I would like to keep all of the applications that are on her computer, as well as save all of the files (just in case), while still making it my own password, etc. I have a 1tb external hard drive with plenty of space but no original intall cd. What do I do?

I recently bought a 2nd hand Macbook Air and it already had Lion installed. It didn't come with the Lion USB so I can't do a reinstall if I wanted. Now when I sign in to the App Store and try to download iPhoto or Garageband, I can't. It says something about my profile not being allowed to download it as the download is attached to another account, presumably the previous owner.So how am I able to download iPhoto? I don't mind paying for it, but it still won't let me as the only option I get is "Download".

I want to remove a movie from my iTunes library to free up the 1GB of space, but I purchased it and do not want to loose the ability to copy it back to watch it again. That is, I'd like to copy it to an archive disk, but am afraid that I might get locked out of it forever, etc. Does anyone know how this can/does work? Is there protection, or other files I need to copy with it etc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?

My macbook pro came installed with 4GB of RAM but this is slowly being eaten away. Brand new there was 2.77Gb available. Yesterday there was 2.4 and today there is 1.43Gb free. ( I know this as I am using free memory) Nothing is running but Finder and now this browser. Without the browser (Safari) I cannot seem to get more than 1.7Gb free. Something seemnd s to be gobbling up about 1Gb in the background this is not visible to Finder/Force quit

I have a TiVo HD (Series 3) that I'm attempting to move movies off to an external HDD as it is filling up and I'd like to keep my old programs. I have Roxio's Toast 8 Titanium and tried a couple times to use the "TiVo Transfer" program but keep running into problems.
The problem that I run into is that the program will only download part of file, not the complete file. I don't know if the problem is with the program or perhaps I have the network set up incorrectly? I have the TiVo connected via ethernet cord to my Airport Extreme and the external HD connected via USB also to the Airport Extreme. I've also tried connecting the TiVo & HDD directly to the MacBook (OSX 10.5.6) with the same results as well as downloading directly to the MacBook's HDD...same thing.
TiVo Transfer "sees" the TiVo fine along with all the video files it just has problems downloading the complete file. I've looked up previous posts relating to TiVo here but most are 3-4 years old and I'm hopeful someone has had some success with moving the movies off the TiVo with another app perhaps that works with a Series 3.
I've been a member here for a few years but mainly kept in the background reading about news and other interesting things like mods and discussions.
A few months back I bought a 15 inch 2.4 MBP, the most recent model as far as I'm aware, from the refurb store in the UK and after a few troublesome experiences ( they delivered an iPad to me the first time) I finally got my computer. Ever since, there have been a few problems.
First my Logic board died, handed it in and got it fixed.
Second the Keyboard backlighting wouldn't work, same thing, handed it in and got it fixed.
Now it seems that my MBP can't hold the battery charge when the computer is turned off, which to me seems very strange as it holds the charge perfectly well, 5+ hours although I've never timed it, during normal use.
I recently installed and mce optibay for extra storage since I don't really need the superdrive and it works great. Could this by any chance have anything to do with the drain?
So to summarize my MBp can't hold the charge when computer is turned off but works fine when its on. I have an extra HDD installed where the superdrive used to be via mce optibay and everything else works fine.
I've been noticing quite a difference in the temperatures of the two so just now I tried something. Running 4 threads of yes > /dev/null for 10 minutes now, I have a CPU temp of 202F and a CPU Heatsink temp of 128F. Thats a difference of 74F now either the heatsink is losing 74F faster than it can build it or something is wrong with the transfer between the two.

I just got a new one because my old one stopped responding to the left button. Now it seems like every time I use the mba (also super cool) I have some kind of problem. Also the mba has frozen a number of times which never (or extremely rarely) happened with my MBPro and G4. I'm wondering if they've introduce a glitch into bluetooth.

Its not the slightly uneven lighting, not the 3 hours charge nor the 3:30 battery life I get constantly, nor the 6200 RPM fan. When I charge to 100% and let it sleep for 12 hours, I lose about 20% of the charge. Yesterday I was at around 25% and when I opened it this evening, 24hrs later, there was nothing left. If I leave the macbook air closed, I think that the battery would reach 0% after 3 days. This is not normal and some kind of leak.

It unplugged by accident and went to 99% so I left it unplugged but literally less then maybe 7 minutes my battery is already reading down to 92%. Brightness on screen is set all the way up, if that has anything to do with it.

What is making me paranoid is that I use tracking software Prey on my own MBP and now how can I be sure that the new one hasn't got tracking software installed for opposite reason (to steal it and sell again)?I know it might sound stupid, but I like to be prepared for the worst. So should I format the drive and install Lion again? What would you do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just left my macbook into the Apple store Belfast after it has burnt my hand yet again the original time this occured they replaced the charger and the part the charger connects to along with the casing and logicboard it still seemed to run rather warm with minimal use on occasion but being a light user i just hoped it would get better unil recently it happaned again.I phoned AppleCare and sent them pictures of the two times where you could clearly see the outline of the charger burned into my hand they told me to bring it to the Apple store. The genius at the store informed me that they will need to keep it for a while in order to run some diagnostic test on the device. I beleive that the test will come back negitive as it can be tempermental I was just wondering what the likelyhood of Apple exchange it for a new one.

When I added 2 gmail accounts to my new macbook air. The email program download thousands of emails and now I am getting notifications non stop on the top right hand corner from years ago it is non stop notification for the emails from like 2007 really old emails. why it is notifying me of old emails I know it is new just downloaded in the program but it should only notify me of recent emails shouldn't it?

I am trying to uninstall Virex 7.5. I have got the Terminal uninstall command which opens Terminal. So far, so good. However, Terminal is asking me for my admin password but it's not allowing me to enter it. The cursor is not blinking it's just a solid black oblong - just bl**dy sitting there! Absolutely no response to any key except the enter key - then terminal helpfully says, 'Sorry, try again' What's going on? I just wanna get rid of Virex!!!
