Mac Mini :: Loud Noise At Startup And Wakeup / Sound Goes Away After Heatup
Sep 10, 2007I just got a mac mini on thursday, went on a small trip on friday-sunday. When i came home to my sleeping mac mini and woke it, it made a TERRIBLY loud fan clicking noise. My old PB 12" made this noise after I had dropped it on floor from about 3 feet. I didnt drop my mac mini, i barely used it for 2 hours before i had to leave on my trip. The sound eventually goes away though, once the mini heats up a little i guess. So i'm pretty convinced it's the fan, but why would it suddenly do this?

Oct 20, 2009My brand new MBP 13" (Mid 2009) makes a high pitched whiny sound that appears to come from the upper left corner ( where the MagSafe connector is). It is not caused by the display because even when I turn it off (the display) the sound is still there. It goes away when I turn off the computer, tougth. Also it's not caused by the MagSafe because when I disconnect it the noise doesn't stop. I have used gogle and the forum search and found people with the same problem. Those people could fix it by starting photobooth. Same works for me. So I guess it's the processor. What I want to know is: is this normal? Because most of the other people who I found who have this problem had a 2006 MBP not a 2009 like me.

Jun 6, 2009On my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back.The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.
This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.
If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.

MacBook Pro :: Hinge Cracky - Makes Loud Clicking Noise
Jul 7, 2009My 17" Macbook Pro was purchased on Feb 24th 2009 via telesales, so it's less than 6 months old. The hinge is very creaky and on the right hand side it makes a loud clicking noise when I open and close it, also the whole screen seems to creak, not just the hinge. The wall charger is in my opinion very loose, it was loose when I got it ( should have changed it then ), but I haven't really moved it that much ( maybe 10 times in the space of 5 months and this is also becoming a concern. I contacted Apple today and they told me I have 1 year of telephone support and 3 years parts and labour as I order though Higher Education.
They told me that I can go to a Apple store or authorized repair centre to have it looked at, but all the stores are 2 hours away. I asked about mail-in repairs and he said that could be set up but they would prefer if I went to a store. The question is, should I send it in and hope they take care of my Mac i.e don't scratch or mark it etc. After reading some stories about repairs, I'm a little concerned about it, and don't like anyone to touch my Laptop. Obviously I would prefer a replacement as I have work to do and I don't want to be without my Mac.

Apr 5, 2012Just got a brand new macbook pro, and eve since I first started it up it has made this weird noise right before the start up audio. i have done some research and i have found out that there are two superdrives that apple puts into their macbooks and that one is louder then the other, but this was back in 2009. should apple have fixed that through out all these years. what should i do?

(which i finnally got by mail! >) anywho at first i thought it was deleting something but nope nothing! then today i did check the trash bin and i found 2 folders both were named "backup" one was named backup the other backup#1 i opened up the folders and i just found a flash file! yes i do have adobe flash cs as well, but i hardly use it so i am not sure if i some how put a setting that makes something get deleted...! is this a flash software setting? or a mac. setting that i have on? if so how can i make it stop? im not even removing a thing from my dock! there it goes again it made that noise just now! aghhh! oh and if it is a flash problem then why does it make that dock noise shouldn't it make a trash bin noise....?

Jun 18, 2008Hey guys, got a little issue here. I have had a MBA since about march of this year. Just recently I on two occasions the computer has all of a sudden had this loud high pitch whine. It has only happened twice and at both times (if I remember the 1st time correctly) I wasn't really doing anything on the computer. Today specifically it was just sitting idle on my desk. Not sure where its coming from maybe speakers? Any idea to what this is? Should I be setting up an appointment to see a Mac Genius?

It started doing it again about 5-10 minutes ago and just stopped as I began typing this post. Does that sound like it could be the fan making the noise or the hard drive? When I plug in my earphone or headphone without any sound playing, there's a clear whining noise like zi zi zi sound which is really clear, sounds like old 80s radio noise. Nov 17, 2010My family just recently upgraded from an old PC to this 27" iMac, during the early part of the summer. While using it over the last little while, I would notice a noise that sounded like a harddrive spinning or possibly some sort of a fan noise. The best way to describe it would probably be as digital noise. It's not incredibly loud, but it's a decent volume, and can get quite annoying. It has a little bit of a squeak to it.
Over the last little while, it's become more constant. When the computer is in use, it'll usually occur quite often. It's quite annoying and obtrusive when I'm watching videos and I'd like to know what it could be.I think our computer is still under warranty, so I'm hoping to find out if it is something wrong, so I can get it replaced.
I've also been wondering if it's a fan, or a regular noise. However, it's so constant that I'm starting to wonder. The other night, I was watching a video and it seemed like it was coming on every 30 seconds for a long span of time. We don't run any memory heavy programs on this computer. If anything, we're just using Firefox, iTunes and/or Messenger. Sometimes Office. There's little to nothing stored on this computer, as it's brand new, so most of its memory is free.

Jan 31, 2010I want to tighten the touchpad so it doesn't sound so loud whenever I click on it. But I can't find the correct size allen key for the battery screw. Does anyone here know what is the exact size for the screw for the battery and what type of screw driver to adjust on the touchpad? I know I can use a flat head screw driver, the main part is to get the battery out of the way.

IMac :: Extremely Loud Static Noise / System Crashes To Black Screen
Oct 13, 2009Very occasionally the screen on my iMac (early 08 24") goes blank and it makes an incredibly loud static sound that's independent of the volume control setting. The power then needs disconnecting to restart the machine. Haven't been able to tie it to any specific program. Apple Care asked I leave it on logged in on a new user account (at the time I originally thought it only happened in sleep mode, but have since discovered this is not the case).
It's happened maybe 3 or 4 times in the same number of months. I've only found one similar case on the net, with someone suggesting it was Safari 4 beta, which I've found not to be the case with mine. It's on extended warranty. I think there's something seriously wrong with it (it's already had the hard drive and power supply replaced).

Oct 30, 2008Ok the patient here is a new 2.0 Ghz Macbook. I just woke it up- or tried to. the sleep light was on solid, not pulsing with as it does when sleeping. It didn't respond to key presses of track pad presses. It did power back on after pressing and holding the power key. The desktop was greyed out and a metered progress bar came up and it slowly booted bakc up then resumed as normal. Is this that deep sleep mode, or is this something else?

MacBook Air :: Rev. B Screen Makes Clicking Noise - How To Fix It
Jan 13, 2009- When I clean the screen with the included cloth or any cleaning cloth, the screen makes a clicking noise. As if it's like not flushed against the bezel. This only happens on the left part of the screen from, top to bottom. If I wipe in the center, no problem at all. I was wondering if anyone of you is experiencing the same problem? Btw, I also have the lines, but its very faint and I don't notice it as much as the my 3rd replacement Air, which I exchanged for this one. The Apple Store said that if I had any more line problems with this one, they won't replace it anymore and they would just try and replace the screen. I don't know if my problem is a common one and worth it to send my computer out to get its screen replaced, and who knows, maybe the replacement screen might have the lines and that's why I'm worried about getting the screen replaced, in addition to being out of my laptop for a couple of days.
