MacBook Pro :: Briefcase Suggestions For 15.4inch
Feb 3, 2010I recently bought a 15.4� MacBook Pro and am looking for a smart briefcase for my machine. I travel on work frequently and most of my trips are overnight. I would ideally like something that can be expanded, if necessary, to accommodate a pair of clothes. Also, I want to spend minimum time at airport security and want my briefcase to be TSA checkpoint friendly guidelines compliant. Needless to say, it should have lots of pockets to organize my files, power cord, USB drive, business cards, headphones, etc. Does anyone know of a good quality luggage manufacturer that makes such expandable briefs? I don�t mind spending money for a high quality product and a customer service to match.

Apr 2, 2009UPDATE EDIT: took proper pictures this time around while I had the free time.. Corners are very vulnerable to exorbitant damage costs (my case costs over $800). Be careful. The best way to protect would be a full on plastic cover, but that doubles the weight and size = Normal side; I put a cheapo $10 cover on it and it's still got bubbles I've got to push out or pin out, so excuse those.

Aug 22, 2008What happened to the title bar roll-up/minimize feature in OS9? Right-clicking or double clicking the title bar in OS9 would result in the window rolling up, showing only the title bar. It's great for reducing screen clutter while still keeping the windows on the desktop (not hidden into the dock).
It's no longer in OS X 10.5. I loved that, so much that I even installed a MS Windows version of the same feature. Is there a program or hack to achieve this in Leopard?

Apr 8, 2010I'm not sure how it got turned on in the first place, but the voice over feature on my iMac is driving me crazy! It says something everytime I click something on my computer Here are the things I've tried:
1. ReBooting (hoping that it will reset itself somehow).
2. Went through the Voice Over Utility and tried to turn it off, but couldn't figure out how.
3. Someone told me to trash the Voice Over Utility so I did that, but it didn't fix it...
I'm running Mac OSX Tiger on a white intel iMac. Is there any way to turn off the voice over utility?

Aug 7, 2008When, oh when is Apple going to include a comprehensive merge feature in Pages. Yeah, I know we can merge Address Book fields into Pages docs, and that's cool and works flawlessly. But I've got literally 100s of WriteNow template docs and data docs that I created back in the mid-1980s to use in my estate planning practice - wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care surrogates and tons of forms letters we use every day.
But the era of OS 9 applications like WriteNow and INControl which have been orphaned and un-supported for at least 12 years and Classic mode is soon to end. And here I am tied to the proverbial wagon wheel unless Apple completes Pages as a comprehensive office word processor by adding a full featured merge function. With the release of Bento, I thought it would be the companion data base for mergeable template documents in Pages, but I can haven't seen anything that looks like it. Please Apple, get on the stick and get a release of Pages out with a full featured merge function in it to save us long time, loyal Apple fans from the horror of having to use MS Word as a primary word processing application.

Nov 7, 2009I really like wallpapers. I have probably several hundred at this point. There are so many I can't pick one, and have the random wallpaper feature enabled. My pictures are arranged simply by their content. I used to have the wallpaper worthy ones on their own, but that got to be a mess. So the wallpaper worthy ones are mixed in with ones that are just plain the wrong dimensions. That makes the shuffle feature hard to use. So I thought of using a smart folder..except you apparently cannot add a smart folder to the wallpaper pref pane.
Well, iPhoto is too much of a pain in the butt for this, although it does the job. So is copying to a dedicated folder. I want them stored on the disk ONCE, in their original folders! My next plan was to use the smart folder to make it easy to get them all in one place anytime, so that I could do a select all followed by a cmd+option-drag to get aliases to ALL of them into a dedicated wallpapers folder. That seems to be working. The wallpaper pref pane WILL see a pile of aliases as the originals wherever they amy be. (I now have to add the word "wallpaper" to most of my wallpaper's spotlight comments to make this work. Automator time).
Ok, method sucessful! If anyone else wants to use the method I described in my second paragraph (pros include the images are properly sorted AND available as a collection for the wallpaper pref pane, without using iPhoto or the files actually getting stored in more than one place on disk)....well, this simple little Service will help. It will add a space followed by the word "wallpaper" to the end of the spotlight comments field in any and all files it's fed. This allows you to easily batch-tag your wallpapers for Spotlight, which makes accessing them, and getting the pile of aliases for the pref pane easy to do.
OS X :: Any Way To Disable Safari Top Sites Feature
Nov 15, 2009I love safari. Its fast, looks great, and does everything I want it to. Outside of poor flash support (I hear macs in general are just bad for flash) everything works. What I don't like in safari is the top sites feature. I don't mind that it keeps track of which websites i visit most often, but I hate how it takes a little snapshot of every website and saves it in the website preview folder in the cache.
I didn't know you had to manually delete it and when I did it was taking up over 1.5 gb of space (/user/library/caches/com.apple.safari/website previews). I don't understand why apple couldn't have just made top sites show your most commonly visited website (like chrome or opera) and instead had to take on the website previews. Is there a way to disable top sites or at least prevent it from saving previews of websites everytime I use it?

Feb 2, 2010I really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides. I just got my first Macbook Pro, about a year old running Leopard, part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ). I am getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.
Two questions however:
1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank.
2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles). Is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? For instance, I know it wipes everything on close. I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?. Or running the initial safari video).

Apr 15, 2010So, been playing with it and I don't know if it translates as well to the laptop world. I love when i use it on the iPhone but it feels a bit 'funky' using it on the trackpad. Maybe it's me, but it just doesn't feel quite right. I am going to give it some more time but I personally may be turning this feature off.
