Windows On Mac :: Setup To Accept All Data Through Network Card

Mar 25, 2009

I've got a Satallite dish system and two routers. I have router B plugged into Router A. Router b Everything is disabled, DNS, Gateway, **** like that, including DHCP. Router A has DHCP enabled, MAC Address Filtering, and DNS and Gateways for the dish system entered. I'm running this setup for my little out post in Iraq. The dish is plugged into the "uplink" port in back of the router, Both Linksys, btw. So I've got 30 people or so on this router, and some one, i fear is passing alot of crap and hogging all the network bandwidth. I suspect SpyWare/Adware of Virus problem on one or two machines. Is there anyway to setup my Mac or a Windows Machine to accept all the data through a network card, and then pass that data up to the satallite dish? I just need to see who's sending all this data and the Linksys logs are crap.

OS X :: Unable To Setup Time Machine / Backing Up Data On Windows Xp

Dec 30, 2007

I really love Time machine and I'm using it on my internal drive. I know it not the best way to secure data. That why I'm planning to buy external hard drive. I read time machine and backup data on network drive, running leopard.

I'm wondering is there any way to setup time machine to backup my data on network hard drive running Windows XP. I use my macbook with my windows desktop PC for internet and sharing file. It would be great if time machine can backup data on my windows desktop network hard drive.

ITunes :: Keep Asking To Allow/Accept Incoming Network Connections

May 17, 2012

This is my sis's Mac mini, running the latest Lion OS and latest iTunes version 10.6.1  Her mac mini is on our home Airport Wireless Network.

Whenever she launch iTunes, she gets this pop-up message:

Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming nework connections Deny and Allow buttons.  Every single time have to click 'Allow' to continue.

Check the Firewall settings, it's on.  Inside Advance Settings the iTunes allow all incoming connections. This is not really annoying and disturbing, but have to allow almost every day when iTunes is launched.  The other way is to disable Firewall.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Java Accept Incoming Network Connections?

Mar 13, 2012

I have several home security cameras that utilize Java.I've had them for years. But just in the past day, I've begun noticing a lightning fast popup that comes flying by and leaves so fast I can't even read it. It happens when I first launch one of the cameras in either Safari or Firefox (likely would do the same in other browsers too. I finally had to use a screen recording app to be able to record when the pop up flies by.I then slowly scrolled and paused on the message. It is a standard security message that says, "Do you want the application "Java" to accept incoming network connections?"

There is an ALLOW and DENY button but there's no way the popup ever is on the screen long enough for you to even read it, let alone click on a selection.  I see lots of other posts about this around the discussion forum and I see how I could go into the Security preferences and perhaps allow network connections there, assuming I can figure out how to point to the correct piece of Java code (System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk???) But my bigger question is why now? I haven't done any updates in the recent past and I log onto to these cameras every day...  Granted this popup goes by fast but it is noticeable...  Had it been there a week ago I would have noticed it...  But no...  It just started today. Why? And why would any message that seeks a user choice automatically appear and then disappear within a fraction of a second?

Applications :: ITunes Asking To Accept Incoming Network Connections Every Time

May 27, 2010

Because I have Firewall enabled, everytime that I launch iTunes, I get a popup asking me: "Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections?" I click on "Allow." But unlike other applications where this process is only asked once, the first time you launch an app, I'm asked this every time.

I've talked with AppleCare about this, and the representative told me it may be because I've disabled "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library," because I prefer to organize my music folders my own way. She offered 2 work arounds:

1) Enable file sharing of my Music folder. It didn't work. The prompt still occurs every launch.

2) Reinstall iTunes. However, admittedly, she said this may not necessarily resolve the issue as it could simply be because I'm not using iTunes' file location by enabling "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library."

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Also, if I reinstall iTunes, will I have to re-add my Library to iTunes or are the relevant database/album covers files & folders retained?--it took a few hours for a collection of my size to be added.

OS X :: Zeroing Out Data Without Grey Setup Disks - Possible?

