Hardware :: Networking Options With Router Behind Router

Upstairs I have my AT&T provided router's wireless turned off and have plugged my Airport Extreme into the ethernet in DMZ mode. Wireless works fine in the house.Downstairs my Xbox 360's ethernet cable is plugged into my AT&T provided set-top box (receiver/DVR) and internet works fine on that. I cannot stream my media (using 360 Connect) from my mac to my xbox since they are on different networks, although using the same U-verse connection. When checking the AT&T router's system summary page I can see that there is an IP assigned to the xbox.

Since Saturday I've been having trouble connecting to the internet. For the last 18 months we've been connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station (2003) which in turn is wired to a Motorola SB5101 cable modem. Every time I had called the ISP (Comcast), they've been able to get it going while I was on the line by restarting the modem (which I tried before calling). Last night nothing would work no matter how many times I rebooted the modem and after many trial and errors, we were able to get connected to the internet by hooking my MBP directly to the ethernet cable from the modem and taking the Airport out of the equation. The service rep decided my router was likely at fault and I wasn't inclined to argue as it is an old router and things do break over time.
However, I ran out and bought a brand new Belkin Share wireless router and now neither that nor the Airport can connect to the internet even when the lights on the modem say all is well. Unfortunately, the Belkin came with it's own software package for router management and setup, which I'm not too keen on. It kept saying it couldn't connect to the modem or that the internet connection to the modem was lost. In tonight's efforts, I'm always able to plug my MBP right into the modem and get a connection, but as soon as I move that cable to the Airport or the new Belkin, my internet is gone. The Airport connection in the Network section of System Preferences always comes up as connected, but the Belkin glows dark red instead of green and the accompanying software says no connection to the internet can be found.
Does this sound more like the fault of the modem, the ISP, or me, the user? Any help would be much appreciated. Although I am able to connect now, my roommate's computer doesn't even have an ethernet port.

I searched this forum, but couldn't find the direct answer to my question, so please forgive me for posting what I'm sure is a very basic question and something that has been posted here before. I'm getting a new 2009 mac mini tomorrow. I currently run a wireless network via an older Airport express that connects two Macbooks to the internet in a small 2-bedroom apartment. The plan is to make the mini a media center and home network server. With that in mind, is it best to link the mini wirelessly onto my existing wireless network (802.11g)? Or should I get an airport extreme (802.11n) and link that wirelessly to the mini? Or can I run the cable modem directly into the mini and have it function as the wireless router (saving me the expense of buying the airport extreme)?

I just recently got Verizon Fios internet. I am having a problem with making the router they supplied my default router.I am not trying to piggy back or connect additional routers. I just want to use the Fios router.Prior to Fios, I had Time Warner and i used my own router and as soon as I opened up my macbook, it would immediately find that router as my default. Now, with Fios, when i open my "Airport" icon at the top on my screen, it NEVER choses my Fios router as my default, making me change to it every time i want to use my internet after opening up my computer.

I have an additional question about the Airport Express. I am interested in buying one but don't want to commit until I get a few questions answered.
1. I own a D-link wired router and a d-link wireless router. I have been tempted to buy the express, hook it into my wired router and run wireless off of the apple. I want the express so I can run itunes on my stereo from anywhere in the house.
Would there be any advantages to me using the wireless router in conjunction with the airport express instead?2. I am interested in the DHCP comments from above. If I turn off DHCP on the airport express then any friends who come over to use the wireless internet will need to be personally configured. Could I just assign the Airport Express a static IP address on the wired router, keep a DHCP on on the express for my friends and turn off DHCP on the wired router?
3. I have a PS3. I don't want to slow my gaming speed down. I intend on plugging the PS3 into my existing router (wired or wireless router, I will have it wired though) Will daisy chaining the express off of the router slow down my PS3 connection when other users are not using it?

I just built a PC that actually works. However, I was really cheap and didn't wanna buy a wireless access card, thinking I could connect to an extra router and use this router to connect to my other router that's network enabled. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? I tried googling it, but I dunno what this is called.

I have a Linksys Wireless Router and a Linksys Modem, the router is 6 years old or so 802.11b, how much faster would the Internet be if I had a combined Linksys wireless router/modem versus the 802.11b that I have now?
Would I see a huge difference? I am running my Macbook off it and an olde Toshiba laptop.

What I'm trying to do is set up the apple tvs to be connected to a router that is not connected to the internet, which we'll call Router B.The Mac Mini has all the movies and TV Shows on the iTunes account is hardlined into another router that is connected to the internet, which we'll call Router A.Is it possible to have the Mac Mini hardlined into Router A (to have an internet connection) and simultaneously connected wirelessly to Router B (so the AppleTVs can pull from the Mac Mini iTunes.)?Or vice versa, hardlined into Router B (non internet connection) and Wireless to Router A (internet connection).
Info:
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

The problem is getting the router to see me as connected with n...even when setting the router to n only! My hubby is the tech geek, but we are kinda stumped at this point. Any suggestions? I am the only mac user in the house , he is using a regular ol windows computer, but is the wired one.

I have this old Mac Mini that I was gonna use as a media center/pvr type thing. I do not have a router at the moment, so I thought maybe I could use the mini as a router as well. The only problem with this setup is that it doesn't look like the internet sharing feature of Mac OS X supports anything but WEP. It's missing some other key features as well, like port mapping.

Im having trouble with VMware.. If I set the wireless network connection to NAT, the internet works, but my xbox 360 wont show up in the media streaming options in windows media player. However, if I change the network settings to bridged, I lose my internet connection (well.. sometimes it works.. 80% of the time it doesnt..) Connecting to bridged is the only way I can connect to my 360, and only some of the time where the internet will work. Is there a way to fix the problem with bridged or NAT so they both work together?

I have purchased 2 different wired DSL routers from Fry's and my Mac G4 OS X 10.4.11 will not recognize the IP address of either router. I have called their respective tech support services and gotten no relief. One actually said that my computer has the wrong IP address. Is that even possible? Unfortunately, the other computer that I want to put on the network is a PC, but is a work computer and work will not let me have the access code to upload anything.

I recently sold my old MacBook to my brother. He has 2 PCs and 2 iPhones, both of which connect perfectly to the internet through his modem/router (a BT Business Hub). The Mac, on the other hand, just won't connect to the internet. Airport connects to the router, but cannot load any web pages. Connecting by ethernet does not appear to help. This Mac will happily connect to any other router except this one.

I recently was given a linksys router by one of my roommates and am trying to set it up for my parents. My problem is the wireless network is password protected and the settings panel is password protected as well and my roommate does not know either password. I've tried all the usual passwords but none of them are working. Is there anyway to do a hard reset to take all of these passwords off? I do have physical access to the router.

So i moved into a new place with roommates who have an existing router setup. The have a pretty fast internet connection and a setup with an older netgear router. One has an old macbook (13-widescreen) and one a sony netbook of some sort or a really small viao.
The both connect to the internet with out a problem.
I have a new aluminum macbook and I can't connect. Usually what will happen is I will get home and have a decent connection for about 5 minutes. After that pages will load but the progress bar will stall. And then within five minutes I can't open anything, and finally it will boot me off, and when i try to reconnect it just asks me for the password which is saved in the keychain and it just does a connection timeout til i give up.
Now the weird thing is this. I tried bypassing the router and direct connecting the cable modem and still nothing. I have gone into the settings, messed with those, rebooted, everything an I can't solve it (both my roommates are not techies so they aren't much help). I have no problem connecting to anyother network. it is a WEP set up.
