I have a 1gb flash drive that i've connected to my macbook. There are no files on the flash drive yet it shows that there is only 97mb's available on the flash drive.
This is so odd to me, but am sure i'm not the 1st person to come across such a situation.
I have a flash drive that I purchased yesterday. The first time I stuck it in it was read like expected. I ejected it correctly, everything was fine. Now when I put it in, it doesn't show up on the desktop or in the finder. However when I unplug it I get the message saying it was not removed correctly.

New member. Just got myself a new MacBook pro i5 15' to replace my old MacBook. I noticed when I opened the system profiler under ATA it said no hard drive was present or selected or something to that effect. Everything is running beautifully on the machine but I was just curious why nothing showed up. Any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a (newly) mixed network - Mac OS X 10.3 and Win XP Pro. I have two internal hard drives in each machine. After downloading SharePoint I was able to see the second Mac HD from the XP machine. I can't for the life of me find any reference to accessing the D: drive on the XP machine from the Mac box. It seems to me that using "Finder->Go->"connect to server" forces you to log on as a user and then only gives you access to user level and below. In other words you can't get to "My Computer" to access other drives. Links don't appear to work so I can't set a shortcut (tried the "nethood" folder under the user account but they are only links and didn't get me anywhere). I have all sharing turned on. Can access the user folder no problem. Just can't get to upper level resources.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have successfully connected a couple of times to a firewire external hard drive connected to my dad's iMac over the internet (AFP server) for the purpose of backing up some files, but now it doesn't show up at all as a volume when I connect to his iMac through finder/go/connect to server. I don't believe that any settings were changed, so don't understand why it isn't showing up. Currently when I get info on the drive 'shared folder' is checked, everyone has permission to read and write and 'ignore ownership on this volume' is checked and file sharing is enabled in system preferences/sharing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Western Digital External HD and am using an emac computer. I left my hd plugged into another mac for a week while I was on vacation, it was working fine. When I got back it was not showing up on the computer, and would not show up after I unplugged it, restarted, etc. I thought maybe it was the computer, but it will not show up on mine either. I cannot be sure the hd was not dropped, but I was told that it was not dropped. Anyway, it turns on when plugged in and makes noises like it's working, and the lights are on. It just does not show up on my computer. My friend said this is probably a case problem, but I don't know what to do in general about it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this qualifies as a hardware issue or a software one. I recently swapped out from a PC to a iMac. I wanted to keep all my old files so I pulled out the internal HDD and placed it in a HDD Enclosure and connected it via USB 2.0. Now the Mac recognized it and all seemed well, but a hidden folder I need access to doesn't show up on my drive. If it helps, this drive was the master drive on my old PC and the file I'm trying to locate was on the desktop.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI found a strange glitch with file permissions when accessing a network drive, on Lion. I am accessing my internal drive on my iMac over Wi-Fi from my MacBook. I am logged in under my user name. I notice that for every file on the remote drive (on my iMac), "staff" and "everyone" are ready only, but read & write access is reserved for "macports". Macports? It does not list my own name as having read & write permissions, and so I cannot save any file to this remote drive. When I access the drive locally on my iMac, the permissions appear correctly for the same files, i.e. my own name is listed as having read & write access. Is there some kind of glitch where the file permissions are misread when accessing a drive over the network?

It use to show up and run just find but lately it hasn't been showing up on the desktop or in Finder. However, it shows up in Disk Utility, which shows that nothing is wrong with it. Obviously I'll have to manage with less storage space, but apart from that, what is the difference between the two drives? Will the newer one in the Air be faster, as it is an Apple custom component rather than an off the shelf part?
I think the new Air is great value, BTW. The SSD in my MBP cost a fortune (but it is really really fast). Also, before anyone says "just keep the MBP", my assistant wants one, so I'll be buying either another MBP or a MBA anyway.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PNY attache hook 16gb flash drive was working for about 2 hours with my macbook, but I ran into a problem with itunes and was forced to restart my macbook pro. The usb was only plugged in, no files on it, none in transfer. After the restart I pluged the usb back in and it no longer shows up, I tried using "diskutil list" in terminal and it didn't show up. I have tried all the usb ports on my macbook and it still does not show. Did I somehow corrupt the drive so much that it doesn't even register in terminal? Should I try to get a refund? Or, can I fix this some way on a software/firmare level?

I have a Macbook pro (OSX 10.4.11) and all of a sudden it stopped detecting a fairly new Jump/Flash drive that up until now worked fine. The icon doesn't show up on the desktop or in the Macintosh HD window.
The flash drive has "Dane-Elec" printed on it and is 4GB. I've tried it a number of times and nothing. The drive does still work on other computers, and my usb port is working properly with other devices.
The flash drive doesn't seem to show up in System Profiler and my Disk Utility has been "gathering information" for about 5 minutes now." Everything else is working fine with the notebook.
I have a cd copy of ubuntu that works fine but is really slow.
I installed to a usb drive multiple times and keep running into the same problem: The flash drive shows up as "Legacy OS" in rEFIT and boots into my windows partition when I select it. It doesnt show up when I hold alt/option on startup. It also doesnt show up in the startup disc menu in system preferences even though its on the desktop.
I have used different usb drives and, like I said, have installed it multiple times. Every site I have gone to uses the same installation method (using ubuntu from a cd) and I dont understand why it wont work.
I have posted this probably in other sections and no one ever responds so Im hoping this will change.

My macbook pro is hardly a few months older...i5 2.4ghz, 4gig ram, 500gig hard drive but the bootcamp in my os x lion doesn't show usb option to install via flash drive. Will I always need a dvd to install windows on my machine. I was trying to install windows 8 customer preview through bootcamp neither did windows 7 install.

I work for a post secondary school with online formatted classes. We send flash drives out to students to access video content when they are on the go, but it was pretty much made for Windows based computers. I have had a few students now who have Macs and cannot open the content or are getting a message stating the drive is not formated. I see many instructions on how to format a flash drive from a Mac to work on a Mac & PC but nothing about being able to format the flash drive using a PC so it can work on a Mac.
