Can anyone explain how to convert the default Adobe Acrobat File Icon to a custom Image?
I have created a PDF of a showreel (Text + Images) and want the user to see one of these images when they have the PDF Icon on their desktop etc.
PS: I'm running OSX 10.4.11 Tiger on a Powerbook G4. I use either Keynote or Powerpoint to create PDF's.
Tried a search but not be lucky so hoping someone out there has solved this one before.....
Been trying to change some of the default icons Apple provide with third party .icns files by opening the folder info window in finder by using the 'get info' command, then clicking the icon in the top left hand corner (so it is has the tiny blue halo) and then edit-paste in the new icon. Sometimes it works (have changed some successfully) but now when I try, instead of the pasted icon displaying the icon image, I get the generic or default icon image for an icns icon displayed, see the screen grab attachment for what I mean
Can anyone advise me as to whats not working correctly?
I can easily change the icon of my HD, or any other application using CandyBar or LiteIcon but these prgrams do not allow me to change standard folders and that's mainly what I want to change.
CandyBar & LiteIcon even allow me to change the "applications" folder, "Documents" and "Downloads", etc... but I havent had any luck with the cliche standard blue folders.
I have chage my icon by using a software called CandyBar. I want to change it back to default icon ..I have tried the easiest way, but it doesnt work.

I use change my icons, at least the dock ones to make them look uniform. I usually manually change them, (copy, ctrl+i, paste) but for ical I had a problem. I did the normal routine and it did work. It changed the icon to what I wanted, until I opened the program. Then it changed it back to the default icon. So I used Candybar to do the samething, and the same thing happened. I did this for about 20 icons or so, and they all changed, except for ical. Well it did change initally but when I opened it, it reverted.
View 20 Replies View RelatedAt some point I changed the appearance of my PDF icons from the default red and white Adobe PDF image to where the PDF icons show a little image of the front cover of the PDF. Now I would like to change all of my PDF icons back to the default red and white Adobe Reader icon. Does anyone know how to do that please? I have Googled this and see instructions for how to change from the Adobe default to custom but can't figure out how to reverse that.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been playing with Photo Booth on my new Mac, and most of the effects work. However, when I try the background effects (included and custom) the back ground image is not showing in the background, but instead in parts of the picture I'm trying to capture. Is there a way to adjust those settings?

custom icons don't show up. I try to put a custom icon on a folder and it comes up the filetype it is. Like if it's an Apple icon I'm putting on a folder, it will just show .ICNS on top of "Preview" app icon.I know how to change the icon, right click, get info and drag the new icon where the current one is in the info box, so whats up?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've changed my stack folder from its default icon so I can recognize what's in it i.e. Microsoft Office 2008. But in order to do this, I've needed to create a folder and have it appear first i.e. 0_Icon_Microsoft_Office_2008 How do I hide this folder? Quite annoying to see this folder as it's sole purpose is for changing the icon pic. And if I hide it, will the system recognize this folder for custom icon purposes?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of Windows systems on my home network, and it gets a bit confusing when I've got 2 mounted volumes on my desktop both called "Users", as it's not possible to see which one relates to which PC.
Is it possible to use a custom icon for a particular volume so I can visually differentiate between the two? If so, how do I do it?
And no, changing the name of the Windows share is not an option!
I'm trying to put a custom icon on my external drive, I've tried different graphics, different file sizes and formats, etc. and this is all I can get out of it. I'm probably missing something obvious but I've tried everything I can think of, and a MRoogle search turned up nothing.

Installed WoW a while ago, and played a bunch. Then I installed CandyBar, and changed some icons (including the WoW icon) and then WoW no longer worked. It gave me an error message about changing files or something I can't remember now.Anyway, has anyone else run into this problem, or know how to avoid it (aside from the obvious 'don't use CandyBar')?

Get info brings up a permissions window that says "Custom" where the read write should be. It will not let me change these.

I initially set up my MacBrook Pro Retina (late 2013 - Mavericks) with one of the default images for my user account and the same for iMessage.
I've changed me user account avatar to the image I want OK, but I've tried just about everything to permanently change the iMessage avatar - it just keeps defaulting to the original image (an eagle). The image i'm using is saved locally. I've tried all different file formats, including .tif (the same format as the system default images)I've even added the image I want into the HDD>User Library>User Pictures>Animal (same place as the system default images).Â
But, every time I change it, then restart iMessage - it's back to default. System reboot has the same effect, obviously.
my background changes to the default image every time i shut down. what should i do to keep the background image i chose from iPhotos ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedOn my Macbook, running Leopard, I recently changed all my icons. (applications, folders, default files, etc.) I changed the Finder and Trash icons via System/Library/CoreServices. But the Dock won't recognize that the Finder icon has changed-- it's still showing me the old icon. That's Problem 1.
Then I created a new user account, and discovered that on that account the Dock shows the correct Finder image. But Problem 2: the new account doesn't recognize my default file icons. It flashes them for a second when I save the file, and then reverts back to the regular white default image. (Even though all the .icns files are correct in the application's Resources folder.) I really don't want to download Candybar or anything, since I know it can be done without that.
I just installed iWork '08 on my new Macbook pro (snow leopard and general '09 programs are on it) and for some reason, the text coloring and highlighting, generally anything to do with the text and whatever appears on the pages themselves have completely gone blank. The highlight appears as this light purplish color, I can not get the text to read as visible. It appears white no matter what. Even the text blinker isn't showing. Is there a problem with installing iWork '08 on an '09 based Mac? This is a legal copy of iWork I've had since buying my first Mac, so I know it can't really be the disc screwing up, is there anyone that might be able to help? This is an image of the problem. As you can see, the black is the default font color, but it does not show up as it. Also, the general coloration of it is off.

I'm afraid I'm having a Windows user moment. Sometimes I still fail to do things the easy, intuitive way, even after roughly 4 years in OS X. I have 5 hard drives in my Mac Pro, one of them is my boot Intel SSD. I want that icon to be distinct from the others (another is a Time Machine drive). I've downloaded two files that would work for me, one was a png and the other a .ico file, but when I copy the icon from the top left corner of the 'get info' pane on the desired file, and then paste it int he correlating top left corner of the SSD 'get info' pane, it pastes the generic PNG or ICO icon, not the actual icon image I desire.

The other day I was modifying my dock settings and have got it to a place which I'm happy with, apart from one problem. I was experimenting with different trash icons but decided to stick with the original so changed them back. Now, every time I shutdown and reboot, the trash icon is showing up as one of the trash icons I was experimenting, regardless of whether or not there is anything in the trash. If the trash has something in it, the wrong icon will be displayed before automatically switching to the correct one. However, if the trash is empty on startup, I have to put something in it, then empty the trash before the correct icon shows up. I have checked that I have deleted all the icons I was experimenting with but it seems like it the unwanted icon has been saved somewhere in memory and is the default trash icon on startup? Any ideas on what's going on or how to fix the problem?

The disk image icon from my installation of Adobe Flash has randomly disappeared from my desktop. I may have accidently ejected it, but don't think I did. It is now not showing up under my "Devices" list either.Â
If I have accidently ejected it, does this mean the software is uninstalled?Â
