Suddenly, after awaking my MacBook from sleep, this bluetooth icon has appeared in my menu bar. I didn't change any settings or install anything new recently and I just want to get it off of there. When clicked the option it gives is grayed-out "Bluetooth: Not Available". Does anyone know how I can get this icon off of there?

I am currently running Mac OS X v10.6.5 on my MacBook Pro. Recently, everytime I restart I get an icon for "starfield update." The folder is located in my Applications folder but I don't know where it came from. A Google search didn't turn anything up. I can't close the app I have to force it closed. Is this something that should exist on my machine or is it some sort of malware?

According to my lil bro, the computer landed screen down. Now whenever he tries booting his Mac, a folder icon appears on the screen and the HDD makes a continuous skipping noise. I'm guessing a new HDD will fix the problem?

I am running a show and have a computer in front of me and the second display is appearing on a large screen on stage where I cannot see it. When I click on a folder on the desktop it opens the window on the second screen instead of on the one on my computer. When I Mirror Displays it appears again on the computer, but when I turn it off (it has to be turned off when I run the show) the window opens in the second screen. I have restarted, reset the PRAM, don't know how to get the window to appear on the primary screen..

I am having a strange problem with image thumbnails not appearing in Finder. I am editing some very large TIF files on a Macbook that is running Lion. These images are edited on an external drive, and when I hook the drive up to my main iMac, which is running Leopard, the new images I have created in Lion do not have thumbnails. The only way that they will appear is if I open the images in Photoshop and just resave them on the machine running Leopard. This method poses a problem because each image takes about 5-8 minutes to open, and another 5-8 to save. I have hundreds of images and don't have the time to do that to each one.

These have been appearing for a while in my shared column in Finder as 'PC Servers' - I'm aware they're duplicate references for my actual computers but how do I remove them?

Well, I've never seen this before. I did not (intentionally) connect to this server listed under Shared in the sidebar... so where did it come from and how can I ditch it? Get Info only tells me it's a PC server
My file sharing is turned off, etc. Little Snitch is not flagging any unexpected network activity. I'm very puzzled.

Today I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use. When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?

Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now. When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

My screen shots are no longer appearing on my desktop as preferred but instead are going to ' all files' in Finder.
I must have changed a setting but can't figure out what I did to cause it.

I have ~800 GB of data on an internal hard drive on the PC, but I have to get it all to an external hard drive (2 TB) formatted as HFS+ so it'll play nicely with OS X. CliffNotes: 800GB, NTFS internal to 2 TB external. HALP.

I am running SL on an aluminum MBP 13". Under "Shared" there is an "All..." button, when I click on it there is a website listed of type "Neighbourhood". I have never been to this website, so I don't know why it would be there?
If I double click on it, it is just blank. All kind of sharing is turned off (including web sharing). If I go into the "get info" of the item, basically all information is blank.

This may seem like a really silly question, but how do you change the icon for finder? I can't seem to get to the 'get info' bit to change it. I can do it for everything else, just not finder!

The finder icon on my iMac desktop has what can best be described as a "half shaded box" on the top half of it. Its somewhat transparent, but there nonetheless.Asked my local apple geek and he never heard of it.I suspect it is user specific as it doesn't show up on any other accounts on the computer.

Let me preface that I'm new to the whole mac thing.
So I was trying to customize my dock and I downloaded CandyBar. After choosing a new Finder icon it asked me to log out to apply changes, when I logged back in my finder icon was gone. I went to CandyBar and clicked restore but it told me I never made any backup. I scrolled to where the original window to change the icon was (next to trash can etc) and the window to change it had also disappeared. Any advice on how to restore my Finder icon manually?

I am a novice on the Mac (OS X 10.6). My mail icon is Gone! Don't ask. I went through the finder, nothing. Any other advice to locate it before I have to re-install my OS? If I have to do that, anything in particular I have to do / don't do?

When I open a folder in Finder with a large amount of images (4,500 photos), I cannot right-click these icons; when I do right-click a selected icon, it deselects it, and the right-click menu reverts to the menu that would show up as if I clicked the background of the finder. Since this only happens in this folder, and I can click on desktop icons in another Finder window simultaneously, does this mean it is memory issue in that particular window or something? I am trying to organize this massive folder (move to trash, copy, etc) and having to go up to the file menu to do this can get pretty time consuming.

I posted on my blog [URL] an article on the origin of the icon in the Finder. Mine is a guess, but I do not know whether just or not, also because I do not know if it is a common knowledge or that nobody has noticed.
