OS X :: Files In Finder Have Text In Middle Of Icon
Aug 7, 2010Alright so the easiest way to explain this is with a picture, in the picture the labels are obviously too high, and I would like them to be in the normal place.

View 4 RepliesRecently I noticed icons of mp3 files are no longer as used to be in finder. Previously I had a dark music note icon and when i hover my mouse there was a play button. Now I only see itunes icon in mp3 files. "Show Icon Preview" option is enabled, and i can preview image and pdf files in finder. But something happened to the mp3 files. get back the good old icon preview for mp3 files.

I recently changed my Finder icon by replacing the .icns files in my CoreServices folder. The icon appears as it should in dialog boxes, but doesn't show up at all in the Dock. Instead there's just a blank space where it's supposed to be. It's still perfectly functional, but annoying. :-S
I've tried logging out/restarting, reseting the dock, deleting the dock plist, and creating a new user account (it's still missing on the new account). I'm running out of things to try, does anyone have a suggestion?
I was normally using my Mac, as usual, when it suddenly crashed. The screen froze up and this icon showed up in the middle...A few minute later, it was still there so I had to force restart my mac. But when it started again, the image of a flashing folder with a question mark appeared. I googled a bit what it could mean, and I quickly found it was something about directory corruption. I tried to open the disk utility as advised to check if the disk was damaged, however it said the disk was alright, and it didn't give me the option to repair it. So now I'm stuck in the disk utility, and my only options are:
- Use time machine (I didn't save my data using it so useless)
- Reinstall OS X (Deleting all my content - exactly what I want to avoid)
- Repair the Disk (Which I can't even do)
So my main question is, is there a way I can get back all my files/data before reinstalling OSX? Are there other ways to repair what is broken without resetting my whole comp? Is it even possible that your mac crashes at any moment, making you lose EVERYTHING for no reason?

Today I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use. When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?
Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now. When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy icons are disappearing. Apps I download dont have icons and when I throw them in the trash the trash icon on the dock disappears. Also, when I plug in a flash drive or external drive, no icon shows up, just text. My folders that have custom icons are blank now too. How do I fix this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just two icons on my desktop, like this. That's all very nice, but I'd rather there was no text under them and that they looked like this. I'm sure you'll agree that it looks much prettier, but of course it's a mockup. Can I do this for real without using the trick of renaming the drives to be *space* ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs the title suggests, I would like to remove the drop shadow plaguing the icon text on a white background.
This could easily be done with Windows but I'm struggling to find the OSX equivalent.
Coloured labels don't cut it as they don't apply to folder descriptions and don't come in white.
I've just been browsing the net with safari and all the text on the screen and finder bar above has gone smaller, like, straining your eyes small.

Not sure if this is new with Safari 5 or has always been there.
In Leopard the Finder sidebar text was always too small. Is there a way to control the font size in Snow Leopard, maybe through the Terminal if anyone knows? Apple made everything else resizable in the new Finder but I can't figure out the sidebar text.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn some of my folders, the inside folders appear to be blank and have no text. When I click on the folder icon, the name of the folder is there, but there appears to be a hard return at the end of the text. When I delete the hard return, the text becomes visible.
Rather than go to each folder and do this - why this is happening, and how to correct all the folders wherever they may be on any disk.
My finder window is messed up graphically. My MBP hangs or freezes. I recently migrated my files and software from my older 2005 MBP running 10.5.8.

How do you set up Finder so that the file list shows the location. Right now all it shows is Name, Kind and Last Opened. And, I have to rightclick on the file to find its location.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe finder icon on my iMac desktop has what can best be described as a "half shaded box" on the top half of it. Its somewhat transparent, but there nonetheless.Asked my local apple geek and he never heard of it.I suspect it is user specific as it doesn't show up on any other accounts on the computer.

So I was trying to customize my dock and I downloaded CandyBar. After choosing a new Finder icon it asked me to log out to apply changes, when I logged back in my finder icon was gone. I went to CandyBar and clicked restore but it told me I never made any backup. I scrolled to where the original window to change the icon was (next to trash can etc) and the window to change it had also disappeared. Any advice on how to restore my Finder icon manually?
A few days ago i started up my mac! Everything was the same, nothing changed except the icon of the finder!see picture?

I am a novice on the Mac (OS X 10.6). My mail icon is Gone! Don't ask. I went through the finder, nothing. Any other advice to locate it before I have to re-install my OS? If I have to do that, anything in particular I have to do / don't do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a folder in Finder with a large amount of images (4,500 photos), I cannot right-click these icons; when I do right-click a selected icon, it deselects it, and the right-click menu reverts to the menu that would show up as if I clicked the background of the finder. Since this only happens in this folder, and I can click on desktop icons in another Finder window simultaneously, does this mean it is memory issue in that particular window or something? I am trying to organize this massive folder (move to trash, copy, etc) and having to go up to the file menu to do this can get pretty time consuming.

I lost my icon of my Finder in my Dock, the icon seem to be fine for the Finder.app and permission too.
I posted on my blog [URL] an article on the origin of the icon in the Finder. Mine is a guess, but I do not know whether just or not, also because I do not know if it is a common knowledge or that nobody has noticed.
