5870 Mac Edition, I was considering flashing a PC 4870 or 4890. I had been browsing through Cindori's first post in the 4870/4890 flashing thread, and noticed that the cards shown in the pictures are becoming very hard to come by.

Can any of our GPU gurus hazard a guess at whether these will benefit those of us with flashed cards, or will they more likely brick them, or do we just not know until we test them?

I will recive my mac pro after two weeks. I believe that I am going to upgrade when I recive it.
With the recent Steam for Mac release, I have been thinking about getting a new video card again, however I am looking for reasons to get it. So I am just wondering will I see any speed improvements if I used a better video card on Aperture 3 (running 32bit because I use nik software)? I also use FCP, Photoshop quite often.

So im wondering if this has been solved by ati in newer driver updates, and im wondering if anyone with a radeon 5870/5850 dekstop gpu and confirm this working with a imac 27" screen.

I'd really like to buy one and do this, I know there is the natit fix but that is a no-go for me as I need the boot screen on my mac. I also need dual DVI ports as I have dual 23" cinemas.

I just ordered one and plan on doing a clean install of snow leopard and installing the card at the end of the week. However, some of the links from rapid share don't appear to be working. Can some one point me to where these files have moved and are there an snow leopard specific files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just recently decided to take the photos from my MacBook to my father's Dell to backup my files. However, most of the folders have slashes like this - "/", and windows will not accept these, so I had to rename every single folder (hundreds). What I did was just type in something random. Anyways, the pictures in my iPhoto Library show up for a split second and then they turn to white perforated boxes with exclamation marks because the source of the image obviously cannot be found.
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I just bought and installed an (Apple) ATI 4870 for my '06 Mac Pro. It's all gone pretty smoothly, however I have noticed that flash video playback from sites such as Youtube and Vimeo are jerky. Have I missed something about installing a 4870 into an older MP? I thought it was basically plug and play - even though it's not officially supported by Apple. Quicktime movies are nice and smooth. This is under Snow Leopard, so I'm not sure if the problem exists under Leopard but I could probably move my last bootable backup drive into an enclosure with firewire and check things out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSome of the emails I receive from friends show a placeholder for an image. The placeholder has the filename (example.jpg) in the top left hand corner. In the centre of the placeholder is a tiny blue square with a question mark. Is there a way to display the pics in the email along with the text. Funny stories are not quite the same without the pics! I can preview & download the images with no problem. So it looks like the images are there, its just that mail doesn't want to display them sometimes?

This is so odd to me, but am sure i'm not the 1st person to come across such a situation.
I have a flash drive that I purchased yesterday. The first time I stuck it in it was read like expected. I ejected it correctly, everything was fine. Now when I put it in, it doesn't show up on the desktop or in the finder. However when I unplug it I get the message saying it was not removed correctly.

My school only uses Apple computers so I don't think there will be a networking problem(heard there can be some unfriendly networks towards macs?). View 7 Replies View RelatedI have successfully connected a couple of times to a firewire external hard drive connected to my dad's iMac over the internet (AFP server) for the purpose of backing up some files, but now it doesn't show up at all as a volume when I connect to his iMac through finder/go/connect to server. I don't believe that any settings were changed, so don't understand why it isn't showing up. Currently when I get info on the drive 'shared folder' is checked, everyone has permission to read and write and 'ignore ownership on this volume' is checked and file sharing is enabled in system preferences/sharing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Western Digital External HD and am using an emac computer. I left my hd plugged into another mac for a week while I was on vacation, it was working fine. When I got back it was not showing up on the computer, and would not show up after I unplugged it, restarted, etc. I thought maybe it was the computer, but it will not show up on mine either. I cannot be sure the hd was not dropped, but I was told that it was not dropped. Anyway, it turns on when plugged in and makes noises like it's working, and the lights are on. It just does not show up on my computer. My friend said this is probably a case problem, but I don't know what to do in general about it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought HIS Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 for my Mac Pro 2006 1.1. The first problem I've found it that card will not fit to slot 1, because of too long screws. So I installed it in slot 2, leaving 7300GT in slot 1. The next problem was how to get rid of these power cables - I've tried the more elegant way taking that molex adapter under HDD trays, but cables where too short So I installed them on the right of Superdrive's tray. Now on Mac OS X I got kernel panic (probably the injector thing). On Windows Vista card is detected, but automatically disabled (probably not enough power or just PCI-EX 1x slot is not compatible). Here are photos from the operation. I'll try to install Accelero S1 rev. 2 with Noctua 120 mm fan and will see how things go I've also ordered two special Apple PCI-EX power connectors from Austria.

I used a new USB flash drive this morning to transfer my pictures to. It showed it was transferring them then the screen went blue and nothing responded. I shut down the computer and unplugged everything but now when I turn the computer back on it shows my home screen and I can see the mouse icon moving around but I am unable to 'click" on any of my programs and get a response.

Went and did the bootcamp thing and installed Windows 7. I tried to connect my HD external via firewire, but it would not show up in Windows. This is after I did a backup of my mac to time machine. Will it work after time machine backup?

It use to show up and run just find but lately it hasn't been showing up on the desktop or in Finder. However, it shows up in Disk Utility, which shows that nothing is wrong with it. I've been lurking for far too long...so here goes my first post! So I've read through the whole of Cindori's thread titled "Ultimate Thread: 4890 in Mac Pro", trying to figure out exactly which Radeon 4890 would be a compatible and reliable solution for flashing to work on Snow Leopard 10.6.1, Mac Pro 1,1. To my disappointment, I'm more confused now than I was when I first started reading the thread. Why? because cards have gone through revisions and what was working then, now no longer works or has problems. Example: Sapphire cards seem to be what to look for since that was what Cindori used, but "newer" Sapphire cards, even though they may look like reference cards, don't seem to work; older XFX cards worked (and only ZDFC from what I understand), but newer revisions no longer work, etc.
