Applications :: Changing Office 2004 Microsoft User Data Folder Location?

Sep 19, 2006

It really ***** me that Office 2004 places the Microsoft User Data folder in your Users/Accountname/Documents folder, and if you move it it just makes a new one Is there any reliable way to move the location to somewhere else and keep it that way? The Documents folder should be the realm of the user and the user alone, damn applications should keep their noses out!

Applications :: Move "Microsoft User Data" Of Office 2011 Out Of User "Document" Folder

Nov 19, 2010

In Office 2008, you can move "Microsoft User Data" in "Documents" folder to "~/Library/Preferences/".
In office 2011, this trick does not work. Whenever I move "Microsoft User Data" to "~/Library/Preferences/", it will be re-created in "Documents" again.

OS X :: Changing User Folder/subfolders Location To Other Partition?

Feb 17, 2010

I just installed a new harddrive and I made 2 partitions. One for my system, preferences and installed programs and one for my files.

The problem comes when i put things on my desktop or download stuff. These folders are on my system partition and when i download or save to the desktop temporarely, i have to copy the files later to my other partition and delete the original.

It would save me a lot of time if downloaded files and files saved to the desktop are written on my documents partition.

hence the question: is there any way to change your desktop and downloads folder location to another location/drive?

OS X :: How To Hide Microsoft User Data Folder

Feb 12, 2010

I'd like to hide the Microsoft User Data folder because I find it annoying in the Documents folder. I'd like to hide it from view within finder, but I still want MS Office to be able to access it (i.e. I can't rename it with a dot in front of its name or hide it in any way that would also disable access to the folder).

Software :: Microsoft Updates Office 2004 And Office 2008 For Mac

Aug 12, 2008

Microsoft on Tuesday released stability and performance updates for Office 2004 and Office 2008 for Mac, both of which also patch vulnerabilities that could allow an attacker to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory by using malicious code.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update

Aside from the security fix, Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update [14.5MB] also updates the Japanese postal code dictionary in Entourage and fixes an issue that causes Word 2004 to close unexpectedly when opening a document that contains a numbered list.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.2 Update

The 12.1.2 update for Office 2008 for Mac [159.6MB] is more substantial, repairing a global issue that prevented all Office 2008 applications from running AppleScript scripts from the Script menu, while also delivering a number of individual fixes for Word, Excel and Entourage.

More specifically, Microsoft said Word should now launch more quickly and tables will no longer included random instances of bold text. Other changes improve the display of form fields and the reliability of headers & footers in the word processing application.

Meanwhile, Excel should now open spreadsheet files that contain invalid characters and see improvements to the overall performance of calculations. Number formatting for some international languages and stability when saving workbooks that contain PivotTable reports has also been improved.

One of the major focus areas for Entourage was to improve stability when using Microsoft Sync Services, Microsoft said. In particular, Tuesday's update fixes an issue that where all contacts in Entourage or in the Apple Address Book would be deleted and re-created when you use Microsoft Sync Services. It should also prevent duplication of events and other items in Entourage or in iCal.

Other changes to Entourage focused on improving junk mail filtering, recurring calendar events, time zone information, embedded images, and the reliability when Entourage establishes a encrypted channel.

Student Office 2008 deal

Earlier Tuesday, Microsoft said it has teamed with a select few Apple authorized resellers like Amazon.com to offer students up to 30 percent off its various Office 2008 productivity suites when they're purchased alongside a new Mac before September 8th.

The offer translates into $15 off Office 2008 Home and Student Edition, $80 off Office 2008 Standard Edition, and $150 off Office 2008 Special Media Edition..

Amazon is also offering between $50 and $200 rebates on Apple's entire Mac line through August 25th.

OS X :: Hiding Microsoft User Data Mandatory Folder?

Oct 3, 2008

I'm looking to hide a few things on my system that are cluttering up certain areas. I'm a little OCD about how my files are organized and I've noticed some applications Microsoft Office 2008 create mandatory folders and I can't delete them.. so I've picked the next best thing: Making them invisible! Because the application(s) requires a specific file path I can't simply add the "." prefix to the folder. I believe there is a terminal command to add the folder to a list of invisible items but I can't pull up how to do this. I've been searching google for about an hour now. Here is what I've tried and I think I'm close. My goal is to hide the "Microsoft User Data" folder.
Terminal: cd /Users/Kyle/Documents/Microsoft User Data/pico.hidden

OS X :: Microsoft Office 2004 Security Update Error

Aug 13, 2010

Downloaded latest MS Office 2004 Security Update 11.6.0, and it has poisoned my entire Office suite of apps. Since loading, I cannot access Entourage, Word, or any other Office apps. Error messages pop up repeatedly every time I try to open them. "MS Office library files may have been moved from original location. Reinstall Entourage, etc." For the last 6 years, this software and previous updates have worked flawlessly. This really stinks!!! Do I reload original software over the top of the existing apps., or is there another easier work around that I can use to get back into my MS Office apps.? I am running OS 10.4.11 Tiger with older Power PC processor.

