MacBook :: Update Operating System To Snow Leopard / Disk Is Not Reading In Disk Drive

Jun 4, 2014

I have an old Macbook via 2007 and I'm trying to update my operating system (currently OS 10.5.8) to Snow Leopard, but the disk is not reading in the disk drive. And unfortunately, Snow Leopard is only on a DVD, it can't be downloaded.I figure I have 2 choices:

1) take it in and spend $49 to have them do diagnostics and then tell me they probably need to replace the superdrive

2) I could buy an external optical drive. But I would need to know which one would be compatable with my old *** Macbook.

Can I upgrade my ibook 10.2.8 OS X to a higher version? If so how? If not, better to get a new computer? I was trying to install a broadband modem but requires OS of 10.3 or higher.

I'm not computer savvy but can understand enough to get by, as long as it's plain English. I want to be able to use my laptop to access the internet, anywhere & anytime.

OS X :: Upgrade An Operating System - Special Files To Back Up Outside Of Itunes

Mar 29, 2010

I'm going out this week to buy Snow Leopard and I've never in my life upgraded an operating system before because usually by the time a new OS comes out I need a new computer anyway. However, that was when I was a Windows user. Now, I'm using a Macbook Pro that I've had since December of 2006 and it's still running like a champ, but I would like to have all the latest features that come with Snow Leopard. My questions are as follows:Is there anything special I need to do prior to installing the new OS? Should I do a clean install? If so, are there any special files I should back up outside of my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and my documents?

Is my Snow Leopard disk now liberated to make the pre-Lion upgrade on the second computer, since it is no longer operating on the first one? All of the hardware meets the upgrade requirements.

Software :: Safari Won't Launch On My MacBook - Leopard Operating System

Jan 3, 2009

I have a MacBook; purchased in Oct. 2006. All has been working fine until yesterday. Safari suddenly shut down and when I tried to relaunch, the icon on the toolbar jumps a couple of times (teasing me as if he is going to launch) and then doesn't open. I did get it to "almost" launch a couple of times and it never opened my home page. It instead, within seconds, it shut down and I got the error message that the application suddenly quit but that my operating system wasn't affected, etc. All of my Office applications work fine but Safari will just not launch..

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Reinstall System Because Disk Is Used By Time Machine

Mar 7, 2012

My MBPro is getting cranky in a number of ways that indicate a reinstall of Snow Leopard is in order. After the requisite disk first aid check I attempted to run the installer only to get a dialog box telling me that the system cannot be installed because this disk is used by time machine.  The MacBook disk is of course a source for back ups but not a back up drive.  Even after restarting and explicitly turning off Time machine I get the same results. What do I need to set to allow the installer to run. The installer cd is a stand alone snow leopard install cd, not a machine specific cd.

I ran a disk check on my MacBook Pro which told me to run disk repair. Since this was my boot HD, I took out my Installation DVD, put it into the running system and started the installation file then selected that I wanted to reboot and start utilities. The system then rebooted, the "chime" came, and then, silence, gray screen with apple logo, nothing is happening. What do I need to do, to get further and repair my hard disk?
