ICloud :: Accidentally Backed Up New IPhone 4 With ITunes And Deleted All Current Data?
May 27, 2012
This process deleted all my current text history, call history, photos, music, ringtones and apps! It replaced all of that data with my old iphone 3G data (data being music, texts, call history, photos, music.) It's like my phone went back in time.. This all happened when I backed my phone up last night. I guess I accidentally backed my phone up to my old stuff. I don't know if I have my iPhone 4 info backed up somewhere..
I have multiple iphones, one for personal use and one for work. I would like to backup and recharge both on my MacBook Pro but do not want the information on the personal one to be on the work one. My personal iPhone is 64 GB and the work one is 16 GB so the data from my personal iPhone would would not fit on the work iPhone Both are running iOS 7.1.2 and the MBP is 10.9.4
I use a shared Mac, on which I would like to have also some of my personal iCloud data (reminders, calendars, etc.).A Time Machine backup of this Mac is made on a regular basis, and I want to know if my iCloud data would be saved into the backup drive via Time Machine.Â
In other words, when I set up an iCloud account on a Mac, does the iCloud data remain on Apple's servers or is it actually downloaded, updated, and saved somewhere locally, and therefore is subject to a Time Machine backup unless it is specifically excluded?
This has happened twice to me. Each time I've gone from an iPhone to a different OS phone, either ALL my music disappears from my MacBook or (as most recently) a portion has deleted..... And if I try to rebuy the songs, it says I already have them? but they aren't there....I respect iPhones, but I enjoy the phone I have now and don't plan on going back to an iPhone any time soon.Â
I accidentally deleted an Apple generated Genius mix. Is there any way to get it back ? To be clear, this is not a list I created by clicking on the genius icon.
Followed instructions to the letter, had media folder in the trash, opened and closed iTunes without any warning windows, emptied trash, re-opened iTunes and it says it can't find any of my files. The "media" folder on my external HD is empty.
Info: iMac 2.0Ghz/20", Mac OS X (10.5.7), iPhone 3G-S PowerBook G4 17" SD
I accidentally cleared a playlist on my iPhone 4s. When I synced with my iMac, it actually cleared my playlist in iTunes as well. I thought syncing was always from the mac to the iPhone, not the other way around.Do I have a setting on that I shouldn't?
I have deleted all my photos from iPhone 4 but iTunes still shows that I have 981 photos taking up 1.75GB of space. The reason for my deleting the photos, after I moved them to the cloud, was to save space.
Having a bit more time, i stuffed up my iTunes library and can't fix it and would really appreciate any kind of advice.
A few things reg my mac and myself before I come to the core of the problem:
I have a macbook air, no 'extras' inside (normal 1.6GHz) and it's running at home with an airport and an external HDD of a few gig to store my data and backups. OS is Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540).
I am not a mac specialist and just started using mac roughly over a year ago and never got the real 'cores' but bit by bit I get there (I thought ).
And just btw I am not an english native speaker so I may phrase things 'funny' from time to time
I have my music, videos etc on my ext HDD and a copy of music on my mac as I like to have it with me 'on the road'.
As I was the only user it was just in my 'Music' folder
My bf just moved in and is wrapped by the mac anyway and had a user for a while. With his new iphone I *wanted* to copy the music to Users/Shared so we both can have it in our iTunes
This proofed to be not that easy as I couldn't give him access rights even though the music was in this 'shared' folder. With the 'information' of each folder I tried to give him access rights (rea & write) but even by doing so for some folders and their sub-folders, I still can't import these files into his library. So there are my first (hopefully quite basic questions)
How can I give him access to all these music folders so he can load them into his iTunes? As I would like to prevent to click each folder and sub-folder - is there a way to speed this up?
Standing for this problems and having messed up my music a bit as the links of my itunes weren't updated to the new music location, I somehow (stupid stupid stupid) tried to make it work without making any backups of my library files and without having any in-dept knowledge about iTunes and how it actually works/ stores its information etc.
