As I do not yet own a Mac, I am intrigued by the Apple Store Assistants comments that the Email client can be put into some sort of learning mode and will learn to filter spam out.
Is there any guides on how this works and how well does it actually work ?
I am having problem with email.. I will receive messages that mail puts in the spam folder that is not spam. I drag it into my inbox and reply to it, but the reply from the sender continues to go into spam.

My website host says spam is being sent out from my computer over my private email account and I should scan my computer for virus or malware. Which app should I use? I checked my Macbook Air, iPad and iPhone and none show any emails being sent other than the few I have sent. Website host says they are coming from my computer and going through his server.

Back on 10.3 I used a Rogue Amoeba program called Detour (I think) that allowed you to control which audio devices played audio from which software programs. I used it to send iTunes music through a USB audio device to powered speakers while playing Office apps noises through the built-in speaker. They discontinued it with 10.4 because Apple changed the way audio is handled. Question: Is there some similar app that maybe let's you control volume of each audio-emitting app? So I could turn Office all the way down (all those grating save chimes are killing me) while keeping iTunes all the way up?

I was using iMovie to make a video, but I couldn't find how to control the time in which transitions pass by. It looks like 0.4 seconds is the default time for each one, but how do you change it to... say, 2 seconds? And yes, the video before and after the 0.4 transition is not longer than it.
So I'm basically asking: How do you control the speed of a transition in iMovie 7.1.4?
Is it possible to control the value of the SMTP time out setting? Occasionally when I send an email, mail.app attempts to use an SMTP server that is available only via a VPN connection (such as the SMTP behind the corporate firewall at work). When it can't reach such a server, it takes about 5-10 minutes until it finally brings up a dialog to let me switch to a reachable SMTP host. I would like to change that 5-10 minute value to something more reasonable like 30 seconds.

The documentation says that Mail's built-in spam filtering "will take a while to learn" from my actions. However, I have been using it for about three weeks now and a lot of spam still gets through.

I just switched my settings in Mail so that I'm now checking my Gmail accounts using IMAP rather than POP. This has gone smoothly save for one thing: Growl now notifies me of every piece of Spam that comes into the Spam folder on the server. Is there any way to adjust this?
Likewise, Growl also notifies me about anything new message on the server, whether it's an e-mail I have sent (added to the server-side Sent Messages folder) and also takes to notifiying me two, three, or even more times for a single message (because it comes into the All Mail folder on the server and then into my client-side mailbox in Mail)
i have manually set Privacy Level to: All Accounts; Allow only contacts on my contact list. but every now and then, i recieve some kinda spam with a website from some e-mail that even a 6 years old knows it is fake. when then recheck the privacy level. it reverts to: Block certain contacts. any spamming software being naughty?

Lately I've been getting messages from my contacts that I'm spamming them with messages like this: "I just found the coolest site, free and full of the best movies to watch [URL] Why is this happening? I'm pretty sure I don't have virus on my mac, is it something with the Adium/MSN? How do I remove it? They do not know that they are doing it and it just appears on my messages without them doing anything. Of course, he now has all these issues and questions which he just can't seem to solve when we are on the phone (for example, he doesn't understand the difference between his Mac hardware, OSX, the Broswer and Zillow -- to him they are all "the internet," so phone support is very painful.) I'd like to take control of his machine and just install some software remotely and do some tweaks that he needs. I thought Leopard could do this, but I'm having trouble getting a help/source page on how to do this. For instance after commas, periods, end of paragraphs, etc. Are there control codes that I can put in my text files to cause the software to pause? i) when taking a screenshot is it possible to override the auto naming function i.e. open the shot to then save as? or
ii) is it possible to take a screenshot and auto-save it into a specific folder, rather than the desktop, even a single desktop folder would help me?
The desktop is a total mess and I've a 50 or so screenshots mixed in with everything else - each screenshot just seems to look for the next available space on the desktop !!!

The software always places the attachment in the mail text but does not give my Windows, Outlook users the attachment listed at the top of the message when they open it.
