I have two new iMac 20", did the update 10.5.3 for both units unit A now won't load safari, when i downloaded safari 3.1.1 it won't install "this needs 10.5.2" but "about this mac" says 10.5.3 tried software update again, and nothing to update. Unit B--same update, but safari runs fine.
some suggested that we reinstall safari from the install discs that came with the computer
I just had a minor catastrophe when my Mac crashed whilst optimizing after a software update. Disk Warrior run from a network drive highlighted many overwritten files and ultimately I had to bin the HDD and fitted another. Fortunately, all my personal files seem to have been recovered and it was mostly applications and their components which suffered. I've gradually been re-installing things but have noticed that when I view mpg's in Safari, all I get is the progress bar and controls and all white, no image. I've updated QT to 7.3 and am running 10.4.11 as my ancient G3 PB won't run Leo.

I know I can back up from my Time Machine by going to ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist and restore.. however I can not locate the file?
I know that ~/Libray is hidden so I went to Finder and pressed option GO and library displayed... I then opened TIme Machine and attempted to find the bookmarks.plist under Safari on an older backed up copy and the file was not there..
It seems that the Top Sites thumbnails almost never get updated. I have sites that are updated multiple times daily, and their thumbnail on the Top Sites page still show what they looked like days ago. Even when I click on one to read it and then return Top Sites, the thumbnail doesn't get updated.

Stuck on screen with apple logo. No curser, nothing.
Last try got stuck on a blue screen that alternated tones of blue every few seconds. Was able to start up in safe mode ( held shift). Finder loaded after a loooong wait. Once there I used Disc Diet to empty caches- this usually help to get rid of the rolling beach ball. Wasn't able to do much at all- all with rolling beach ball. Restarted without shift key- stuck on apple.
Should I uninstall Safari?

It doesn't work for me. I wonder if Glims is conflicting somehow. A reboot got it working, but it's a bit buggy. Sidebar won't turn off. Contextual searches aren't loading.
View 5 Replies View RelatedGood morning, I recently updated my software via Software Update yesterday, and I noticed that I can no longer play Flash videos in Safari. I just get the generic lego block and it says that Flash unexpectedly quit. I'm running the most recent Safai and Snow Leopard, and have included a screenshot of the updates that I ran yesterday. I also tried to run Camino and FireFox, but they just quit when I get to a Flash video. I also tried to install the most recent Flash player, and also the newer beta Flash player, but none seem to work. Anybody know of any fixes? Do I have to reinstall Snow Leopard?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought the macbook air (1.6/80) at bestbuy for 1299. It was the last sealed box, woot. Curious though, this doesn't occur on my other laptop so I know it's not bandwidth issues. I am watching office at full screen, half way into it the video starts to stutter bad. I don't mind the cpu fans going full speed, or the heat, because that's the nature, however I can't stand the stuttering. Has anyone had experience in Revision 1 and watching hulu and getting it not to stutter half way into the episode?By the way nothing else is opened and/or running. Just safari. I also installed Flash 10 and updated the MBA completely with 3.2 safari
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz Imac and I am running Snow Leoprad 10.6.8. The problem I am having is that since I recently updated Safari, I cannot run Youtube videos. Every time I try watching one, the page crashes. I know I am not alone here and I am surprised Apple has not approached this situation yet. I have tried running youtube videos on Firefox and have had no problems doing so, thus I figure it must be Safari. I've tried running safari in 32 bit mode and that is also not fine. I have emptied the cache and reset Safari as well but still no go.

I bought my first mac last month , it was 1year old and came restored to factory condition osx 10.5.4 .All was well until after i updated to mac osx combined 10.5.8. I liked the updated safari but lost my iphoto so had to restore back to factory.now i have all my programs back but cant update anymore, it just tells me that it will need to restart then hangs for hours saying configuring instillation .If i try updating using installer it tells me that i cant .

Running OS X (10.9.3) and Safari 7.0.4. Can't print pdf files from Safari and sometimes can't download them either (error says they are corrupted) but I can download from a windows laptop. I found something online about disabling a pdf plug-in, but it was for Lion, so not sure if it's still the correct fix. Also, how to uninstall a plug-in unless you provide exact locations of where the plug-ins are stored.

I am farily new to macs in general and am confused about one thing. In windows, you can always update the browser regardless of your windows version. OS X 10.2.8 is not all that old but I cannot update safari to 2.0.4 like in 10.4.7. Is support for 10.2.8 discontinued? Am I forced to use firefox if I want an up to date browser? BTW, this is on an old Beige G3 so 10.2.8 is the highest OS.

It works fine under other users, but not my user account. It also works fine when I launch my back up system on the other hard drive. I have tried reinstalling Safari and deleting preference files, but haven't been able to get Safari to launch.

Especially on pages with a lot of images, and most websites I view have lots of images. It's constantly freezing, I always get that spinning rainbow, etc. I want to go back to Safari 3, but I can't figure out how. The safari4 dmg doesn't come with an uninstaller. And I can't re-download Safari 3 because I have a newer version on my computer. What can I do?

The iPlayer itself is fine as is any other Flash content but the embedded news articles don't work. I've tried uninstalling Flash and re-installing as described elsewhere on this site but to no avail. I have the latest Flashplayer installed and it's the version recommended by Adobe.

I've been having an incredibly slow time with surfing the internet, and this has been going on for a few weeks. In order to make sure it wasn't due to the history or the cache, I've repeatedly erased them multiple times, cleaned up my desktop to make sure I didn't have any sort of files that could've potentially attributed to this, and have 700 GB left on my Mac, which should be plenty of space to not be considered full. It takes anywhere up to 30 second to a minute and a half to load a webpage.
Adding onto the frustration, loading or even watching a YouTube or any kind of video is just a pipe dream. Anytime I even click on a video, it just makes any that I click on to be one second long, then just suddenly end the video. Either that, or it pauses and takes forever to load. Before I went to school and work, I decided to test to see how long it would take for a five minute video to completely be able to watch so I left it paused, then left for the day. I came back twelve hours later, and it wasn't even half way done.

I recently got an external hard drive and that worked great.but about a week ago when i turned it on it wouldn't log in, kept rebooting in safe mode, said my password was incorrect, for about a day, tried lots of stuff, nothing seemed to help, the next day it was more or less fine (i was someplace without internet) the airport symbol was gone from the top but next time i connected it came back when i changed the internet settings.
