For some reason an IMAP account was previously added, which I want to delete (Mail keeps trying to send / receive from this IMAP account, which isn't set up, and stops Mail working)
However, when I try and delete it by going to Mail -> Preferences, then selecting the IMAP account and pressing the '-' button - it won't delete it! It just stays there in the left hand column. How to I delete it?
I am currently using a Gmail IMAP setup in Mail.app. Everything is working great, and with a Gmail Labs feature called Advanced IMAP Settings, I have hidden all of the main Gmail folders, like All Mail and Starred. I've already integrated folders like Sent and Trash with Mail.app's mailboxes.
Because of these, the [Gmail] folder in my account is completely empty. I now wish to remove it from the sidebar, since I don't need it there. How can I accomplish this?
I just configured my Gmail IMAP account in Mail.app. In the Settings > Labels section of Gmail, I unselected the "All Mail" label. In Mail.app, I chose the Gmail > Trash mailbox and then "Use this mailbox for Trash" from the Mailbox menu, and did the same for Spam and Drafts.
Now there are no mailboxes listed in the Gmail mailbox, but it still appears there at the top of the mailbox list with a little triangle next to it. When I click on the triangle to expand, there's nothing in there - but the mailbox won't go away. It's an off-white color whereas all the other mailboxes are the standard bluish color.
I have just set up a Sky account and have been told I can only use IMAP to access my mails to my Mac Mail account.
I have set up an account in Mac Mail but every time I delete the mails from my Sky account or my iphone they delete from my Mac Mail on my iMac! I am on Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
I have tried (in desperation) to reset to POP and spoken to SEVERAL people in at Sky help who have no idea! Disabling IMAP on my Sky account still allows the mail to come and go but STILL deletes them from my Mac if i delete them from my Sky account or iphone Is there a solution to this???
I suddenly cannot get mail on my IMAP account in Mail 5.2. The rotating 'get mail' symbol continues non-stop. I can send mail, but it is extremely slow to go, and will not send me a copy as requested, even for a 500 byte post. I mostly have to use a dongle for mail/internet, but have now tried from a MacD wifi site too. I can get onto internet OK.
I have an IMAP account in Lion Mail, that I would like all the individual messages exported into a Folder, say on my desktop. This email is no longer functioning so I simply won't be able to re-import the messages if I were to export the mailbox as it appears it only places a plist file referencing the IMAP information. Previously I believe I was able to highlight all messages and drag-n-drop them into a folder of my choice. I can sort of do it, One by one if I drag and drop. Is there any other method to obtaining this.....selecting all messages and dropping them into a local folder?
I have just discovered that my IMAP email account is not saving any of my outgoing SENT emails on the server ! I have checked the settings and the option to store on the server is ticked.
I spoke to my ISP guy just now and he confirmed that there is nothing in the sent folder despite the fact that I sent three important emails today. He suggested I 'untick' the option and save sent emails on my local iMac - and I did - and it works.....
But what is the point of an IMAP account ?? I need to work at two locations and synch the accounts ...
I found mention of this elsewhere on Google... but cannot see any fix.
(I have all updates downloaded and installed on the iMac as of this afternoon)
I have the newest version of Apple Mail and I am syncing it with an IMAP account. Everything works fine so far. I had to delete all my mails on the provider server because I reached the storage limit. So I saved all my mails on my mac from the apple mail first and then I deleted all my mails on the server. After deleting all mails on the server, I putted back my old mails into APPLE MAIL, but it immediately deleted all my mails in APPLE MAIL after syncing with the server. So my question. How can I place my old mails back into APPLE MAIL without it deleting my local mails when it is syncing with the server?
Mail will NOT let me select IMAP and will go to POP automatically for my gmail acct. I have the POP disabled in gmail and IMAP enabled. Why is this so difficult Is there a way to have the option to select the type of account I want as it is not giving me one like it is supposed to.
For the second time in less than a month, all my older than 1 week emails disappeared from the inbox. The ones from Sent or from my "On My Mac" folders are still there, but the Inbox has only 20 or so emails. I have an IMAP account that worked great so far.
Any Users of Apple Mail with HUGE Gmail IMAP accounts? I'm switching to Apple Mail and am wondering if it will work with a Gmail IMAP account of 8 GIG and 80 folders? Is this even worth trying to setup or will it just crash? 1. Will it freak out during sync and give me the "too many simultaneous connections" error? 2. Is it fast enough with such a huge IMAP folder or does it crawl?
My "smart" mailbox is showing messages from the "All Mail" folder of my IMAP account folder in addition to my Inbox. Is there a way to work around or stop this so I don't see duplicate messages in my smart mailbox?
i use both an apple mail email and an IMAP email for my business.
I have had a recurring problem with filing mail:I am trying to file all email messages onto my iCloud folders on my mail.
1. When i file mail into a folder into won't stay in the folder. It comes back into my inbox.
Furthermore, if it does file messages (which is sporadic) then the messages will go into the folder but someones a copy will also reappear back in my inbox)
2. When i delete emails: the appear back in my inbox even though i have deleted them.
I do not receive an error message when this happens, the emails just pop back up & into my mailbox
How I can do a work around to get message to stay in the folder i want them? Due to this issue my inbox has over 4000 emails in the inbox and i really need to file documents away.
I am operating on OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) and all my updates are up to date!
