i bought snow leopard and upgraded.
erased the hard disk with the disk utility.
but my problem is that in the settings of my modem/router my macbook has the name created by the previous owner, including his first name.
Right now I have an old router/modem. And I want to buy a new one that has QoS...i found Linksys WRT54GL. But it has no ADSL modem...So I am asking you, Is it possible to connect this linksys router to my router/modem? But in way, that the router/modem will no longer be a router, but only a modem.

So, for the past 5 months or so, any time I'm using the internet at home, the connection speeds are atrocious. I bought a new modem (which Charter quickly dispatched as being "unsupported", despite 3 techs telling me it would work), tried hard wiring my iMac to check for wifi issues, and have basically just gone out of my mind with speeds that make dial-up look favorable.
Whenever I experience page timeouts or flat out no connectivity, I resort to the time-tested "turn Airport off/on" solution, which provides a page or two of fast connectivity before the slow downs continue. I'm beginning to think my router is on its way out, but the fact that it works sometimes makes me think it still might be the ISP.
What is Airport Extreme? Can I use it in conjunction with my existing modem / router and share it with my internet connection?

I have seen the Netgear WNDR3700 but the reviews say the speeds they get are only 60mbps which I dont get as its supposed to be 600mbps.
My friend bought a new netgear router today. He plugged it in and was ready to get on the internet. The problem is, he can't get on the internet. He is able to connect to the router though. We also tried unplugging the router from the modem and plugging the ethernet straight into his Macbook Pro. From there the internet works perfectly. It is like the modem and the router are not connecting.

i have a macbook and my gf has a mBP and we just recently go SBC/At&t DSL. but this stupid ass 2wire modem keeps randomly losing all its signal or something and takes about 5 mins to reset. I had this problem when i was at home with the same router. Does anyone know what to do?

I just purchased Time Capsule and I would prefer to use TC as my wireless network router instead of the Netgear modem/router. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just moved and have had to switch ISPs. I have DSL service and the only modem option my ISP provides is an all-in-one modem/Wi-Fi router. I have an AirPort Extreme that I would like to use, but with this setup, unfortunately, I have to put it behind the modem/router.
I've used the AirPort Extreme both wirelessly and via Ethernet, and it is noticeably slow in connecting to Web sites. My browser often gets stuck on "Looking up [URL]" or "Connecting to [URL]" when it's plugged into the AE via Ethernet. When I plug directly into the DSL modem/router, sites are connected to and loaded immediately. The problem only exists when plugged into the AE. (Strangely, speed tests show that the AE downloads at nearly the same speed as the DSL modem/router, but this doesn't account for the noticeable delay in connecting to and the initial loading of Web pages).
I was thinking of purchasing time capsule so that i can wirelessly backup my system. What does time capsule setup look like? Do i need to modify routers or modem or is it just simple plug and play?

Just downloaded Lion, now the Airport wireless router keeps dropping the cable modem settings so I can't access the network, internet or WiFi. I have to repeatedly go back into System Preferences, Network, Assist Me, Network Diagnostics, choose the network port config, select WiFi, select my network and it restores all network settings and says "Internet connection appears to working correctly." This problem apparently happens whenever the computer goes to standby/sleep.

I've managed somehow to change the displayed bitrate of songs I've purchased off the iTS, simply by removing the contact details with a hex editor, and it's really bugging me that there doesn't seem to be any way to change it back!
Normally, iTS purchases appear as 256kbps, which is the standard I use (I don't have VBR checked for iTunes plus, as it appears '256kbps (VBR)' whilst songs purchased from iTunes do not, and I like 100% consistency in appearance) - however, now I am getting the true bitrate on songs I've purchased and altered, such as 264kbps, or 281kbps, anywhere from 256kbps to 290kbps.
How can I change the appearance of these files so iTunes displays them as 256kbps again? I've tried AtomicParsley, but it doesn't seem to have a bitrate option, and I definitely do not want to burn them to CD and rip them back!
I know this will sound like an incredibly anal request, but as I said, I like 100% consistency!
Why is it that for some of my songs, iTunes displays, right below the application title, "iTunes," the name of the song, and below that, the name of the artist. In some other cases, it displays the name of the song, and below that, the name of the ALBUM. All fields in song info are filled out correctly.

I just installed a new ADSL modem/WiFi router from my ISP and now the Mini I have connected to the ADSL modem via ethernet cable has no Airport signal. With the previous ADSL modem/WiFi router I had to use internet sharing over airport from the Mini in order to get WiFi on my other computers. The old modem had WiFi, but I could only get one computer to connect to it, for all the other computers I just used internet sharing. The new modem/WiFi router will let all my computers onto the network, which is great.
My problem is that I use Mobile Air Mouse to use my iPhone as a mouse for the Mini. Since the modem/router upgrade I can't do that.
My router has ac but the Mac is using n. Do I have to change setting in the router or the Mac?

View 6 Replies View Relatedi recently bought an Airport Express, and i finally took it out of its box after i purchased my new stereo. I connected the audio cable to the stereo and the airport unit and plugged it into an outlet. I opened up airport utility on my mac, AX appeared and i configured it to "join a wireless network". After completing the remaining steps, i updated it.. and waited for it to restart. Now here's my problem. It comes up with an error telling me it couldn't find the device after restarting. I have Verizon FiOS as my provider.. and I know that airport express has a history of trouble with the Actiontec router. Is there anything i can do with my current equipment to get this thing to work? I do not need to extend the network.. only join to use airtunes and print wirelessly... Also, my Actiontec router and FiOS connection are through my crappy dell pc downstairs, while i am using my 24" iMac upstairs in my bedroom trying to connect this. Should i change my router's settings?

I am having a problem with making the router they supplied my default router.I am not trying to piggy back or connect additional routers. I just want to use the Fios router.Prior to Fios, I had Time Warner and i used my own router and as soon as I opened up my macbook, it would immediately find that router as my default. Now, with Fios, when i open my "Airport" icon at the top on my screen, it NEVER choses my Fios router as my default, making me change to it every time i want to use my internet after opening up my computer.

Wireless works fine in the house.Downstairs my Xbox 360's ethernet cable is plugged into my AT&T provided set-top box (receiver/DVR) and internet works fine on that. I cannot stream my media (using 360 Connect) from my mac to my xbox since they are on different networks, although using the same U-verse connection.When checking the AT&T router's system summary page I can see that there is an IP assigned to the xbox.
