought it would be time for a change. So I purchased a new Netgear router that works great with my mobile devices, including a PC notebook I have on my home network. (I should note that while all the other devices on my home network would lose their connection, the iMac somehow never did.)
However, when it came time to connect my iMac G4 I ran into some trouble. The iMac recognizes the new router and the WiFi signal strength is perfect, but I was unable to connect to the Internet. I opened the Network utility in Preferences to try to check the settings, and the following error message appeared:
<<Your network settings have been changed by another application.>>
What happens is, even though I click OK to clear the message, it keeps on reappearing on an endless loop; the only way out is to Force Quit the Network utility. Although this problem occurred with my older router, I was still able to connect to the Web; now I can't.

I have a iMac G4 I'm trying to restore so I can browse the web and do simple word processing with. It currently has OS X 10.4.11 on it. It won't connect to a WPA network, but it will connect to a WEP network. Is this an issue with the Airport card or with Tiger. Should I upgrade to OS X 10.5?

My mother-in-law has an old Blueberry iMac which works ok except it won't connect to the internet/LAN. It is the computer, because the cable that used to connect the iMac to the internet is currently connected to a different computer and it works perfectly. The iMac runs Mac OSX 10.3.9. Of late she cannot get connected unless she brings it down to next to the router, and often dosen't work unless she plugs in the ethernet cable.
My wireless connection from my iMac to my AT&T router was working fine. Recently my 27" iMac (using Snow Leopard 10.6.8) cannot connect to the internet.The IP automatically getting assigned (using DHCP) is 169.254.21.210.The AT&T router is also connected to a Windows 7 PC and that is connecting to the internet without an issue. The IP that should be getting asigned is: 192.168.I am typing this "issue" using my daughters Mac Book Pro which is next to the iMac that has the connection issue. Obviously the Mac Book Pro is working fine. Shouldn't be a location issue. Also have used 2 other Mac Book Pros successfully as well as a Windows laptop from work. All work fine. Just the iMac is not working. Have setup the network connection again to no avail. I have used the Network "Assist me" option with no success.I also connected an Airport Extreme Base Station to the AT&T router with hopes of connecting.The iMac sees the Base Station (and also the AT&T router) but fails to connect to my ISP.Does anone have some experience in this area? Why is the Mac assigning a 169.254... ip address?

I am trying to connect my new iMac (Leopard OS) to a PC running Windows XP Home Edition using the wireless router. I have the PC connected to the internet via modem/router (supplied by Aliant, the SpeedStream 6520). I have been able to "get on" the internet with iMac using the wireless router. However, I can't get the PC and iMac to connect together over the wireless router inorder to share files etc. On the PC side:
1) I disabled the Windows firewall
2) have set up and named a sharing folder
3) have set up a "work group" name
4) believe I have the correct user name and password
5) not sure about the "network" name, (?SSID) information.
6) have a # with several periods in it that I don't know if this is the computer ID, IP address, or one of the above items, or if they are all one and the same.
On the iMac side:
1) have the IP address of the iMac
2) I have tried "connect to server" but am unable
3) I have never been able to see a "shared" section on the left side of the finder screen.
I have read the thread by "edesignuk". However I did not "put your mac in the same workgroup as your windows PC" as I couldn't find the correct screens on the iMac, and also in phone discussion with Apple help they said they had never done that and advised against it!
I would like to connect my IMAC to my tv. I tried using a home network, but the samsung tv I have does not recognize most of the files, plus the internet apps suck big time.(only netflix is kind of good) So I was then thinking to get a mac mini and just but ay 1000$ it doe snot solve my needs. So I am looking for something to wireless stream the video from my imac to the tv. So it would mini dvi to hdmi - then box with HDMI input to stream to another box with HDMI output connected to my tv. It would also need to stream the audio. Is there anyway to just use the network connection and just hack into the tv?

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I got my new iMac 21,5'. After starting it up, the airport would not work. The open network (not password protected) was detected, but every attempt to connect to it ended with a "timed out" error message. I tried to deactivate and reactivate the airport a few times. With no luck. Both my iphone and a cheap netbook would get a valid connection in the meantime. So it's not a network issue.
It's a d-link router and it's about half a meter from the imac. My previous macbook with tiger worked perfectly with this connection. I tried to change the wireless channel from 7 to 6 and this did not solve the issue. Or at least not right away. I tried again after say 15 minutes, and it worked. However, tried again in the morning, and got the "timed out" error message one more time. I have installed the airport software update

Yet am worried that as I am connected to (given I needed no password to access) is a relatively insecure network, I am leaving myself open to hackers. Is this the case? And if so, what methods can I go to so I can protect myself from potential intrusion (already unchecked all boxes in sharing folder and switched on the firewall)
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy father in law had a power failure at the house, and since then, he cannot connect to the internet via DSL Modem connected via ethernet cable. Being that he is 1000 miles away, I am trying to diagnose via phone. System Info: Imac 17", purchased new around 2006- Intel chip, running Tiger OS
Symptoms:
- Cannot connect via ethernet
- When searching system profiler, "Built-in Ethernet" shows up, but no MAC address
- In Network settings, he can see the various connection ports, but cannot check the box on "Built-in Ethernet" to turn the port on... won't let him.
- Wireless is not an option, I don't want to be 24/7 tech support
Diagnosis? I am thinking that the power surge may have fried the ethernet port on the motherboard.
Repair Solution: Planning on picking up the Apple USB Ethernet adapter. I know it doesn't have the correct drivers to run on Tiger, but found a driver online that claims it allows use of the usb adapter on Panther on up.
Questions - Does this sound like a fried ethernet port? Any other easy diagnostic tests I can do? Does the USB adapter sounds like a decent solution?
One fine day, my iMac running Mavericks 10.9.2 has stopped connecting to internet over WiFi. it is self assigning an IP to itself and refuses to do a DHCP handshake with my router. My other wifi devices can connect to this network without any issues. So us the same iMac when it runs Windows 8.1 on the boot camp partition. I have tried the following fixes, but to no avail:
1. Delete the location
2. Delete networks
3. Reset DHCP
4. Restore Mac to a previous restore point where it used to connect to internet without any issues.
