My G5 fan is running loud and hot a lot of the time. Very loud. My Power Mac G5 Quad is the last one made before Intel came along. I've downloaded Temperature Monitor software, but I can't fine out what normal temperature ranges are. If any one can help me find out more, please email me gruel@mac.com

version: 10.5.8
processor: 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5

I have a MBA:
Model Name: MacBook Air
Model Identifier: MacBookAir2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 1.86 GHz
Recently I have noticed that the fan is now running far more than it ever used to. I only have to call up a couple of web pages and off it goes. The fan almost never used to come on, unless I have really using the processor, so wondering what the likely problem is.
recently my MacBook has been running very loud when i only have like, 2 applications open. This started maybe 3 days ago. The 2 applications were iTunes and Firefox. on iTunes i just play music and on Firefox im on Youtube or RuneScape. It's been running fine ever since i bought it just over an year ago (playing the same applications) but now its started to get loud when i use it.

I've just purchased a new Macbook. I'm very happy with it aside from the fan noise, which seems a little loud to me. Now, before I bring it into the Apple Store to have it looked at I just want to check and see if maybe I'm just being overly picky. I downloaded iStat, based on some Google searching I did on the subject and my fans are running around 2000 rpm, which I understand is normal. But in my apartment, which is admittedly quiet, I can hear my fan running constantly. It isn't extremely loud, but it isn't totally quiet either. I'm just wondering what level of noise I should reasonably expect out of my Macbook.

So I got my macbook pro yesterday and I've been doing some basic stuff on it. While I was installing World of Warcraft, the computer jumped up about 101 degrees celcius. I know I shouldn't trust istat pro 100% but still, my fans are running super loud and the computer is very hot to touch. I'm not running any heavy programs or doing any gaming. I had Aol Instant Messenger on, and WoW instaling in the background. I'd like to also add that when opening various programs I get the spinning beachball very often.
View 8 Replies View RelatedLast Night after installing a new hard drive into my mac pro. I reset the system to format the drive. However when i turned it on, Straight from bootup the fan was running extremely fast and sounded like a jet engine. This did not stop through the system fully loading so figured I would turn off the machine for the night and see if the problem would be fixed in the morning. But the same thing just happened again. Does anyone have any idea what this may be, or how to fix it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy white MB is 4 weeks old, everything is great. Earlier I play movie online & suddenly I heard the fan running, istat shows 4500rpm, is it normal? Normally the fan runs at 2000-2200rmp.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought my new IMac on friday. Worked great for a day and then I had a problem. The fan came on really loud for about a good 10 secs and the screen turned off. I hit the power button and the screen came back on quickly like it had went to sleep. However, the fan came right back on very loud and the screen went black. I did this a couple times until I just let it shut down for an hour because I thought it overheated.
The next time I turned it on it worked fine for about 3 hours and suddenly the fan came on super loud. This time the screen didn't shut off and I was able to continue but it was abnormally loud. This morning I turned it on again and within a minute the fan came on AGAIN. I have to mention that I'm not using any intensive application or anything. The last time I think I only had safari up. Also, this is my first mac and it's not looking promising...
Just got my Macbook air and it's making loud fan noises after I use it for a long time. Is there anything I could do to prevent that. Or should I be worried? just want to be careful with my computer
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was noticing a lot of slow-down while playing computer games on my MBP. My computer far exceeds the minimum requirements for everything, so I reckoned it must have been something other than a slow processor (2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo), low ram (4 GB) or a completely inadequate graphics card (Nvidia 9400M). The games range from 'Day of Defeat: Source' to the 8 year-old 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein'. After a bit of research, I came to realise that my exhaust fan is never speeding up past 2005 RPM no matter WHAT the load on the CPU is. To test this, I downloaded smcFanControl and ran CPUTest. As the CPU went from 50*C to 95*C, there was hardly any change in the fan's speed. The variation went between 1995 and 2005 RPM.
In order to keep the computer relatively cool when playing games or doing anything that is CPU-heavy, I have to manually increase the fan's RPM in smcFanControl. I find that setting the fans to the maximum, 6000 RPM, keeps the computer cool enough to process these games. This program works wonders and I've not had any slow-down in games as a result. However, I am worried that there might be something wrong with my Mac. Why does it not automatically increase fan speed when reaching higher temperatures? I've even reset my SMC (SHIFT-CONTROL-OPTION-Power) on start-up just to be sure I've tried everything. Any suggestions as to why my fan seems stuck at 2000 RPM?

I was out of town so this description was second hand but the computer has been running a little weird for a while. When I have too many apps open or on a website that has a lot going on...the computer starts revving up until I quit out of everything and let it slow down. I guess while I was gone, this happened but nobody quit out the apps and it eventually turned the screen black. When I tried restarting it sounds like the computer is working but the screen is black so I can't see if it is booting up or not. I took the monitor into the apple store yesterday and it started up right away for them. It's a cinema 23" I think.

I just bought my MacBook Pro last week. When I power it up, it makes a loud noise for about a second and a half. I think it's the hard drive starting up or the disc drive. I'm not sure which one, but it's pretty loud, so I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this and if it is normal.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI really like the new design of the Magsafe power cord connector. But both designs still put stress on the cord at the connector, if your Macbook is moved. I hope Apple gives the Magsafe a swivel, so the cord can move more freely as the laptop is moved. Am I the only one thinking this would be a good idea?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've now seen 2 machines have a logic board failure from letting the battery run dry (which shuts the computer down). I suspect the voltage regulator based on what I've seen and reading up on what the board level repair guys are finding. My question is does letting the battery run out stress the voltage regulator and is this situation to be avoided at all cost?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm eyeing the mini right now because os x >>> windows for music (inherent midi drivers instead of 3rd party, stability, etc etc).amittedly I currently run a hackintosh on a previously windows pc. It is stable with the exception of gfx crashes every few hours and its inability to use the gfx card to its full extent. This gets to me though and is kind of a bitch. So I'm thinking about getting a mini when I have the money for one. I would get the standard with the 4gb ram option. How well does it deal with heat under stress? and is the HDD 7200 rpm for the non server edition?(edit: roarrrr just read that its 5400, so lame)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been playing a bit of Poker using the PKR application (It's a cider port from what I've seen). I'm finding that on my iMac (and not my MacBook Pro), after playing for a while the graphics go a little bit screwy then it freezes the entire system. To try and diagnose the problem I want to see if it's the app or the GPU which is causing the problem. Does anyone know how I can stress test the GPU?
What's odd is that even though the app seems to be very CPU and GPU heavy, I don't really notice any fan noise from the iMac. I'm just concerned that it may be overheating.
I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

Do we have any controls that will tell the drive to sleep when it can? it seems like the second HDD is always spinning.
I already set the options in "energy saver" to sleep when possible, but the drives still spin even when I am not using them.
I had a trojaner-but i deleted everything from the Harddisk-
During the deleted HD the Fann was running too!

why is my mackbook air fan running all the time?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast summer my MBP 2.3 GHz C2D was heating up so much, you barely could touch it. So I decided to give it a little hardware checkup. Finding the fans completely stuffed with dust
But after a while i recognized that the fans went on high rpms (around 6000) already at startup and did not lessen anymore. I do not have any high capacity processes running and the temperatures are not just not warm buth rather chilly, so no need for high fan speed. Now I want to solve this problem as well but seemingly nothing will work.

For the past couple of weeks I've noticed that my old white macbook is running hot, and browsing has been kind of slow. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in the processes, but Heatsink A is reading -1. Should I just pull the machine apart and see if something isn't connected anymore? I installed a 7200 RPM HD a few months ago, but this problem is more recent.
