Thinking to upgrade my MacBook 13" HDD with an SSD, if i can find on the market, and to use the existing HDD as external back up if possible, dont know what extra piece I have to buy to connect it externatlly. Please let me know if it is possible this new alternative, my previous plan was to buy an external WD HDD.

It has the stock 4 gb of ram, in the form of 2x 2gb of 1066 ddr3 ram.
I saw some ram from OCZ at a very good price, the OCZ3M13334G.
It is a 4gb dimm, but it is rated at 1333 ddr3.
I can get 2 of these, making 8gb for 150 euros, wich I think is a good price.
The question is if it will work good on my macbook, being 1333mhz?
I have a mid-2010 15'' MBP and I was considering upgrading the hard-drive to SSD. Wanted to see if the process is fairly simple and recommended SSD drives which are popular and of course fast.

1. How big can I go? I'm looking at a 500 GB HD from newegg.
2. 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM? I've heard that 7200 RPM can eat up more battery power faster, and I'd like to avoid that. Is the performance boost worth it?
I have OS X version 10.6.8 and I would like to upgrade it to 10.9.5, but I am unable to upgrade .

I have OS X.5.8; I bought OSX Snow Leopardabout two years ago, but never installed. I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard at long last (and maybe to Lion). But when I put the Snow Leopard disk in, I can hear my disk drive trying and trying, and then it just spits it out. I know disk drive works. & I bought the disk from an Apple store. Is the disk bad - or is it that my MacBook can't be upgraded to Snow Leopard?
View 14 Replies View RelatedLast week my hard drive broke (with Snow Leopard) and I brought my macbook pro to an Apple Store, the HD was totally broken and they couldn't restore any data. They installed a new hard drive with Lion, when I got home I restored my data with Time Machine, but now Safari and VLC aren't responding, Safari opens but that's it and VLC doesn't even opens. Also the CPU of VLC and Webprocess gets to 100 %.

So I got my first laptop and decided to splurge and got a mac. Now it's great, works great, took me a while to get used to the OS but love my mac now. I use it predominantly for surfing and just basic but am also doing filmmaking. My friend has a macbook pro with 4gb ram and better proccessor, and we used that for film editing, but want to make upgrade mine into one as well (filmmaking laptop). I also may want to use it for gaming (starcraft), photoshop and just a whole bunch of apps and programs. Should I upgrade the ram, get it upgraded for me (get someone to put in the ram) should I even buy ram, is there anything I can do to make a faster processor? Also, my internet is kinda slow, anything I can do to speed it up? Finally, my mac sometimes lags when there's a lot off apps open so I was thinking of upgrading it. I don't have much of a budget (probably not even a 100) so I need something cheap, but don't want shotty second hand stuff. How much can I add, and what else can I do? On another note, Ive been using firefox as my default browser and have added a whole bunch off addons, any other programs I should get for firefox OR any programs I should get for my mac?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been using the new MBP 2010 17" model for about 10 days. It happened three times that garbages appeared on the screen for about 0.5 seconds. Twice under Mac OS and once under Boot Camp Windows Vista. Anybody else has similar problem? I saw those things when I was using the MBP (with the infamous 8600M GT) three years ago.

Just got friendly, so I call her 'friend') suggested me 100$ for 4GB upgrade. She told me that it's not possible to upgrade the RAM after the payment, but she is able to do it for me.
I'm always paranoid wether the Apple employees will give me the 'older' RAMs or 'used' ones. Should I be? or just trust the employee who will swap it for me.
If I have a choice, I would like to install the new RAM for myself.
I just recently bought a new Macbook Pro 17" Unibody. It currently has 4GBs of RAM and I would like to upgrade to 8GBs. Before, I had a Macbook Pro 15" ( Old version, 2008 Penryn Version ), and I currently have 6 GBs of RAM inside ( the max, 4 GB + 2 GB ) I also have another spare 2 GB chip and 2 1GB chips for my old Macbook Pro. Is there a certain limitation I can go up or can I go has high as I want? Because I was hoping to get a 250GB which is the perfect amount.
The reason I ask this is because I heard from someone that there is a limitation.
How does it look when doing so, if the resolution is higher than the native. For example, if the monitor resolution is 1650x1050.

