View 8 RepliesMy new DVD burner will play CDs and DVDs and burn CDs, but will not burn DVDs through the finder. Will getting TOAST definitely enable me to burn DVDs? I don't really need it otherwise and I would rather not buy it unless it will definitely enable me to burn DVDs.
This is my burner:

I tried to burn a DVD for a first time on my MacBookPro and nothing is happening. I tried to burn CD and it works. I can play a DVD for ex. but I can't write? I used Verbatim DVD-R Advanced Azo +. The problem is when I clic to burn the Toast window shows preparing and after that nothing is happening, like everythings just stops. I have to restart my MBP to eject the DVD. When I put it again, it shows that is empty? Do you have any clue? I used Toast 8 Titanium.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to burn DVD on my macbook pro (late 2008) using Disk Utility and Burn and I always faced a message that says: " The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this sic drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed". I can burn CDs just fine .. but when it comes to DVD +R +RW +DL I cannot ! I have important files that I need to burn but I can't due to this problem. I'd like to mention that I have tried 2 different DVD brands with the speed of x2 and x4 with no luck!

I have been trying and trying to burn some CDs and well as DVDs but have no idea how to do it. Could someone lead me to a link or give me directions on how to do it please? I usually use Nero on my PC, but would hate to go back n forth for this operation. Also, I rip alot of my DVDs as a back up as well as to watch them on my HD player. Normally I would use DVD Shrink on my PC. Am I able to do the same on Mac or do I need an additional software?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but my iDVD is not compatable with the version of OSX I am running. I can't even burn music onto a DVD from itunes. CDs work fine though.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSeveral years back I tried burning DVDs using the internal DVD drive on my iBook, and what happened is that everytime I burned files to the DVDs, I couldn't go back and add more files. So I was only able to save files one time, then the DVD was no longer usable for burning files. I know there is a setting that will allow you to continue saving a few files at a time. How exactly do I do that?

Because it was a simple burn, I was going to use finder. For some reason, I can't. This is the window that pops up when I try to choose "Open with Finder" Code: The operation cant be completed because you dont have the necessary permission. Not sure whats up with that seeing as I am admin on my MBP. I have repaired permissions and that didn't work. Weird still, I can burn in iTunes and Toast. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a TV series as a package.
It is .AVI, and I had to use Perian to view it in QuitckTime.. no biggie.
However when I went to burn it to a CD I gave BURN a shot. It had to convert the files in order to be able to create a DVD player compatible DVD.
This process was taking forever...... Is this normal with any program?
What about using iDVD or other DVD making software?? Would it be any quicker at converting?
Open to suggestions....
The DVD ejects before the process ends, and is blank. I have an iMac running Lion. Significantly, nothing at akll comes up about disc burning in the 'About My Mac' utility.

I've tried the two fixes suggested on Apple forums without success. The first was to trash the com.apple.finder.plist and the second involved removing the battery, hold the power button down, and pressing alt, command, R, P and the power button down until I heard the two chimes. Neither worked.

I have dual layer DVDs and want to burn the same small movie on both layers, one would be full screen, the other wide screen so the viewer can choose.
Is this possible? Is it just a matter of burning one movie at a time; will the comp recognize which layer is empty after the first burn?
I had tried to write several DVDs and CDs before, and they failed (it turned out to be that they were already used DVD-Rs), but the burn folders for them are still on the sidebar in Finder, as shown in the pictures below. I have large archive files from work (each ~10-20 GB) that we'd like to just backup onto DVDs and store in a safe. Obviously, each individual file is too big to fit on a DVD (even the double layer ones). Is there a "compress and split" sort of software that could be used for this?
