so i havent used my ibook in awhile, so i ran all of my system updates (had to do it like 3 times...). i then opened my limewire, and it asked if i wanted to update, i was on a roll so why not?
i updated, restarted my computer and now when i try to open it it says
"this application requires java 1.6 or later, but only the following java versions are installed:1.5.0, 1.4.2, 1.3.1, 1.5, 1.3, 1.4. updating to a newer version of mac os x may resolve this."
i know i can update os x, but that will cost me $129!
is there anyway i can uninstall this limewire update?
I recently bought a Power Mac G5 and wanted to update my limewire after reading a review on cnet. However, I found that the new version of limewire won't work due to the incompatibility of the Java That my mac is running-on my 10.5.8 is there a fix for this problem that I, as a new Mac user can try or is it just too technical a problem for me to deal with on my own?
I don't use limewire but this guy at the Apple store told me that its very bad for macs. He said to imagine a mac like a spider web and limewire like a stick messing it all up (Interesting metaphor huh? He looked just like Buddah too) So does anybody know how Limewire is bad for a mac?
So I just decided to install Limewire today. When I installed the newest version I couldn't use it because it required Java 1.6. I learned on the internet that the only way to get around this was to buy Mac Leopard and I'm not about to do that for Limewire. So I thought I would take another route and try to install an older version of Limewire and get around not having Java 1.6 that way. I downloaded Limewire 4.18.8 from this web page: [UR:] . When I open the installer on the computer, I click "Continue' on the first page, I choose to install the application on my hard drive, I get to the Install page, and click "Install." It then tells me: "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install."
I'm a new Mac user (PowerBook G4) and i've downloaded LimeWire 3 times now and it doesn't want to work. I get the disk image, downloaded it, got the LimeWire icon, but when I click on the icon it bounces 2 or 3 times then disappear.
my pc got absolutely because of limewire and all the stuff I downloaded. so will this happen if I download it onto my mac or is the virus protection good enough so I don't have to worry about it?
i have power mac 4 os x 10.3.9 was running ok,then suddenly limewire just bounces a couple times on dock and it wont start,i unistalled it from aplications reinstalled it,tried difrent old versions and still doing same thing a ran the 10.3.9 update for java issues on mac support did not help either ,it says its installed but the icon wont open,.
So my Macbook Pro is coming and it's a 15in Core Duo 2.16Ghz with 2 cores. It's already up to 2GB of Ram which seems to be the max. But the HDD is only 100GB. Is there a certain limitation I can go up or can I go has high as I want? Because I was hoping to get a 250GB which is the perfect amount.
The reason I ask this is because I heard from someone that there is a limitation.
How do i erase limewire off of my computer.I downloaded the site for music but dont use any more and want that space back on hard drive. Can someone give me some instruction to do this?
5/24/08 Mac Mini G4 1.42 Processor 512MB Memory 80 GB Hard Drive Platform 10.4 LimeWire will not load. She was using program and then it stopped loading. Her solution was to download LimeWire again and install. No luck with that. Also can not get other P2P filesharing programs to load after download and install.
Okay I'm thinking that my iMac 20" (a1224) has a virus after I started playing with Limewire...When I press the power button the only thing I receive is the Apple logo and the spinner below it as if something is about to happen but it never does. I even let it sit overnite hoping for something and no results. I purchased the computer from some random so there is no disc.
I recently switched from a PC to Mac. Previously my Limewire pro downloads would open directly in itunes. Now, my Limewire downloads only play in the Limewire file.
I have parallel for windows also on my mac. Limewire is installed on the windows XP os.
What needs to be done to have it so my songs open up and are played by itunes?
I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger, and am now having a problem reading certain CD-ROMs. Each month, I receive a CD from a guitar instruction site. When I was using Tiger, I had no problems reading any of these CDs, but, since the upgrade, I've become unable to open the most recent few. They aren't even recognized by the computer, and are ejected automatically, although they work perfectly on two other Macs running the same version of Leopard. Older CDs from the same company still play fine. My drive is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-857D.
Originally had a Mac Pro 2006 with a nvidia 7300. I added a 7800 gtx which worked fine with no updates or drivers needed. (it wasn't a mac version) Now that i've upgraded to a new Mac Pro 4,1 it has a GT120 from nvidia. I need to either get the GeForce 7800 or the GTX260 working. I've been researching and reading for almost 2 weeks now. I've tried everything I've seen and have had to reload this poor mac twice now. If all the drivers are built in, why does it only see the card as "Display" in the system profiler?
I know that Limewire is bad all around, but isn't that just on PC's? They can't give macs viruses, can they? If they do what are some other alternatives to Limewire?
I just read at a Wiki Limewire entry that in a small sampling, thirty percent of downloaded files had malware. Do you feel this is true? I've used it quite a bit in the past. Is there a way to purge my Mac of any malware, without erasing the entire drive?
I went to download the new limewire 5 version, downloaded and installed it fine but when i go to launch it says i have JAVA 1.5 and need 1.6. so i got to Java's website and it says to just run apple software update i run that and it says im completely updated. Did they not make a Java update for Power PC macs? did limewire decide to phase out all non intel macs? anyone used the new limewire 5?
My macbook pro crashed and I upgraded to leopard at the genius bar. My limewire will not work now. I tried installing the java update both via my computer and the one that was posted up on this forum by Luke responding to KAtie but it won't let me install it with the os version I have. I can install the program but then the icon bounces and disappears. Any suggestions? I love limewire and am dying without it.
So I gave my aunt my old core duo MBP as she only surfs the web with it and it is basically useless to me. She had a iPhone 3Gs and broke it, now upgraded to the iPhone 4. I went to sync her iTunes with it and it said it requires OS X 10.5.8 which is leopard and the computer is still on 10.4.11. Is the only way to sync her phone with all of her old data thats on her iTunes to pay for leopard or snow leopard, or whats the protocol here?
