I recently purchased a HP MediaSmart Windows Home Server and I am wanting to find a solution for syncing my iTunes LIbrary to this network drive.
Can someone suggest some software that will compare a folder on my mac with a network drive and sync any changes it finds? I would like to have a duplicate copy on my home server. I would like this application to run everyday and update the Home Server with new or updated files it finds.
Before someone suggests something about Time Machine I am already syncing my MAC's to this networked server. I am looking for a straight folder to folder compare and sync.

I have an ongoing project for school that requires me to work on it both at home and in school. When I have finished working on the documents for the project in school I save them to a single folder on my USB flash drive. When I get home I need to continue working on the same files within that folder. Is there an application that will sync the folder on my memory stick with the one on my home laptop as soon I plug in the flash drive? Could I make this in Automator?

I'm currently taking a programming class in which I work on projects on the school's computers, save the files onto the flash drive, work on the projects at home, and then sync the files again. Is there anything that would automatically sync certain folders when I plug the flash drive in or change files on either of these? (i.e. the programming folder on my mac syncs with the programming folder on the flash drive) I've searched Mroogle, and I'd rather not have to buy Chronosync for $40.

I use my iPod Classic for a lot of things on a daily basis. It means I don't have to take my laptop in school, I have all the files, pictures and documents I need for when I may need them at school. I have always just been copying and pasting files that I have changed or added onto and from the iPod Hard Drive. Now I use the files so much I always loose track of what I have updated and haven't and end up without the files I need when at school.
Is there a program that can keep my laptop and iPod folders up to date by syncing just the changed, added and deleted files. iTunes can sync quite a few things but not documents and folders which is annoying. A well needed update I feel as the iPod is increasingly becoming a necessity in a lot of peoples every day lives. So am I the only one that uses my classic as a portable hard drive for my work?

I have had a Gmail IMAP account sync with Mail without problems for over a year. I almost never actually log into Gmail in a browser anymore because Mail works just fine.
The other day I was away from my computer so I logged in via a browser and saw that about a month ago, Gmail stopped saving sent messages in the sent section.
Those messages are still in my Mail folder, but never got sent to the server or not saved. I never changed any configurations.
Is there some way to manually "push" those messages to keep things in sync?
I have checked my settings, everything is normal.

I have a lion server set up on a mac mini. I have set up an OD to manage network accounts through the server app. My workflow for setting up users is:Â
1. using the server app add a new user
2. I have a home folders users directory set up under file sharing and set to be available for home directories - so I select this share as the home folder for the user
3. I user the WGM app to then set up mobiility through the preferences tab to create always and to sync the home and preferences
4. I check that the home folder is set correctly under the user account in WGMÂ
When I log in to the client machine (regardless of whether or not I have first logged in on the server or not) the client presents an error saying that it can not log in and can not access the server at that time. The client stays on the user login screen.Â
If I then change the users home folder on the server to local I can then log in on the client machine and create the account. If I elect not to create the home folder on the client machine the rainbow ball of death occurs and the machine hangs. So I instead log in and select to create the local home folder. I then log out of the user and change the user setting on the server to point the home folder to the correct share instead of on the local setting.Â
I then log back on to the client machine and can log in without any problems. HOwever, I get an error message if I try to sync saying that the home folder is not accessible. This is despite the fact that the home folder, and the server et al, can be mounted in finder and I can copy and paste documents etc to and from the server. I have full and expected access to the server and the associated storage. For some reason home sync continues to say that the home folder can not be found (in fact that the server can not be found) whenever I try to sync. I have the OD bound to the client machine and have no problems seeing the users and being able to access the OD from the client machine.Â

Since getting my iPhone 3GS just a few months ago, I have never been able to connect to iTunes. I was getting a strange error code, but when I tried again today, I got this message instead, "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. Could not allocate a resource." I have had this phone for months now, but have never connected it to iTunes, and would REALLY like to so I can back things up. I have tried plugging into EVERY USB on the back of my iMac. The same thing happens in each one. I've also tried unlugging ALL other peripherals, and still nothing. Oh, and FYI, the phone connects just fine to iPhoto.
Read this in Console: "Could not create /var/db/lockdown//SystemConfiguration.plist: No such file or directory." Tried to reset the lockdown folder as described in step #6 of this article: [URL], but it says "The folder can't be found." So, I can't continue on with the steps. Now what?Â

As you know, Boot Camp 3.0 allows the window partition to see Mac files and folders without additional software.
I am trying to set up Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center to use on my Xbox 360.
When I tell Windows Media Player to load files from a Mac folder, I can navigate to that folder no problem, but after going through the steps, it fails to load ANY media.

