Aug 30, 2008I was cleaning my screen (glossy) on my MPB and noticed a few hairline scratches. Are there any ways to remove the scratches on the screen?

May 12, 2010i got a screen scratch on my Computer about 4 months ago and it is now bothering me. I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. Because on white it makes a Kind of Rainbow effect. Now i've seen 2 methods i think that could work. One is using a Combination of Tooth paste a Petroleum Jelly... while another is using Nail Polish Remover to buff it out. Link: [URL]

Apr 25, 2010Is there a difference? Anything at all? I would expect Apple to make the 2010 standard res. screens worse in quality and earn more money since they have the higher res. available. I really like the 2009 glossy screen, but i have to be sure it is exactly the same this year. If they did something like that it's typical Apple.

Aug 26, 2009I'm on week 3 of being a mac newbie and the proud owner of a new MacBook Pro 15" (I'm even excited about Snow Leopard arriving tomorrow .... don't remember that from my Windoze daysAlas, all is not rosy ... I've just noticed a small scratch on my screen, no idea how it got there (heads will roll if I find out!). Although it not going to effect me working on it a great deal, it is starting to anyone tried to polish out a scratch using a very fine grade steel wool ... or something similar. Nov 1, 2010I haven't made it to an Apple shop since the new MacBook Air was announced, so I haven't seen them in real life yet . Yes I know I should be more committed, but meh I have a life too !
One simple question really; is the screen glossy or matte?
I notice that there is not an option to chose whether it's glossy or matte when configuring online . My MacBook Pro is a 2007 C2D one (one of the last with the silver screen bezel) and I had them both side-by-side in the store and chose matte. I know that these days Apple call it "AntiGlare" and charge you for the privilege (and it's not just the screen that's glossy, the whole surround is black glass), but I'm definitely gonna pay the extra for it on my next MacBook Pro .
But for the MacBook Air without having an option.... I've got a bad feeling that I'm gonna order it online and then when it comes find that it's got a stupid ****ing glossy screen and all I can see when using it outside is my ugly mug in the reflection .
So yeah, on a scale of AntiGlare MacBook Pro to Glossy MacBook Pro where would you put the new MacBook Air's screen?

May 1, 2012i just had the unfortunate incident of someone touching my screen with an object. i dont think it scratched but it led me to researching if the glass is scratch resistant and trying to learn more about the glass itself. ive read that it is gorilla glass which i think is very scratch resistant but that i believe is not confirmed. Aug 22, 2009I was going to buy a 24" ACD but have read quite a few reports of backlight bleeding, etc, so now I'm really unsure whether it's worth splashing out �528 on one, especially as my Samsung 23" TN screen has no backlight bleeding at all.
So, can anyone recommend a good 23"-24" glossy screen? At the moment, I don't mind suggestions of either TN, IPS, etc, just chuck in your suggestions.

Dec 16, 2009I have an old iBook G4 14" (from about 2004 or 2005) that was just replaced by a MacBook. The hinge on the screen is pretty much broken and the screen looks pretty terrible. I'm thinking about installing a distro of Linux on it and using it as a file server or media server and connecting it to an external display, but I would like to have the keyboard and mouse readily available and would not like to have issues with overheating because the lid is closed. Is there a way I can completely remove the screen (including the hinge) and have it still be functional?

Jun 18, 2010I've read quite a lot about the glossy screens on iMacs and advice offered has been to use a 3m matt film product or remove the glass from the front. Is anyone actually using either of those 2 methods successfully with their iMac? The 3m matt film sounds like it might be awkward to fit without airbubbles etc and might affect sharpness/colour etc Removing the glass from the front could make the screen vulnerable when using things like calibrator devices that need to sit on the screen to work, I don't care what it looks like BTW
Power and features wise the i7 iMac is all the computer I need but need a matt screen is no good for me. I will splurge on a macpro and monitor but its just more than I need and so would prefer the saving
OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Blank Screen After Using Kapersky Flashback Removal Tool
Apr 11, 2012A friend used the Kapersky Flashbackcheck.com site to check her MacBook running OS 10.5.8. The UID check indicated her computer was infected so she told me she downloaded and ran the first option that she presumes was the Flashback Removal software. After running it and restarting her computer the screen was blank. There wasnt even a menu bar. However the Skype login popped up and that ˜suddenly made a menu bar appear giving her access to the normal Skype menus, Apple Menu, spotlight etc. A bit of rummaging around indicates that all her files are still there it is just that the desktop doesnt launch (Finder problem maybe?) after multiple restarts.
I won't be able to actually get the computer for a week as she is a student and out of town presently.

Jan 20, 2008As a full-time professional photographer, I use 20" iMac Intel 2GHz Core Duo machines (the original Intel iMacs), with the matte screens and maxed out with 2 gb of ram for Photoshop editing daily (CS3). I have found that the matte screens are awesome for imaging work... very accurate colors, no perceptible undesireable variation in color or brightness at different viewing angles. I've been verrry happy with these iMacs for production in my portrait photography studio.
NOW... recently I've considered upgrading one of my original 20" Intel iMacs to a current production 24" iMac for the larger screen area, 4 GB ram capability, and faster processor (filter processing!!!), but have been hesitant because of all the bad press I've read about using the glossy screens for professional color work. Complaints I've seen refer to distracting reflections of room/ambient lighting, a false, over-exagerated color saturation, un-even color/brightness across the full area of the display, light leaks, and dead pixels. What has happened to our beloved iMac?
If these criticisms are valid, I think Apple made a big mistake going from matte to glossy screens with the iMacs. I understand that Apple targets iMacs as just consumer machines... but the fact remains that a LOT of professional imaging people have chosen matte screen iMacs for professional work and the older matte screens were perfect for that.

Jan 10, 2011this might sound a bit strange but I hope someone on here may be able to help me, I've placed my 2007 MacBook Pro for sale but I've recently had enquiries from a buyer with a question that I can't answer in that of whether the screen is Glossy or Matte. Now I never realised there were two options thinking it was a more recent development in the product line but after some research I discovered that it was an option when the machine was purchased. The only problem is that I brought it second hand and no information was included to enable me to work out this detail, so is there a visual analysis I could perform or are there any images I could post so that people would be able to work out which type of screen I have?
The model of MBP is the Mid/Late 2007, Merom Based 17" MacBook Pro with the Hi-Res Screen outputting at 1900 x 1200.
