I just accidentally removed my SD card from my USB reader when I was zeroing out data from it. I've inserted it in again and have now zeroed out the data about 4 times in the MS-DOS format, now whenever I try to insert it into a camera or printer it will say it's not useable despite being able to use it on my Mac. Any ideas? I'd rather not have to go buy another SD card.

just a lil information needed here. It seems to me that everytime i format and zero out my external harddrive the time needed to zero it out gets longer andd longer, the first time took roughly 3 hours, then it jumped to 5 and now its at 7 hours. is this normal??? why is this happening am i damaging the drive by zeroing it out?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm selling my 17" Powerbook so I decided to zero out the data with the "rewrite random data" option -- I always heard "7 pass" but I'm pretty sure it said "8 pass" when I clicked it. I started this on Tuesday afternoon, and now it's Friday night and it's still not finished! It's a 100g HD, and I clicked the drive at the very top of the list -- the one with numbers, not what I would call the "sub-drive" of that which actually included the letters "HD". Usually when I would wake up in the morning, I could see some progress, but in the last 24 hours there hasn't been any. It says "Creating Partition Map". Is it normal for it to take this long?? Do you think it's frozen? I think my buyer is going to get impatient -- what can I do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI realise this topic has been discussed a lot so I apologise if this new thread is a repeat of another - I searched for the question I want to ask but couldn't find anything. Basically, I'm confused about the zeroing out data process. I need to be certain that it's impossible to tell if internet pages of a particular nature have been viewed on this macbook. I was feeling paranoid so I ran a 7 pass overwrite. However my CD drive doesn't work so I was unable to do anything with the grey setup CDs. Nothing seems to be particularly different following the overwrite - the files on my desktop had been deleted but that was all I could notice (I am a beginner mac user though). So now I'm not sure where I'm at. Would the 7 pass have overwritten all the sensitive info I wish to make unrecoverable, even without using the setup CDs?

Was successful in missing the bin but must have dropped it off the dock & now I can't figure out how to replace it.
I would actually prefer to just have a 'shortcut/icon' for 'my pictures' there instead, as 99% of the time I clicked stacks I would go there.

The CD slot is so close to the memory card slot, and I usually find them by feel as they are on the far side of the computer. I have to actualy stand up to peer around the side of my screen. While trrying to retrieve the card, I heard something drop, presumably it has droped inside somewhere.

I connected my windows removable disk to my colleague's mac to transfer some data. Accidentally her system started a time machine backup on my removable disk. Although we stopped it during middle of the process, now my disk is no longer recognizable in windows and all I can see under a mac system is her backup file.
The process took a very short time. I wonder if it has deleted everything. Is there any chance I can get the overwritten data back? They are very important to me.
Besides, is it a common problem of time machine backup? It is too dangerous for the removable disks.
This process deleted all my current text history, call history, photos, music, ringtones and apps! It replaced all of that data with my old iphone 3G data (data being music, texts, call history, photos, music.) It's like my phone went back in time.. This all happened when I backed my phone up last night. I guess I accidentally backed my phone up to my old stuff. I don't know if I have my iPhone 4 info backed up somewhere..

Both were only recovering the files that are still "present" on the card and not the ones deleted. Is there something else I can do? Please help as the files(photos)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a Satallite dish system and two routers. I have router B plugged into Router A. Router b Everything is disabled, DNS, Gateway, **** like that, including DHCP. Router A has DHCP enabled, MAC Address Filtering, and DNS and Gateways for the dish system entered. I'm running this setup for my little out post in Iraq. The dish is plugged into the "uplink" port in back of the router, Both Linksys, btw. So I've got 30 people or so on this router, and some one, i fear is passing alot of crap and hogging all the network bandwidth. I suspect SpyWare/Adware of Virus problem on one or two machines. Is there anyway to setup my Mac or a Windows Machine to accept all the data through a network card, and then pass that data up to the satallite dish? I just need to see who's sending all this data and the Linksys logs are crap.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi just got my brand new macbook pro 15" 2.66 ghz i7, 4 gb ram, high res, 500 gb 7200 rpm hdd, and I am ecstatic this computer is SO fast it blow my mind all over the table, the question i have is about the SD card slot, is there limit on data transfer for the SD card slot or is it limited by the speed of the card? i have a 16 GB sandisk extreme 2 that transfers @ 15 mb/s and a 4 GB sandisk extreme 3 that transfers @ 30 mb/s so can i transfer at those speeds or is it buffered? i tried importing 1 GB i had on the slower card and it transferred extremely fast but i cannot remember how fast the usb 2.0 was because i never really paid much attention.

Then along came 10.4.x and broke the version of CUPS I was using (I think that was the story.) So I backed down to CUPS v1.2.12 which I've been using since then. (The details are a little foggy so I apologize for possibly not having release versions definite.) Since then, like anyone else using CUPS I've had to reinstall CUPS every time I apply an Apple system update. Are you aware of any means to remove CUPS v1.2.12 and return to using the Apple-supplied printing components?

Whenever I go into iTunes I get a message that there is a download that still needs to download. this is from an album I purchased over a year ago. For some reason the album downloaded but it is still sitting in the download que. So everytime I open iTunes it ask for my password in order to complete the download. How can I just delete the thing? When I right click and select delete from the drop down menu it goes away until I close iTunes and open it back up again. When I actual try to download the purchase I get the following message:
