Spam has greatly increased in my inbox. It was not a problem before. How can this be improved?

My website host says spam is being sent out from my computer over my private email account and I should scan my computer for virus or malware. Which app should I use? I checked my Macbook Air, iPad and iPhone and none show any emails being sent other than the few I have sent. Website host says they are coming from my computer and going through his server.

I'm using Mail. Up til now, I've had no problems. Recently my paypal acct was accessed by a third-party overseas. Since then I am getting nearly 200 e mails a week that are marked undeliverable. The e mails are almost always addressed to weird overseas addresses but are probably bogus anyway. I don't know how this happened or how to fix it. I can't even check my e mail on my iPhone because I'll be deleting mail from Mail Delivery System for ever. Is there ANYTHING I can do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs I do not yet own a Mac, I am intrigued by the Apple Store Assistants comments that the Email client can be put into some sort of learning mode and will learn to filter spam out.
Is there any guides on how this works and how well does it actually work ?
I have three accounts setup in Mail, and for some reason one of the accounts, the one that I need the most, is getting hundreds of junk emails daily, I tried to set some advanced settings in junk mail filtering but nothing works. One funny thing is that most of the junk mail I get is not even addressed to a name on my account, just a random name@myserver.com, there has to be a way to filter anything not addressed directly to me out, or a way to stop this period.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs a Mac newbie, I have noticed an increase in the amount of spam that I get compared to my Windows environment, in which I had used several purchased anti-spam solutions, the latest being a part of the ZoneAlarm Security Suite (which uses an embedded version of MailFrontier, which has excellent performance).
The documentation says that Mail's built-in spam filtering "will take a while to learn" from my actions. However, I have been using it for about three weeks now and a lot of spam still gets through.
I am sometimes annoyed when I have no new mail in the inbox, yet because I have mail in spam, it still shows up that I have unread messages.
Is there a way to mark all spam messages as read... or only have the inbox messages get counted?
The preface "*****SPAM***** " has begun appearing in some of the messages in the latest version of Mail (4.2) where's this come from and how do I turn it off as most of the time it is completely wrong?

How do I delete SPAM without selecting it. On my older Mac there was a way, but on my newer one I can't figure out how to do it. When I select the SPAM messages they open immediately. I'm assuming that merely opening it sends a message to those who've spammed me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just received an email supposedly from Apple, at least I thought so, that someone had changed my birthdate and security questions in my Apple acct, and they asked me if I didn't so this, to change my password. It looked like an Apple email. SO I clicked thru the email to change m password, got an https:// and entered my user ID and clicked to change my password, They said I would receive a followup email, at my email box, to continue the change. I didn't. I did it at least 4 times and NO email, to date. Then, I went to the Apple website, support, and went to 'change password' directly, and when the page came up the place where I enter my info was FROZEN! I could not enter anything. The whole page was frozen. No matter which way I entered the Apple site, I always ended up at that page, (to enter my user ID, on my way to change my password), and the page was always frozen. Therefore, I cannot get into my acct to change anything.
View 6 Replies View RelatedToday I just received a spam via iTunes. It seems to have legitimately come from Apple, as the "Received:" line added by my ISP's mail server line is: Received: from badger1301.apple.com ([17.254.6.174]) by m1pismtp01-010.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net with ESMTP; 11 May 2012
... and Apple does own that IP address. The content of the spam was: Susana has recommended that you check out Yangutu - Meet new people:Yangutu - Meet new people [URL] Mar 14, 2012Genre: Lifestyle(C) 2012 Holole Corporation iTunes for Mac and Windows [URL] This message was sent to [my E-mail address]. My iTunes account contact preferences don't permit Apple to send me any junk. How is it that Apple is allowing unknown third-parties to spam me? (And, more importantly, how do I get it to stop?)

View 15 Replies View RelatedI just switched my settings in Mail so that I'm now checking my Gmail accounts using IMAP rather than POP. This has gone smoothly save for one thing: Growl now notifies me of every piece of Spam that comes into the Spam folder on the server. Is there any way to adjust this?
Likewise, Growl also notifies me about anything new message on the server, whether it's an e-mail I have sent (added to the server-side Sent Messages folder) and also takes to notifiying me two, three, or even more times for a single message (because it comes into the All Mail folder on the server and then into my client-side mailbox in Mail)
i have manually set Privacy Level to: All Accounts; Allow only contacts on my contact list. but every now and then, i recieve some kinda spam with a website from some e-mail that even a 6 years old knows it is fake. when then recheck the privacy level. it reverts to: Block certain contacts. any spamming software being naughty?