I'd like to synch my Windows Outlook (Calendar & Contacts) with MobileMe, but I am not sure about what information will actually synch, and what information takes priority when synching. Will my contacts & calendar entries on MobileMe be synched/copied to Outlook as well, or will the Outlook contacts/calendar entries be added to MobileMe, and everything that is on MobileMe now will be deleted?
There is no option in the Windows MobileMe Control Panel to determine which one, MobileMe or Outlook, is the Default information to synch, and I don't want to lose the contacts on MobileMe.
I am particular concerned about conflicts, and how to determine which, MobileMe or Outlook, will override the other in case of conflicts.

Ok so I have a macbook, and I have a desktop that I basically use as a server as well. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way I could set up my PC and Mac to sync files? I mostly just want to sync up my Music and Photos just so I can have them up to date and backed up incase one of my computers happens to kick the bucket on me.
I don't have mobile me and I do not play on purchasing it quite yet. Also my PC is running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and my MacBook is running Mac OSX Leopard. The PC is connected to my router via ethernet cable, and my Macbook is wireless and uses Wireless N.

I hav a MBP w/ both Snow Leopard & Windows 7 64-bit via BootCamp. i wanna be able to access (read/write but if not, read only access is acceptable) my iTunes content (music, videos, apps, etc), which is on my Mac partition, from my Windows side without having to create a separate, periodically updated copy of my contents on my Windows partition, which is what some of the solutions I read hav u do. (I don't like having to waste space unnecessarily)
Basically, I would like to be able to sync my iPhone to my iTunes content on my computer from either OS and have all the content be current and in sync (for my 3 platforms: Mac, Windows, & iPhone) regardless of which side I am accessing it from. I wouldnt wanna hav to log onto my Mac side just so i can sync a song i downloaded on my iPhone to the library on the computer; i would like to be able to do this from my Windows side as well. Finally, is there a way to do all this without the use of an external drive?

I use robocopy (command line copy utility built into windows) to sync ~150GB of data between multiple windows machines. I've never had any issues, it will run and check the data to make sure it is synchronized, if there are no changes it can check the 150GB in a few minutes.
Now I have a Mac 10.6 that will have a copy of the data on an HFS partition. I'm connecting to the Mac from a Windows 7 machine via file sharing in Mac to Windows. I have robocopied the data onto the Mac system. However when I re-run robocopy all the files show up as Older or Newer time stamp so it will have to recopy everything making it useless for synching just changes.
I've tried the /fft switch for use with fat32 and file systems that don't store the time as precisely as NTFS
I've tried the /dst switch to check and see if Daylight savings is messing it up.
Anyone else have this issue?
Can you suggest any utilities that you use to sync large amounts of data between mac and windows?

Is it possible to sync my iPad on both Mac and Windows, and to share the same library for both devices. I constantly switch between my desktop pc and Macbook Pro and it would be handy to get the same apps/music/movies on both, and being able to either sync my iPad on the pc or Mac depending on which one I'm using that day. Is this possible? Or can I only sync my iPad to one iTunes installation?

So a Zune will connect and be recognized by the app, but nothing else will happen. You can click on the 'Enable Sync' button, but it won't do anything.
Hopefully this will be addressed in a later release, unless I'm the only one using a Zune.

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to automatically sync certain folders from a Windows BootCamp partition to the Mac.
Basically what I'm trying to do is automate a way to backup my Mac with Time Machine but also keep important files that I use on the Windows partition backed up at the same time.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 installed on it. I have my iTunes library of about 250 songs (so not a huge one) in Snow Leopard, not Windows 7. I am interested in purchasing a Zune HD and syncing the iTunes content to it.
Now here comes my question(s):
Does removing the DRM (upgrading to iTunes-Plus) allow the content to be moved onto the Zune HD? If so, could I copy my music, videos, etc. to an external hard drive, boot into Windows 7, transfer the files into Windows, and sync my content to the Zune HD? Would this work? Also, would I sync through the Microsoft Zune software, or what?

Loving Mac. Have transferred virtually everything from Windows to it. BUT I have 2 folders in Music which cannot be recognized due to European spelling in the folder name:
DJ Tiësto
and
Röyksopp
In Mac, I cannot rename these folders (application unknown error) nor can I view them in Finder ...
how to modify the folder names or make a global change so that the European characters are recognized?

So basically, I was given a decent windows machine for free, and I'm trying to convert it into a place where all our family's files can be accessed.
However, I'm having a real tough time trying to connect to the windows 7 computer. I've tried Go>Connect to Server and put in "smb://" then the IP address (192.168.1.105 in this case), and I get the error message saying I should check my IP address and contact my system's administrator.
Now, the part that baffles me the most is that in the finder left hand sidebar, I can see the homeserver and the other computer on the network. When I try to connect to either one of them, it takes a good 15 minutes then the computer gives up, even when I connect with the administrator username and password.
Is it a problem with my computer? I've got them all on the same workgroup (MSHOME) and are connected to the same router.

I've got a Mac mini connected to my network through wireless. The Vista computers in the house can only see the "Printers" folder on the mini. The mini can get all the files on the Windows machines. I've also got a Power Mac G4 connected to the mini and it can see all the files on the mini. This has been happening for months!
