I am having problem with email.. I will receive messages that mail puts in the spam folder that is not spam. I drag it into my inbox and reply to it, but the reply from the sender continues to go into spam.

As I do not yet own a Mac, I am intrigued by the Apple Store Assistants comments that the Email client can be put into some sort of learning mode and will learn to filter spam out.

My website host says spam is being sent out from my computer over my private email account and I should scan my computer for virus or malware. Which app should I use? I checked my Macbook Air, iPad and iPhone and none show any emails being sent other than the few I have sent. Website host says they are coming from my computer and going through his server.

MacMail in OS X Yosemite has the spam folder in the same mailbox as my inbox, so each time I get spam, MacMail is telling me I have new mail. How can I change it so only valid email is marked as unread, and spam is just filtered as spam? I tried moving the spam folder out of the main inbox folder but no joy.

I use IMAP email so that all folders are based on a server, rather than on my computer (learnt the hard way when my computer crashed and I lost everything). Today when I went to save an email in a folder on entourage, entourage crashed and when I reloaded the app the folder had gone. I tried again with another email and another folder and the same thing happened. When I log on to my email account using the providers webmail service I can see that the folder is still there, it just won't show up in entourage.

I've set up Gmail on my mac mail account but I cannot work out how to stop the spam mailbox getting hundreds a day. Its up to about 6000 now. I can of coruse just clear it out, but then I still keep getting messages in my 'Mail Activity' section saying that more mail is incoming and builds back up again.I know spam is not really a major issue if its just getting caught up in the rightful section anyway, but its just an irritant to get so much spam and seeing my Mail Activity box constantly active.

Appears to be countless emails sent from me and returned undelivered back to my IP administrator and then a notice sent to me. I called them- they don't seem to know or care. I have found many instructions on how to transfer your entire email "mail" folder from one mac to another... However, I need to simply transfer only one folder of emails from the 1st mac to a 2nd mac. I'm concerned that if I follow the instructions for copying the whole enchilada (copy and move "mail" from 1st mac to library on 2nd mac, and copy and move "com.apple.mail.plist" from 1st mac to preferences on 2nd mac), I might mess up or replace all the mail on the mac I'm trying to transfer this one folder to!

View 24 Replies View RelatedI would really love some help with this; I've been banging my head against the wall trying to achieve something that is seemingly so simple and basic.
We want to use an Email app that will allow us to encrypt only ONE email folder. Access to the rest of the email should be open to all users of the computer, just the one folder needs to be encrypted or password protected. Apparently this is not possible in Outlook, because in Outlook for Mac all of the folders are now integrated into one database and so cannot be encrypted individually as they can on PC.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to achieve this? I am considering using Mac's Mail, but can't find Mail file structure on my Lion machine to see if I can access the individual mailboxes separately. Does anyone know where to find Mail's folder structure? I looked in the Library but found nothing for Mail, as it used to be in previous OSs. Am open to third party software work arounds, other email clients, whatever.

When I download an attachment from an email, for e.g. an excel file, it goes to my downloads folder. All is good. Now, I also noticed it goes to a folder username/library/mail downloads/ excel file. I was not aware of this. Is this by default? Is there a way to not have files download to this folder? I only say this because I download a lot of large files that I send to home from home. They are already in my downloads folder when I save them. I don't want them also in the mail downloads folder creating double space.
