I am getting errors when I attempt to burn my back-up Snow Leopard .dmg in Toast 10 or Disk Utility. Is my superdrive faulty? Here are my error messages.
View 4 RepliesI can burn CD-R and DVD+R but I am having a problem burning a cd that is DVD+R DL. Every-time I try to burn that kind of CD through either Toast or Disk Utility I get an error message that says "Unable to burn. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.". I know my SuperDrive is a DVD+R DL it shows it in the system information. Is it mabye the CD i bought? the one I have is Memorex Doublelayer DVD+R DL 8.5gb, 249min, 2.4x

I then can add files for it to burn on a dual layer DVD .... but when I press the Burn button ... the program ends up sending me continuous messages of it can not burn and repeats this message in a never ending cycle.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to burn DVD on my macbook pro (late 2008) using Disk Utility and Burn and I always faced a message that says: " The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this sic drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed". I can burn CDs just fine .. but when it comes to DVD +R +RW +DL I cannot ! I have important files that I need to burn but I can't due to this problem. I'd like to mention that I have tried 2 different DVD brands with the speed of x2 and x4 with no luck!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use Toast to burn DVDs. But recently my MBP Superdrive has been refusing to play ball. Whenever I insert a DVD and set up Toast to start the burn, I get:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x73, 0x0x
I also own an external DVD/CD drive (USB2) which I use with my little ASUS. So, I plugged my external drive into my Mac and tried Toasting again. But:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
So, either my Superdrive is fragged, or my external drive is fragged, or both. But the external works fine with my ASUS. And it sounds like a longshot both are fragged with the Mac. Maybe the DVDs I'm trying to burn to are fragged. Or it's a software glitch in Toast. Or....
my Superdrive is fragged for writing. Other posters have had problems with their Superdrives too. BUT my external is fine. So it must be either Toast or the DVDs, right?

So I was only able to save files one time, then the DVD was no longer usable for burning files. I know there is a setting that will allow you to continue saving a few files at a time. View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to backup a few .avi files I have onto DVDs and after reading over the forums I have aquired ffmpegx and Toast 8. I place the avi file into ffmpex, encode it with the dvdffmpeg format. But once i burn it with toast, it takes the original wide screen avi file and stretches it to full screen.
I tried re-encoding with the DVD 16:9 setting selected with ffmpeg and it seems to look better in a preview, but when I try and burn the Video_TS folder in Toast it gives me the CSS Encryption disk error, which I do not understand because I'm not copying a copyrighted dvd.

It all started last week when I tried burning an ISO to a blank Memorex DVD-R. When I inserted the DVD it would eject the CD over and over again no matter how many times I tried. The same thing would happen if I used a Memorex CD-R. Now these CD's worked in the past without any issues, and seem to work just fine on my other computers.
I decided to go out and buy a different brand of DVD-R's at Office Depot, thinking the laptop just wasn't really into these DVD's anymore. I ended up buying TDK DVD-R's. The computer seemed to like these more because it didn't eject them when I placed them into the drive.

I was burning an ISO to a dvd in Disk Utility, and it gave me the message "Verification of the burn failed" So, I tried running the dvd, and I didn't get any error messages. Do you think the disk/iso/whatever is good to use?

I convert videos to dvd-video format using the absolutely brilliant windows7 application convertxtodvd. Please dont tell me to use a mac application instead of it. I tried it many times, there were always several problems(slow speed, subs etc). This is not the case here.
So, I want these dvd-videos in Video_ts format, to be burned in dvd disks using toast. It is supposed that video_ts folder are a standard folder, no matter the system you use. But toast has a different opinion. When I drag the folder in the dvd-video window, it asks to re-encode the video!!!If I try to burn this video_ts folder in windows machine using 'nero', no problem at all, straight burning! I really cannot understand why this happens.
Another problem I have is that the files I want toast to burn, usually reside to network computer. Is there any way to burn files from a network computer(win) using toast? Can toast access network or not? If not, I have to manually copy files to local disk, several minutes spent for copying gigabytes just to be able to burn them.
I had tried to write several DVDs and CDs before, and they failed (it turned out to be that they were already used DVD-Rs), but the burn folders for them are still on the sidebar in Finder, as shown in the pictures below. It's not necessary, but I would like to get them off, so is there any way to do it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't burn a disk, any disk. Toast was working fine but now won't launch. I reinstalled it twice, threw out the preferences, tried launching it from different users (including Administrator), repaired disk permissions, ran Disk Warrior to rebuild directories... Toast still won't launch. So, I turned to the Disk Utility to try and burn a disk, the "Burn" button is always greyed-out. Serious Voodoo, I can't burn a thing even if I were a fire bug.