I am no longer using a Mail account which has no messages in the inbox, sent, etc., but I I've done a Save As of many of these messages into other folders outside of Mail on my computer, but are still Mail docs. Also, I can no longer access the server hosting this acct. and messages. Mail warns me that if I remove this account "all messages will be deleted permanently from your computer." Sounds like I should leave it be even though there are no messages left from this acct. in Mail. Would removing this Mail acct. actually result in all the messages in other non-Mail folders on my computer disappearing?
I've been using Apple Mail with POP Gmail for a few years now with problems. Generally I ignore the Gmail side of things and only ever access through Mail at home, and also use a Blackberry to send and receive emails.
At the moment Gmail pushes mail to my Blackberry and also holds it in the Inbox at Gmail until my Apple Mail app on my iMac downloads it, whereupon it's all moved to All at Gmail. This works fine, but is a problem when I use Mail on my Powerbook - once it downloads the new mail, Gmail moves it to All mail and when I get home and fire up my iMac's Mail, those emails won't appear there. Annoying. So, I need to go IMAP.
My problem is that as I have never bothered with tagging or sorting things on the Gmail side of things, and have done all my ordering through Apple Mail with custom folders and rules, I get the impression all that work goes out the window and I have to start over in terms of organising again, and that in fact any rules I want to set that I want to be duplicated across devices have to be done on the Gmail webpage. Is there any way whatsoever of somehow exporting my Apple Mail rules over to Gmail so that when I change to IMAP it somehow keeps things as they are as best as possible?
Up till now, all the family have been using just one user account on our iMac. (OK, I now know that's not a good idea!) I'm now going to be working from home so have set up a new user as Work. I've been using an IMAP mail service in Mail on the family user account and I've now set it up on the work account. If I delete the IMAP account from Mail in the family user account, will this delete my mail off the IMAP server so I cannot access it on the wrok user account?
No matter which from address I select in mail the email that are sent only come from one address. This address being one of my own domain which is accessed via imap from google apps in mail. No matter what other address I select from be it a mac.com address (or alias) or another address those that receive the email see it as from this one address. I have checked the preferences and it is set to send from address account of selected mail box. I can only send emails from one of 6 accounts in mail.
I set up my gmail account in Mail and love it. My question is regarding the IMAP folders. In the attached image you'll see that one of the IMAP accounts has over 400 messages, but I only have 18 in my inbox itself.
Is there a way to hide or remove the unread message count from the IMAP folder in the drawer?
I've just moved to Snow Leopard and have found that my main Mail IMAP account is now locking the server mailbox. This means I can't access the mailbox via Pop from any other machine (such as at home) and the webmail interface will only let me read but not delete mails.
I've checked via Mail Preferences that the account is set to Manual Updates (as was its predecessor, when it worked). I assume this setting is just not working as I can see the account is still reading mail automatically.
I thought of deleting the account and setting it up again but worry that the warning message about losing all mail associated with this account would mean all my local folders would be zapped. So my temporary fix is to deactivate the account and set up a POP version instead.
I can't receive any email in my new [URL]. I wanted to change my Icloud IMAP account but i dont know how. Since I lost my phone i had to make a new gmail account and i can't make any changes
I have set up IMAP accounts on my iphone, MacBook Pro and IPad 3 but cannot get it set up on my iMac.It appears as an account butwill not connect and receive messages.
I have more than one email account set up on Mail and the strangest thing happens and I can't find out how to stop it.
Here is the problem:
- I have 2 accounts, 'Account A' is for my partner & 'Account B' is for me. - Someone sends an email to 'Account A' (my partner) and CCs 'Account B' (me) into the same eMail. - If I click reply from 'Account B' it sends the eMail from 'Account A' which is my partner, when it should be from me.
I have worked out that this is because 'Account A' was originally sent the eMail in The 'To' field as opposed to the 'CC' field in composing the reply eMail. I know that I can manually change the 'From' field every time when replying to an eMail but it becomes an nuisance. I forget to do it when quickly replying as I consider Mail to reply from the account that I'm reading the email from.
I have gone to the compose section in the preferences and there is an option for changing this when composing a new email but nothing when replying.
I am migrating my mail and archive folders from Mail to iCloud. I moved 20+ folders and over 8k messages with no problem by dragging and dropping the folder from 'On my mac' section to 'iCloud' section in Mail. The last two folders were the largest with over 1.5k in each folder. Over 1200 of the messages in each went in to iCloud without a hitch. Then I got this error:
The IMAP command “APPEND” (to [mail box name]) failed with server error: Message contains NUL characters.
There are 149 messages left in one folder and 203 in another folder. Try as I might, it will not work. I tried Rebuild mailbox option in menu and exported to Mail and mbox format and then re-importing. Still does not work.
I have set up an Imap account using my Mac Mail (Version 3.6 (935/935.3)). It all works great, and so forth except that somewhere along the lines my mail is being deleted off the server. It's important to note that this is NOT deleted mail - which should be, and is being, deleted - but mail I wish to keep. I cannot decipher exactly how it decides what to delete, but I seem to have quota's enforced - but when I try to set quota's (under -> account info -> quota's ) I cannot set anything.
It tells me that "this account supports quota limits", but it won't let me adjust them? As best I can tell it's deleting mail older than 1 month or 200 messages or a size (indeterminable). I sync with my iPhone mail app, also using the Imap, and it has an option to "display" xxx messages. Currently this is set to 200 (the max option), I cannot deselect it and cannot select more than 200. I figure, however, that this refers to how many messages are displayed on my phone, not the limit stored on the server.