Software :: Microsoft Office 2004 & Entourage Corrupted DB?

Sep 17, 2007

My Entourage 2004 DB is corrupted. The database utility tool is unable to repair it. It gives me an error "an I/O error has occurred". I tried EntourAid and that doesn't work either. When the repair starts, it soon crashes the app with an error -36.

Microsoft Word gives me an error "unable to load Microsoft Framework Library". Not sure if this is related.

Have already repaired permissions, run Onyx, EntourAid, etc.

Applications :: Getting Black Microsoft Office 2011 Folder In Dock?

I saw the black folder that it comes with in the dock of a computer in my local Apple store and thought it looked really good. But now I'm trying to do this myself and when I drag the folder to the dock, it changes it to some other blue folder with an icon sticking out of it. It'll also only let me drag it to the side of the dock with the trash can.

Applications :: Office 2004 Versus Office 2008

May 31, 2010

So here is my dilemma. I got a letter a few days ago from the college I am going to, and it included a list of requirements if we were bringing our own computer. One of the requirements was if we had a Mac, to have Office 2008. I have talked to a friend who is replacing her current Macbook with another Macbook later in the summer, and we decided that when she bought her Macbook, that we could split the price of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Now, should I just go ahead and continue on with the plan with my friend, or what? Is there a huge difference in Office 2004 and Office 2008?

When I open up any of my folders from my desktop (Macintosh HD, My Documents) the folder is on the far right of the screen with about a quarter of it off the screen. It gets annoying to have to drag it onto the screen every time, then as soon as I quit and open it back up, it's back in that spot.

OS X :: User Data Location - Leopard - Drive Failing And Trying To Recover?

Jul 6, 2009

I replaced my daughters drive in her Macbook last fall. The move went without any issue and she had an additional 100GB after the upgrade.

Now it appears the drive is dying. It won't boot to get to the login - it gets to the blue screen and mouse cursor in the upper left, then circular spinning countdown in the center, then repeat, then hang at the blue screen. I can hear the drive making a repeated winding/reading type of noise when it gets to the point where the login should be coming up.

Here's what I've done so far:

- I've tried booting off the Leopard disk and verified disk - it passed.
- I also repaired permissions - it repaired about 2 dozen and passed as well.
- I've reset the pram with no impact
- It won't boot in safe mode - keeps getting some flashing text at the top and won't complete the boot.
- I took the drive out and ran Spinrite 6 on it - it got to about 53% and it started making the noise like it was stuck at the blue screen at Leopard bootup. It ran for 3 hours and the drive eventually passed with nothing fixed and no errors found.
- I'm afraid to try an archive and install since I think the drive is failing

So here is what I'm going to do.

- Purchase replacement drive and do a clean Leopard install
- Put the existing failing drive in my USB powered enclosure

I don't have a time machine backup to work from.

Now my question is where is my daughters user data and system files? She is the only user on the Macbook. Once I find them and bring them over - barring any other issues - where do I put them on the new drive/Leopard install and make her desktop, user data, music, photos, network settings, and apps the same again - like it would be with an archive and install? Is it as simple as copying over a user folder or series of folders? What about user login - does it have to be the same or does that come with copying the folders/data over.

Applications :: When Microsoft Releasing Newer Version Of Microsoft Office For Mac?

Oct 2, 2009

Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

OS X Mavericks :: Dropbox Won't Start After Moving Location Of User Folder

Jun 4, 2014

I have a mid 2011 iMac running latest version of Mavericks. I recently purchased an external thunderbolt SSD and cloned my boot HD to it, excluding the user folders as these are too big for the SSD and will remain on the internal HDD, and made it the start disk. Then, once booted with the SSD, I went into users settings and mapped my user to the user folder location on the internal HDD. I then rebooted.

After the reboot everything is working just fine with the exception of Dropbox which first asks for my Mac user account password and then returns the following error and closes the app: Couldn't start DropboxThis is usually because of permissions error. Errors can also be caused by your home folder being stored on a network share.

I see involve going into the preferences in the Dropbox application and clicking the button to repair permissions, but I can't get to that because the application just quits. If I reboot using the internal HDD again I can get the application to load just fine.

Applications :: Microsoft Excel 2004 Not Open In Leopard

May 14, 2008

I'm getting a weird error when I try to open Microsoft Excel 2004. "You can't open the application "Microsoft Excel" because the Classic environment is no longer supported."

1. Excel used to work just fine (I'm not sure if I've used it since I upgraded to Leopard)
2. I've seen other people say on forums that the MS Office 2004 suite works fine with Leopard
3. As far as I know the Classic environment was phased out in Leopard, though I don't think I've ever used the classic environment
4. All my other MS Office Apps work

I'm not having much luck with google, hopefully it's a dumb configuration thing that I don't know about.