May 31, 2010

I realise this topic has been discussed a lot so I apologise if this new thread is a repeat of another - I searched for the question I want to ask but couldn't find anything. Basically, I'm confused about the zeroing out data process. I need to be certain that it's impossible to tell if internet pages of a particular nature have been viewed on this macbook. I was feeling paranoid so I ran a 7 pass overwrite. However my CD drive doesn't work so I was unable to do anything with the grey setup CDs. Nothing seems to be particularly different following the overwrite - the files on my desktop had been deleted but that was all I could notice (I am a beginner mac user though). So now I'm not sure where I'm at. Would the 7 pass have overwritten all the sensitive info I wish to make unrecoverable, even without using the setup CDs?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Migrate Data To A New RAID Setup?

May 6, 2012

I've been trying to migrate data to a new RAID setup, but have been running into the error code 36 issue where Mac created invisible files are killing the file transfers. At any rate, I tried about three different directory cleanup utilities and for the most part got almost all the data to move. Now I'm onto the last bit which was giving me permissions errors as well.I used Batchmod to make everything read write and I ALSO CLEARED THE XTARS. Worked like a charm and everthing transfered. HOWEVER. Killing the extened attributes of the files turned them all into Executible files with no program ownership. BTW, there are font files so there are hundreds of them. Is there anyway to re-assign them or get some of the attributes back?

Hardware :: Setup Network With N And G Speeds?

Mar 8, 2009

I searched but couldn't find anything about this. I'm fairly new setting up networks. I have an AEBS with wireless N (NOT the new one which would solve my problem). I also have a Belkin wireless G router. I would like to set up a network where my new macbook can take advantage of the wireless N speed and not be slowed by my wireless G devices.

Current setup:
iMac (early 2006) wired to AEBS (G speed max if wireless)
iphone 3G wireless (G)
PS3 wireless (G)
Macbook wireless (N capable)

Is there a way to setup my AEBS so only the macbook sees it so it gets full wireless N speeds then use the Belkin G router for the other devices?

IMac :: Disk Utility RAID Setup - Backing Up Data

Jul 11, 2010

I have a couple of questions regarding backing up my external drive. I've got a 2TB external drive with about 1.5TB of movies, Music etc. I've got another identical empty drive that I want to keep a backup of the first drive on. So my question is what is the best way of backing up this data? I thought of using disk utility(I'm running snow leopard 10.6.4 if that makes any difference) to created a mirrored RAID set. If I plug in the empty drive then create the RAID set will my first drive get wiped when the set is created? or with it leave the data on the first drive intact? Or should I just use something like crashplan to backup to the 2nd drive?

Mac Pro :: 09 Final Config - RAID Setup - Graphics Card

Feb 23, 2010

Meeting with my IT dept this afternoon to go over final configuration options for the 09 MP I'm getting. I've monitored these forums for the past month, and I think I'm close but have a few more questions. Note: This will be the first Mac in an all-PC environment. No one at our help desk is trained to support Macs.

1. RAID setup - Based on another thread I started, it seems to make sense to go with the 640 GB system drive, an Areca ARC-1212 card, and 3 x Western Digital 1TB RE3s. By my calculations, this would be a better setup for half the cost of going with the Apple RAID and their 3 x 1TB drives.

My IT dept realizes this, but no one here has much experience setting up RAIDs, let alone on Macs, which they will be learning to support on the fly. Because of this, they are leaning toward the Apple RAID card, if only for Apple support reasons. Can anyone who has experience with Areca vouch for their quality of tech support and/or the ease of setting this up? Does going with a non-Apple option for a RAID have any effect on the Apple Care warranty?

2. Graphics Card - To use my existing (PC workstation) setup of 2x24 dell monitors plus a 19 preview monitor, the Apple rep said I would need the 2xNVIDIA GeForce GT 120 option (plus the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter option) to run a non-Apple display for the third monitor. He mentioned they do sell more powerful cards to handle my same monitor setup, but they would have to be purchased separately and wed still have to get the one I just mentioned.
