I live in Canada, and no stores seem to sell any configuration that includes this upgrade. I'm more comfortable purchasing my laptop from a store than the online Apple Store. Is this true for locations in the states as well? I would like to get my MBP sometime in the next month or so, is it looking like I'll have to purchase it online?
View 20 RepliesSo I got my first laptop and decided to splurge and got a mac. Now it's great, works great, took me a while to get used to the OS but love my mac now. I use it predominantly for surfing and just basic but am also doing filmmaking. My friend has a macbook pro with 4gb ram and better proccessor, and we used that for film editing, but want to make upgrade mine into one as well (filmmaking laptop). I also may want to use it for gaming (starcraft), photoshop and just a whole bunch of apps and programs. Should I upgrade the ram, get it upgraded for me (get someone to put in the ram) should I even buy ram, is there anything I can do to make a faster processor? Also, my internet is kinda slow, anything I can do to speed it up? Finally, my mac sometimes lags when there's a lot off apps open so I was thinking of upgrading it. I don't have much of a budget (probably not even a 100) so I need something cheap, but don't want shotty second hand stuff. How much can I add, and what else can I do? On another note, Ive been using firefox as my default browser and have added a whole bunch off addons, any other programs I should get for firefox OR any programs I should get for my mac?

Just discovered a scratch (I think) on my 15" MBP; it's hi-res anti-glare. Now every time I use the laptop my eyes instantly land on this tiny scratch. This is my first screen to get scratched.

Question is: high res screen or not? I'm getting a BTO so store-purchase is out of question anyways. I do graphics editing, but not heavy. Mostly i'm interested in the screen to view nicer photos (raw images), movies, etc.

View 22 Replies View RelatedI am looking to pick up a 15" macbook pro and since I will be using it for coding (in both OSX and Win7) i am looking at the high res screen.
However I also want to use the machine for gaming in Windows 7 and in some cases I will probably need to lower the resoultion to get better framerates. Which resolutions are supported on this screen? I cannot find any documention on this. Also are all modes supported in Windows and does for example 1280x800 still look somewhat ok on the high res screen?
Anyone with the high res 15" model care to answer?
I've noticed on my MacBook Pro (late 2013 with retina, 13", 2,4GHz i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB Ram) that when I run the display on low brightness, there is a high pitch noise coming from the screen (inverter problem)? It seems as it disappears when adjusting to either a high brightness or turning it to zero.

I'm seriously considering ordering one of the brand new 27" iMac's, with the 2.8 GHz i7 Processor and 8GB (4x2GB) of RAM. The only thing I'm having trouble deciding about is getting either the standard 1TB Hard Drive or the 2TB Hard Drive for a little over $200. Since the Hard Drive can't exactly be replaced easily, I'm wondering if it would be better to invest in the 2TB upgrade.

The computer works fine after a recent mother board change but I'm concerned about a future GPU failure. Applecare expires in June 2010. I was waiting for the refresh before buying and was wondering if I should go with the refurb 2.66GHZ MBP or a new i5 model. My priority is an anti glare screen and I notice that I would need to buy a high resolution screen in order to get that option on the new models. I'm not a power user and don't play games. My concern on the new model is that the text will be too small. How does the processing power compare on these two models and is the high resolution screen still readable for less than perfect eyes?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMacbook Pro 17" Text size issue with High Resolution screen. Just got a Macbook Pro 17 that I love except for one thing - text size on many programs. I understand the reason for it and I did not want a 15 inch as I tend to work with multiple programs at once. I am not tied to an office so that rules out buying an external screen, So I have been trying to find solutions that makes working with in different programs less of a strain on my eyes. Here are some of the workarounds I have found to programs I use and programs that I have had no luck with. And please it is not a problem with eyesight as this seems to be a common problem for many owners. I like to sit well back from my screen not 2 inches away! Address Book Set the font size to large in preferences
Mail. This is the big one. It is easy to set the default font to a larger size and that helps with incoming mail. Or you can add a small/larger button with the customize toolbar option but there is no fix for outgoing mail. I write a lot of mail so by the end of the day I am squinting and I do not want to send all my mail in jumbo text. Here is the only fix that I found that I like. Whenever my screen is not turned up to the maximum brightness, a really high pitched sound is emitted from the laptop. If you've ever heard the "mosquito ringtone", that's basically what it sounds like. Really odd. It's definitely got something to do with the screen brightness, and I basically can't use my laptop at medium brightness because the sound drives me a little nuts. Turning the brightness to the lowest setting makes the sound less intense, but it's still audible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to buy a 17" matt MBP 2010. So far I've used a few laptops which I carry in a backpack (Lowepro Computekker Plus AW) together with cameras and lenses. Each one but the last one - Lenovo Thinkpad - had the same problem; beacause there is high pressure on the computer (glass weights over 12kgs), the keyboard keys left traces on he screen surface - not just dust - the plastic from keys was on the screen for good. The Lenovo is the firsts one not affected by that.
Can anyone who uses this MBP 17" matt 2010 (and treats it as bad as me) tell me how it looks in this case?
If you connect say a 13inch macbook to a 19inch monitor using the closed clamshell mode, will the picture quality on the monitor be like a stretched out version of the 13inch screen? I.e. poor, or does the macbook just act like a desktop computer and allow high quality viewing.

View 7 Replies View RelatedToday while working with an InDesign document it crashed and I had to reboot the hard way. After starting up again the colors of my screen was all twisted and strange. It's like a very high contrast/bad resolution. Except for the screen-issue the machine works fine. I tried changing setting in preferences/display (no. of colors, resolution and color profiles) didn't work. I then tried resetting the PRAM, which didn't have any effect either. I tried creating a new user and logging into the account - and it looked fine? It's probably just a pref-file that need rebuilding or the like, but I have no clue as to where that might be. I work on a G5 PowerMac with Tiger on it.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI just bought and received a new 21.5'' iMac and love it but the screen is making a high pitched noise, similar to a dog whistle. It's that sound that isn't loud but pierces through your brain. And the brighter the backlight is, the louder is gets. I love this machine but I don't think it should be doing this and it bothers the heck out of me. I called Apple and all they said was to bring it to the Genius Bar.
