Just discovered a scratch (I think) on my 15" MBP; it's hi-res anti-glare. Now every time I use the laptop my eyes instantly land on this tiny scratch. This is my first screen to get scratched.

I have been given a 256GB USB stick by a friend. It is labelled (falsely) as Sony.
I posted in the Macbook section since my Macbook reads it as actually holding 256GB. Suspecting this is not true (it was purchased for about $50 in China) I would like to know how I can find out it's true capacity.
It is currently holding 47GB and rising...

I'm on week 3 of being a mac newbie and the proud owner of a new MacBook Pro 15" (I'm even excited about Snow Leopard arriving tomorrow .... don't remember that from my Windoze daysAlas, all is not rosy ... I've just noticed a small scratch on my screen, no idea how it got there (heads will roll if I find out!). Although it not going to effect me working on it a great deal, it is starting to anyone tried to polish out a scratch using a very fine grade steel wool ... or something similar. I know this can work on scratches on glass

I have a macbook that is about 2/3 years old - works fine and does the job. However i was babysitting a few weeks ago and took my laptop and nail varnish/remover with me all in a bag. (yes i regret it now, but they only live next door, i was intending to take it out when i got there but they are crazy little kids)Â I took my laptop out the next morning to find that i had a massive purple stain on the front of my laptop. The nail varnish remover had leaked onto my macbook but fortunately it wasnt alot, (the bag wasnt wet or anything). It's purpley colour like the remover and you can tell it has burnt it as you can feel the dented outline when you rub your fingers over it. Its not done any damage to the laptop itself which i am EXTREMMMELY happy about. I just have a very large purple blob on my mac thats all. I was wondering if anyone could help me?? Â
I've tried magic eraser a little but i didnt want to use that too much on the shiny part as it says so on tutorials not too ect. I tried general cleaner. I dont know what to do?! Dont know how much it would be to get it replaced or whatnot.

MacBook, iOS 5.0.1

Since I got my new MBA, I am afraid of closing the lid without using the factory keyboard layer fearing the keys may scratch the monitor. Am I being paranoid? I am sure the keyboard has been designed as to not touch the screen when its folded right?

I was thinking about possibly selling my MacBook Pro and purchasing the 11.6-inch Air because I'm a college student who doesn't need much more than word processing, web browsing, iTunes, and portability. But I hear that the Airs don't have the glass covering of the Pro... Is the screen itself plastic or glass and does it scratch easily?

i got a screen scratch on my Computer about 4 months ago and it is now bothering me. I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. Because on white it makes a Kind of Rainbow effect. Now i've seen 2 methods i think that could work. One is using a Combination of Tooth paste a Petroleum Jelly... while another is using Nail Polish Remover to buff it out. Link: [URL]

i just had the unfortunate incident of someone touching my screen with an object. i dont think it scratched but it led me to researching if the glass is scratch resistant and trying to learn more about the glass itself. ive read that it is gorilla glass which i think is very scratch resistant but that i believe is not confirmed. Â Â
can anyone shed light on the LCD glass they use and if it is able to withstand minor bumps/nicks/taps/ from objects like pen-caps, or a paper clip hitting it etc etc??im looking for specific info like its actual properties, makeup and scratch threshold. Â

I tested with the security setting enabled that requires password when coming out of screen saver, and the gestures still work but all I get is a black screen when gesturing up, and a 'flash' and a black screen when gesturing down.

I wanted to make a partition like this: but when I click apply, the size keeps going back to half of my hard drive. How do I get it to stay at 40.00 GB? It also shows this when I click apply, so it doesn't work anyway. How do I fix that?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the 4 finger gestures built into OSX? I've looked around and found no way to override them. If nobody is knows directly how to accomplish this I'd also be interested in knowing what libraries the handlers may reside in so I can poke around and try and do it myself.
I'm also interested in trying to find a way to make 3 finger tap do a middle click. Or something along those lines.

Maybe if they put the speakers on the display wouldn't they have more room to be able to put a full sized keyboard? Or would it make the display thicker?

Quite often, when I open up mu HD, external drive, etc. folder on my desktop, they are sized different. I then have to re-arrange them by kind, date, etc. I would like to have my folders the same width and height all the time, is this possible?

Bear with me if you already knew this, but after a few of years with OSX I've only just found it out (accidentally!)As in finder, where you can use the space bar to quick-look at files, you can do the same in Exposé hover over one of the windows and hit the space bar to get a full-sized view of it!

When attempting to turn my MacBook Pro on, I get the normal gray startup screen, two differently sized blue screens, then static. I've tried booting into safe mode and removing all login items, but that hasn't worked.

I bought my aluminum imac when it was released in late 2007. I had a 1 gigabyte stick up until now, but I decided to upgrade to 2x2 gigabyte sticks. When I took out the 1 stick and placed the new ones in, my computer would sound like it turned on, but the system really did not boot up. I have tried many configurations to see what the problem with the RAM is, and all I could figure out is that the computer will only boot up if the original 1 gig stick is in one slot. I checked both sticks with this, and they seem to register on my mac when I check the "About This Mac" section. Basically, I get a black screen if I use only a 2 gig stick, or both 2 gig sticks. I can have a maximum of 3 gigs so far, but I really would like all 4 that I paid for. I'm not so sure that it's a problem with the ram, especially because it is recognized by the system, but it can't boot up the system, so I am simply dumbfounded. Anyone have an idea what the problem is? I just recently installed Snow Leopard prior to getting the RAM if that has any importance.

So my question is simple. I have the base 13" mbp. So I have 2 x 1GB sticks. Can I get 1 x 4GB stick and make that total 5GB? Or do I have to purchase in pairs (2 x 4GB)?

I live in Canada, and no stores seem to sell any configuration that includes this upgrade. I'm more comfortable purchasing my laptop from a store than the online Apple Store. Is this true for locations in the states as well? I would like to get my MBP sometime in the next month or so, is it looking like I'll have to purchase it online?

I just bough a 13in MBP yesterday at bestbuy because they let me get my student discount and they gave me an ipod touch for free without the rebate. So When I got home and opened it I noticed a pretty deep scratch in it right above the power button about a half an inch long that wont come out if i try to clean it. My question is do you think that would be enough of a reason to exchange it? I know its only cosmetic but I really dont think that should be there when you buy a brand new computer. What do you think?