I've tried all the usual tricks that come up on google, holding eject/trackpad on start up, eject in commands/itunes and the thin piece of card under/over the disc but nothing has worked.
When holding eject it sounds like the disc hits something as it tries to eject but due to the felt I can't see inside to see what it is?
My keyboard backlight isn't working... whenever I try to turn it up it gives a circle with a line through it. I have read that there is an ambient light sensor that turns off the keyboard backlight when it is too bright, however that has NEVER happened before and I have used it in direct sunlight and the backlight still obviously works. It's not even bright right now but it won't work. This is very frustrating, there should be no sensor that turns it off it should be the brightness I tell it to be.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Leopard from Tiger, and am now having a problem reading certain CD-ROMs. Each month, I receive a CD from a guitar instruction site. When I was using Tiger, I had no problems reading any of these CDs, but, since the upgrade, I've become unable to open the most recent few. They aren't even recognized by the computer, and are ejected automatically, although they work perfectly on two other Macs running the same version of Leopard. Older CDs from the same company still play fine. My drive is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-857D.

(it wasn't a mac version) Now that i've upgraded to a new Mac Pro 4,1 it has a GT120 from nvidia. I need to either get the GeForce 7800 or the GTX260 working. I've been researching and reading for almost 2 weeks now. I've tried everything I've seen and have had to reload this poor mac twice now. If all the drivers are built in, why does it only see the card as "Display" in the system profiler?
View 15 Replies View Relatedi have had a 13" Macbook pro for around a year now, and i never really noticed that it didnt have a backlight on the keyboard until my mom bought a 17" one (what a biter, amirite?) and it had the awesome backlight. I've tried researching this and i've downloaded labtick and it doesn't work.
Edit: I've also never spilled anything on the keyboard or anywhere. It's been like this since purchase
The backlight still lights up behind the keyboard but only brightly in a V shape in the middle of the keyboard, the rest of it is very dim.
This happened to me a while back and I just got the laptop back the other day. They had put in a new keyboard (along with a new hard drive and optical drive - but those are another story).
Just now, my backlight came on since I turned off the room's main light and turned on a small lamp and lo and behold...the backlight is messed up again! Same as it was before, I know for a fact it was working earlier today.
All I've done is change the ram and use migration assistant to get a couple things over. I'm not sure how I could have damaged the light by taking out the 3 screws for the ram door...I didn't put barely any pressure on them. I'm not sure if either of those two things caused it but I'm shocked.
Now I have to give up my computer again. Nearest apple store is over an hour, it was 3 weeks last time I gave my computer up (gave it to school's IT crew, who forwards it to apple - but I get a loaner this way).
I've tried Windows Vista and 7 on SL using VMware Fusion, and both have told me that my score was 1.0 because of the graphic card.
Is there any way to trick the windows, or it is really the graphic card is not advanced enough on the MBP?
So I gave my aunt my old core duo MBP as she only surfs the web with it and it is basically useless to me. She had a iPhone 3Gs and broke it, now upgraded to the iPhone 4. I went to sync her iTunes with it and it said it requires OS X 10.5.8 which is leopard and the computer is still on 10.4.11. Is the only way to sync her phone with all of her old data thats on her iTunes to pay for leopard or snow leopard, or whats the protocol here?

so i havent used my ibook in awhile, so i ran all of my system updates (had to do it like 3 times...). i then opened my limewire, and it asked if i wanted to update, i was on a roll so why not?
i updated, restarted my computer and now when i try to open it it says
"this application requires java 1.6 or later, but only the following java versions are installed:1.5.0, 1.4.2, 1.3.1, 1.5, 1.3, 1.4. updating to a newer version of mac os x may resolve this."
i know i can update os x, but that will cost me $129!
is there anyway i can uninstall this limewire update?

I had not printed or scanned anything since then, but today I needed to do both, and they don't work. I think it has something to do with the upgrade because they were working just fine before that.
The printer is an Epson Stylus 777i
The Scanner is an Epson Perfection 640U
What could have changed, and how can I get my Mac and peripherals to work together again?