Running Disk Utility's Repair Disk function from DVD, how long should this take to complete with a 1 TB drive? It's been nearly 24 hours so far. I booted the computer from the DVD, and after verifying the disk was told the disk needed repair.

im running mac os x 10.4.6 on a g4 powermac. ive got toast 9, but whenever ive tried to burn a cd, it gives me the following message " sense key = illegal request sense code 0 x 20 invalid command operation code" and then "couldnt set up the track for writing"
although I have been successful in burning a cd from itunes. im guessing its something to do with the settings, but im completelyey stuck.
So I have an ISO file that I need to burn onto a dvd, and i bought some double-layer DVD+R's at the shop... And apparently it doesnt work. I mount the image, and then click on Burn.
A pop-up appears for like 2 seconds saying: Finishing Burn. The CD comes out, blank as ever...
I was trying to burn a few MP3 for a friend of mine today outside of iTunes (ripped from flv). I threw in a CD-R and was prompted to choose what to do. Because it was a simple burn, I was going to use finder. For some reason, I can't. This is the window that pops up when I try to choose "Open with Finder" Code: The operation can�t be completed because you don�t have the necessary permission. Not sure whats up with that seeing as I am admin on my MBP. I have repaired permissions and that didn't work. Weird still, I can burn in iTunes and Toast. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to burn a .cdr file to a dual layer dvd using Disk Utility. I got it to work once, but I tried four times. I think that it must be very sensitive or something, because I can't figure out any other factor that affects it.
Has anybody else run into this problem, and if so, what's your solution? I think it may have to do with vibrations of the disk drive or something, but I would be lying if I said I knew that for sure...
My HDD died recently and I cannot get booted into OS X. It just hangs on the grey screen with the apple. I am (was) running 10.6.8
I am having a lot of trouble trying to boot from my install DVD. First of all I purchased a new HDD which came with Lion pre-installed on it. This worked fine, except when I tried to restore my latest time machine back up it used up 200GB of my disk space but nothing is restored? No doucments or music anywhere, photos, nothing. There is no change at all except half my storage has disappeared. I had posted another question on here and the reply said to use setup assistant, which I could not locate in Lion? I then tried to install Snow Leopard back over Lion but it would not let me. I tried to boot to the install disk but it just hung at the apple screen again.
I gave up and bought another brand new HDD but it won't recognise it on boot up. I just get a flashing folder with a ? in it. I tried to boot into the install DVD and again it wouldn't do it.
I then went back to my original HDD, and tried to boot to the install DVD from that (I hadn't tried this first off as my install disk was elsewhere and I purchased the Lion HDD as a stop gap measure) and it STILL wouldn't do it? This is now the original disk with the original install DVD (10.6) issued with my macbook pro when I purchased it and it will not boot to the DVD. Why why why?! It is almost enough to make me bin the lot and switch to windows.

I have a problem with my internal SuperDrive where it is saying that blank DVD's are not writable. When I insert a blank disk the Mac recognises it is a blank disc as the Blank DVD Options box appears but when I actually go to burn a disk the burn will start then immediately fail saying the disk isn't writable. From Disk Utility I get the following info from a blank disk: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J:Firmware Revision:FEW7 Interconnect: [code] It doesn't matter what brand of disk I buy (have tried Verbatim, Bulkpaq, Sony, Tesco & Asda) I get the same issue. All these disks have then worked fine in my girlfriends PC (yuk!) laptop so I don't think it is the disks themselves that are at fault and the fact it is happening with different brands points to a problem with the drive rather than the disks. The drive seems to be working ok as it will play DVD's ok.

My Macbook (late 2008 aluminum unibody running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) is having a plethora of problems - Spotlight won't return any results, I can't get any .dmg files to mount, and software updates can't be installed. Many of the solutions I've found involve running Disk Utility, but every time I try to open it, it crashes.

I often add very large files to my system before compressing them, sending them to clients, and then deleting them. This process leaves me constantly thinking about how much disk space I have free. Disk Utility, and an Apple approved app called DaisyDisk (space visualization) typically help me accompish this. Sadly, as of this week I seem to have a problem. When I went and looked the other day Disk U was telling me that 250gb of my 320gb drive is in use. This seemed high to me, but to be safe I thought I'd delete some files I didn't need. After deleting a bunch of videos, and a backup of my Main Identity (19gb) from my system, I'd assumed I had freed up about 24gb, but when I went back into Disk U it was still showing the same 250gb in use. Yes I rebooted my system, and made sure the trash was empty.
As I investigated further I did a get info on all 6 folders on the MacHD and they added up to about 170gb. That seemed more realistic, so I did a get info on my MacHD and again it showed the same thing 170 in use and 148.something available. Note: I have no partitions on this drive. But yet, still when I go to Disk U it seemed to be stuck at only 64gb free. Today when I went and looked again I am still seeing the same amount in use and free on the MacHD get info, but on Disk U now I am seeing 108 free and 211 in use. Why the difference? I would think Get Info was pulling from the same place as the mac disk utility.
