OS X :: 97mb Shown On My 1GB Flash Drive On My Macbook,?
Aug 10, 2009I have a 1gb flash drive that i've connected to my macbook. There are no files on the flash drive yet it shows that there is only 97mb's available on the flash drive.
This is so odd to me, but am sure i'm not the 1st person to come across such a situation.

Aug 14, 2010New member. Just got myself a new MacBook pro i5 15' to replace my old MacBook. I noticed when I opened the system profiler under ATA it said no hard drive was present or selected or something to that effect. Everything is running beautifully on the machine but I was just curious why nothing showed up. Any ideas?

Mar 2, 2009I have a (newly) mixed network - Mac OS X 10.3 and Win XP Pro. I have two internal hard drives in each machine. After downloading SharePoint I was able to see the second Mac HD from the XP machine. I can't for the life of me find any reference to accessing the D: drive on the XP machine from the Mac box. It seems to me that using "Finder->Go->"connect to server" forces you to log on as a user and then only gives you access to user level and below. In other words you can't get to "My Computer" to access other drives. Links don't appear to work so I can't set a shortcut (tried the "nethood" folder under the user account but they are only links and didn't get me anywhere). I have all sharing turned on. Can access the user folder no problem. Just can't get to upper level resources.

Mar 27, 2008I have successfully connected a couple of times to a firewire external hard drive connected to my dad's iMac over the internet (AFP server) for the purpose of backing up some files, but now it doesn't show up at all as a volume when I connect to his iMac through finder/go/connect to server. I don't believe that any settings were changed, so don't understand why it isn't showing up. Currently when I get info on the drive 'shared folder' is checked, everyone has permission to read and write and 'ignore ownership on this volume' is checked and file sharing is enabled in system preferences/sharing.

Jun 18, 2009I have a Western Digital External HD and am using an emac computer. I left my hd plugged into another mac for a week while I was on vacation, it was working fine. When I got back it was not showing up on the computer, and would not show up after I unplugged it, restarted, etc. I thought maybe it was the computer, but it will not show up on mine either. I cannot be sure the hd was not dropped, but I was told that it was not dropped. Anyway, it turns on when plugged in and makes noises like it's working, and the lights are on. It just does not show up on my computer. My friend said this is probably a case problem, but I don't know what to do in general about it.

Oct 30, 2010I'm not sure if this qualifies as a hardware issue or a software one. I recently swapped out from a PC to a iMac. I wanted to keep all my old files so I pulled out the internal HDD and placed it in a HDD Enclosure and connected it via USB 2.0. Now the Mac recognized it and all seemed well, but a hidden folder I need access to doesn't show up on my drive. If it helps, this drive was the master drive on my old PC and the file I'm trying to locate was on the desktop.

Jun 7, 2012I found a strange glitch with file permissions when accessing a network drive, on Lion. I am accessing my internal drive on my iMac over Wi-Fi from my MacBook. I am logged in under my user name. I notice that for every file on the remote drive (on my iMac), "staff" and "everyone" are ready only, but read & write access is reserved for "macports". Macports? It does not list my own name as having read & write permissions, and so I cannot save any file to this remote drive. When I access the drive locally on my iMac, the permissions appear correctly for the same files, i.e. my own name is listed as having read & write access. Is there some kind of glitch where the file permissions are misread when accessing a drive over the network?

Sep 26, 2010Woke up my laptop from sleep with the 400 port connected to a video deck and the 800 port connected to a raid and a simple external. Power was 'off' on the video deck, power was on for the raid and the simple external HD. Running snow leopard, my externals weren't showing up, no matter what I tried, including power cycles, reboots, unplug/plug, etc. Then for some reason I removed the cable in my 400 (connected to the unpowered deck) and with all else being an original configuration, both my of externals showed up in the finder.

Sep 13, 2009I have a 13.3 inch White Macbook from late 2007. I have a Mini-DVI to Svideo and Composite connector and I've bought both an Svideo Cable and a Yellow male to male composite video cable. It seems I've tried almost everything and wasted hours but the most I've been able to get is: sound and a tripled, Greyish, grainy image of the movie on the TV. My tv doesn't have any other connections and with the svideo no picture shows up at all, just the sound. I've tried every display option on my macbook, tv and in my video player but nothing seems to work.

Jul 1, 2008I just got a new 1.6 MBA but it is going back tomorrow. It has screen bleeding showing like mountains on the bottom and top of the screen. In addition, it is HOT (CPU 63-83 C). Way hotter than what I tested at the store (CPU 40-60 C). In addition, it has a tiny flicked (ripped) paint at the back which I am somehow ok with. I just wanted to share this with you and know if any of you facing similar issues? I have never ever seen screen bleeding in MBAs before since the MBA has the "best" screen ever. I hope that I'll get a better replacement.

Jul 18, 2009The backlight still lights up behind the keyboard but only brightly in a V shape in the middle of the keyboard, the rest of it is very dim.
This happened to me a while back and I just got the laptop back the other day. They had put in a new keyboard (along with a new hard drive and optical drive - but those are another story).
Just now, my backlight came on since I turned off the room's main light and turned on a small lamp and lo and behold...the backlight is messed up again! Same as it was before, I know for a fact it was working earlier today.
All I've done is change the ram and use migration assistant to get a couple things over. I'm not sure how I could have damaged the light by taking out the 3 screws for the ram door...I didn't put barely any pressure on them. I'm not sure if either of those two things caused it but I'm shocked.
Now I have to give up my computer again. Nearest apple store is over an hour, it was 3 weeks last time I gave my computer up (gave it to school's IT crew, who forwards it to apple - but I get a loaner this way).

Jun 14, 2010I'm fairly new to Macs, I just got my Macbook back in March and I haven't had any problems with it until lately. Last week I sent a few very large emails through my mail client which is attached to my gmail account. I'm not sure what happened but while sending them, one in particular, stopped. Now, every time I open mail this email shows up under "On My Mac" under recovered up to 35 times. (Sorry, it's currently 71.) Since it's a huge email it's slowing everything down and making it impossible to use mail. On occasion when I try to delete it my entire mac freezes momentarily. I've tried deleting it in the folder but it always comes up again when I open my mail client and multiplies.

Jun 4, 2014I've been having a problem with my WiFi-connection for at least two weaks, and to me it seems as if it started with the latest OS update I installed. When I turn on my computer the wi-fi connection sets up just as usual, with a strong signal and the networks I frequently use. I can run my browser, e-mail programs and downloads just as I'm used to, everything works fine - and then all of a sudden connection is lost while the wi-fi symbol still shows full signal. When I open the menu to see what networks I can connect with, there are no networks shown by name, the signal-symbol sill having all its stripes filled.
It is neither a router or network problem, because the same happens when I'm on campus and my girlfriend has no similar problem with the connection on her MacBook (nor have I on my iPhone).

OS X :: External HD Shown As 'read Only' On Mac?
Apr 15, 2009i have a sony vaio external hard drive, and i formatted it using my PC, and it worked perfectly fine - i can read / write files to the HD.
however, it was shown as a 'read only' HD once i plugged it to my Mac.. i even tried it with my friend's Mac and the same thing showed.
i tried to repeat the formatting and plugging with both my PC and Mac over 10x time and it's only giving me the same result.
does that mean my mac is not compatible with the HD?