To cut a long story short: my whole iTunes it totally 'empty' : no movies, music, even iphone apps are there anymore and even when I connect my iphone nothing happens. I have no backup what-so-ever and unfortunately can't give you the steps I went to mess it up that way because I just panicked along the way and didn't trace my steps or stopped at the right moment to look up some handy and useful manuals/ guides. Would love to explain an interesting and maybe challenging error for you guys but that's the boring truth.
I was wondering if it makes sense if I de-intall iTunes now completely and then re-install it and import the music/ movies into both users iTunes and make a clean set up. As it is Christmas time I have a bit of time and this wouldn't bother me too much. So the question is here: would you recommend this / agree? Are there any tipps you would give me/ things to do to make this work? And this of course still leave me with my access rights problems as all the music folders are under "shared" and my bf's account somehow doesn't have access to it. I have still a backup of that data on my ext HDD so I could delete it on my notebook and re-copy it to somewhere if I know where/ how to make it work.
Hope this is not too messy for you all to read through! I would really appreciate if I would get some hints/ tipps/ advice from you.
Oh something I forgot: before I wrote here I searched this forum and some others as well the apple standard help and tried to 're-create' my library but as deleted my rubbish bin within my mess-up-process I think I deleted the original files.
I think part of the whole problem is the missing back up and of course my half-knowledge of mac/ iTunes.
I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my iMac and now I can not access backed up data on my time machine. Time Machine will open normal, but does not allow me to click on different favorites to the left in Finder. I tried my other iMac which was also upgraded to Yosemite and even though this Mac is connected to the time machine via cable, I still can not access favorites in Finder. Seems like Time Machine is frozen.
How can I restore applications like Chess. I inserted the Macbook Pro Applications Install CD but there were only Garage Band and an another application.
I don't use a graphics tablet, so I don't need the functionality, but all the same it bothers me when I do something like this. Any way to make Ink work again short of reinstalling OS X?
Relatively new to Mac. Accidentally deleted Preview from my Macbook Pro. Sorta a bummer in terms of viewing PDFs and other image files. Have searched Apple.com but haven't been able to find a place to download the program and reinstall.
is there anyway of getting it back? is it in the Mac OS X install DVD? if it is, will it format my hard drive, my apps or anything? im kinda scared to pop it in...
I just bought a mac book air and i want to transfer all my data from my iphone 4s to my new itunes account without affecting my the data on my phone. Im hoping to keep all my music, ringtones and playlists exactly how they are on my phone now. Is this possible? I dont want to start over again with making ringtones and creating playlists.
I am a bit desperate because I accidentally deleted all my phone contacts using iSync. Previous to the sync I had my contacts in my mac address book, but I deleted them to make a fresh list from my phone. Therefore my address book was empty when I did the sync. I thought that the contacts from the phone would be copied to the computer. But instead, when I did the sync all the contacts from the phone were deleted! I did a search in google and found that the version of Address Book under Tiger kept a file called ddressBook.data.previous that contained your contacts before the last change. But I cannot find that file in Leopard. Does anyone have an idea of where that file is? Or does anyone have a suggestion about how to recover my phone numbers?
I was trying to add my home folder to my dock from dragging it from the finder sidebar to the dock, but it wasnt draggable. It did drag, but it wouldnt stay in the dock, when I let go of the drag, it vanished in a puff of smoke. How do I get it back in the sidebar, it was pretty helpful over there. Just to be clear I'm talking about when I open a new finder window, I see a few folders under 'Places' --> Desktop, Applications, Documents and My name which is the home folder. Now all I see is Desktop, Applications, and documents. How do I get it back if possible, and when I do how do I put it on the dock? Next to apps and downloads folder? Nevermind I found out how to add it. CMD+, for finder prefs, and then sidebar. I still have no idea how to put the home folder on the dock now.
I accidently deleted all of my inbox emails (nearly 200). I thought I clicked on "sent", deleted them, and then emptied the "deleted" folder. But, I deleted the entire contents of "inbox" and then emptied the "Deleted" folder. Am I sol or can I retrieve them?
